WarRaven

Spike is my favorite character in the Buffyverse. 🤗

Paul Gibson

Spike is a great character. Don't get hung up on the turning out the lights I think it's just a badly executed its home time scene lol

Catherine Thurmond

You just met two of my favorite characters. I'm so glad you like them and your reaction to this episode was what I was hoping for. I loved how almost giddy you were about The Annoying One.💜

I think it was just a bad plot device for camera blocking, so the focus was on the windows.

FernWithy

Excellent reaction to one of the classics! They were going to have the Annoying One all year, but, thanks to a wonderfully fortunate growth spurt, they couldn't keep him on (the undead don't get any taller). Yay for growth spurts!

In my opinion this is the episode that turns the show from a good one into a great one.

Ari is my Cat

Lot of good episodes in this season. Lie To Me is my favorite of the first half of the season.

One of the best introduction of a character in a show. To quote Spike, from now on we’re gonna have a little less rituals and a little more fun around here. Did you notice the parallel between Buffy and Spike, both being respectfully unorthodox slayer and vampire. You get the point narratively of course, but also visually with the little details like the identical red smudged line (blood for Spike, paint for Buffy) on the left cheek.

So good, wow thank goodness for the growth spurt. Got rid of annoying and brought in a cool fun villian I hope

GeekedOutNation

I look forward to the fun. Didnt notice till you just mentioned it. But you are right it is an interesting parallel.

Yaaay! Squuee! Woohoo! Love this episode so fucking much, and so happy that you loved it so much too :D. Great reaction really enjoyed it. Yup, Spike is my favourite character too, such a great villain with such a brilliant entry. ( At this point in the show my other favourites are Buffy, Wlllow and Giles) I really love Drusilla too , and I'm so pleased that you did too. A couple of reactors have not been so keen on her, a bit freaked out (or even derogatory cos they don't get her) - about her gothic eccentric weirdness. I LOVE Drusilla's gothic eccentric weirdness. Also, dunno if you noticed this, cos there's so much going on in this ep - Drusilla spoke about 'seeing things' and seeming to know what's going on. I really like the dynamic between Spike and Dru. Some twisted dark romance going on there. Interesting to see two evil vamps in love. And also, giving Spike layers straight away - he's so badass, but so tender, considerate and concerned with Drusilla. Already he's not a one note villain. Also, some interesting history between Spike & Angel eh? Spike calls him his sire, and his Yoda. Steven: " Spike is better than Angel" :D :D :D Spike dusting The Annoying One is just THE BEST and I love the way he does it too. Your reaction to that is fantastic :D Some interesting observations about Snyder, whether the creep knows anything. The thing with the lights though, I agree with the comments above - BUT it was a bit poorly executed, so I can see why you came up with that idea, an interesting interpretation. I don't think that when the teacher was pulled out of the window, and Snyder just stood and stared a moment , is bad execution - people freeze up and go into shock when they see freaky scary murder stuff happening. I love Joyce being badass with the axe " You get the hell away from my daughter" ! :D It always bugs me a bit when Spike just runs off then too. What they are trying to go for I reckon, is that Spike wants to live to fight another day - he chooses the moment when the odds are in his favour, not against him. When it comes to you saying he can take on them both - well, a slayer is a really tough opponent, you don't really want anyone else around bashing you on the head while you get back to fighting, and if Spike tries to knock out the mom first - well, high risk of it not working with Buffy right there. But, I feel they way they did it wasn't quite right, just needed a bit more of a feeling that Spike was cornered and making a strategic retreat rather than 'running away'. This episode gets a 9 from me, though I love our 2 new characters so much, I might sometimes give it a 9.5. For me, and a lot of the fans, this is where the show starts to get really good - though there are a couple of season 1 type clunkers in this season too.

I think Snyder was turning off the lights because the event was supposed to be over....but yeah it didn't work because everyone was still standing around. No one was heading toward the door to leave or anything so it comes off as an odd moment. And I have to give this ep a 10 despite its few flaws because this episode gave the world Spike, and that is a great gift.

Love that you really like this episode, Spike and Dru are my fav villains. Love their relationship. And Spike It's sooo cool...<3 Love him.

I watching it after you've reached S5, and it's funny how you ask if Spike is attracted to Buffy and tada... he figured out too ^^.
