Yesterday was full of difficulties once again. The sleeve pattern we though we had, we did not have. We drafted 3 sleeves, none of which we liked the fit or shape of. After hitting a wall and taking a break for a bit, we went back into the studio and I began draping a new sleeve. We finally came up with something we both liked.

We also began working on the center panels of the bodice. First, we cut a square 3 times the side of the panel, drew 3 horizontal lines on it, and sewed 2 gathering stitches a half an inch apart ag every horizontal line. We gathered the fabric down to about the size of the center panel, careful to pull the threads evenly snd then carefully played with the gathers until they looked straight and even. Then we carefully pressed the gathered square with an iron, only gently pressing down and mostly using the steam. After we had our gathered square ready, we cut out the top section of the panel, interfaced it, and sewed it to the gathered fabric. Then we cut a backing for the center panel out of satin, pinned it to the front of the center panel, and sewed a basting stitched around the edge. The excess fabric was then trimmed off.

Lace scallops were sewn at each horizontal gathering line and at the top of the gathers. The panels are ready to be sewn into the bodice.
