Rings are a convenient way to contain a spell and wear it without bringing too much attention to it. All special rings originated as normal jewelry that a witch had to place a spell on. So anytime you see a Vampire walking around in daylight, they obtained a Daylight ring, either because they were close with a Witch, or they obtained it indirectly. This doesn't mean all rings have the same purpose, according to what we saw Isobel say here, Alaric's ring is to 'ward off what goes bump in the night', so maybe keeps him safe from dying to supernatural things? Idk how that would work since he was just staked here, he wasn't bitten or anything... does the wooden stake count as supernatural?... like if he got shot with a bullet but a vampire pulled the trigger... would he come back? *shrug* no clue. But yeah, different types of rings

The door could always be opened. But Grams used up her energy to seal the tomb, linking it to herself. When she died, the spell died with her and the tomb opened. Either that or they only managed to close the door and not seal the tomb. It is never explained, but it would be one or the other. Supernatural protection jewelry is made from different things depending on what protection you need. They are made by witches. A vampire daylight ring uses lapis lazuli, so they are always blue. Don't know what the protection from death by a supernatural being stone is, but again would need to be made by a witch. Not all witches can make the rings as Lexi didn't have one despite being friends with Bree. I suspect it is because the spell is a closely guarded secret. Great reaction, looking forward to the next one.

I don't understand why Elena was mad at Damon. It's not like he purposely set out to kill her mother to upset her. Her mother doesn't even want anything to do with her and yet she is chasing her down after she was told Isobel doesn't want to be found. That doesn't sound like a good idea. What does she want? Her to play mother? As far as Stefan treating Damon like he does, remember they have about a 150 years of history between them.

For this specific thing. For a mother Elena doesn’t even know and who just compelled a man to die after having him tell her she don’t want to be bothered with her. Elena angry cause she thought she’d get a new mother and she thinks Damon took that from her. No, Isobel took herself from Elena way before Damon showed up. Ric was actively in a relationship with Isobel. I understand his anger. Mind you like Damon said, he’d figured it out. So he was just going after Damon cause he was mad his wife didn’t want him anymore and she didn’t tell him she wanted to leave him and be a vampire. She could have stayed or at least wrote a letter or called. Is it Damon’s fault she wanted to be a vampire? He was losing Isobel before Damon was even in the picture. There are plenty of reasons to not like Damon but I don’t feel this one is on him.

Elana's statement was super stupid. I get she's upset finding out that Damon killed her birth mother, but saying that she thought he had changed, implying that bad thing he did years in the past proves that he did or could not have changed in the present.
