I've wanted to make a REAL corset for so long but I'veaways been sooooooooo intimidated. Corset making is big boy shit. You have to be exact. Corsets can be harmful if not made correctly, so I've always thought my skill level was too low to attempt something like this. I'm so insanely proud of how this turned out.

To be fair, I did not pattern this from scratch. Toriander_c owns an existing Corset pattern modified to fit her and we are the same size. I used her pattern as a base and constructed my own pattern by moving some of the seams around, cutting off the hip pieces, and extending the front up into a point.

Once I had venti's pattern, I made the lining our of twill which doubled as a mockup. Twill has no stretch so it was a good choice for a lightweight corset lining.

I chose to make the outside of the corset out of pleather and faux suede. To get the gold edges on the center panel, I sewed strips of gold about a quarter of an inch in (plus seam allowance on the sides) folded them over, and then sewed them into the side pieces and binding as normal.

The next step was adding in the boning. This part was probably the scariest. I had to first see channels to the lining for the boning, then cut my steel boning to fit the channels. There is probably a better way to do this and I don't advise anyone else to do this but the way Tori does it and taught me to do it is with a metal rotary blade on a dremel. The sparks were scary!

Once the bones were in, I needed to sew the lining to the shell and seal it all up. I used an awning tool to poke and work holes through both the pleather and twill wide enough to fit eyelets and then hammered them in using an eyelet tool. The last thing I needed to do was sew on the binding, the buttons, the little triangles at the bottom front, and I was done!

As always if my ramblings of a madman don't make sense, plz feel free to ask questions in the comments!!!
