THE PUFF PANTS ARE FINALLY DONE. KIND OF. We still need to baste the panels, sew on the leg bands and waist band, and see in the zippers. But we can finally actually see what the outcome will look like.

We started the day picking out which lace trim we wanted to use on the leg bands. Peach and Daisy have scalloped lace all over their dresses, so we bought quite a bit of scalloped lace. Which the leg bands will hardly be visible, I think they turned out precious. We added elastic to the inside of the pant leg and made the bands about two inches wider than where they will sit on our legs so that we will actually be able to sit down.

Then it was back to panel hell. These were such a good idea visually but such a terrible idea. For Peach's panels, I had to interface all of the velvet because we could only find stretch pink velvet. We also had to use the home made piping from the previous day which was made from stretch fabric as well. There was almost no way to avoid bunching on my panels when attaching the piping. After what felt like a million hours of trial and error, we found this two way seam tape. The tape alone wasn't sticky enough to hold the piping in place while being sewn, but I was able to use it to stick the wonder under to the tape so it would stay in place while being ironed to the velvet. This actually worked.... but we only had so much tape. Eventually I ran out. After more trial and error, we found some wonder under that had a wax paper backing so you could iron it to one piece, peel off the backing, then iron it to the other. This was our final solution. We had to make som extra piping tape after wasting so much on experiment, but eventually all of the piping was adhered to my panels. Then we had to baste every panel, sew the lining to every panel, turn the panels inside out, and iron them.

It took 3 days, but eventually we had all 24 panels between the two of us finished. We pinned the puff pants to some mannequins and began pinning the panels to the waist and leg holes.

I'm so ready to be done with these pants. Who knew they would take up the majority of this trip?
