love the reactions dope stuff. As for luffy's backstory, I won't say what happens but all Im gonna say is when you get to it, it is really sad. The reason why they don't get into it now is because one of the future arcs it will be shown and executed along with the arc beautifully. They only showed the shanks part of his backstory to give the viewer in the first part of the show "Luffy's purpose and motivation". But trust me the shanks flashback of luffy's backstory is not all of luffy's backstory.

Get used to the comedic moments happening. Oda hates keeping a serious tone. There will always be comedy in someway. Also oda doesn't care about showing ugly(funny faces) he tries to make it realistic. No one looks cool while crying.

Assimilater

Ya, early one piece Luffy's character is portrayed a little rough around the edges. It's a little rougher in the dub I think, but it's kind of the same. I have come to see it as that Luffy doesn't care about people's past because he cares about who they are now and the present. Sometimes it comes off annoying and inconsiderate, but there will be times where you see a simple beauty in it.

Cheddah Slammer

Actually this episode is censored, in the manga Bellemere gets shot in the head which the Anime makers felt was too graphic. Also this version directly went out on Tv in Japan, and the transitions with the posters in the middle are were they place a commercial break. When the Anime came over here, forkids got it and heavily censored it, Bellemere doesn't get shot, Arlong is pointing at her, and says " I'm going to put you in a dungeon", they also screw up the plot this way, as Bellemere is never seen again despite being presumably alive.
