“...and just how is my special little guy today?”

“Well, Ms. Fairbanks, he’s...uhm...he hasn’t been especially cooperative today.”

“No?”

“No, ma’am.  I’m afraid he threw a bit of a tantrum before.”

“Is that so?  And what brought that on?”

“It was in protest of the jar of baby food you left him for lunch. Though, later he would say, and I’m paraphrasing a tiny bit: ‘I don’t want to play along in this stupid game anymore.’”

“Did he say that?  Let me talk to him.”

“Yes, Ms. Fairbanks.  One moment.”

“Y-yes? Hello?”

“Daniel?”

“Miranda... Hi.”

“No, that’s not what you are to call me.”

“M-mommy...”

“Better.  So what seems to be the problem?  I call home to see how things are and Maggie has some very distressing things to say about your behavior.”

“I just...I just don’t know how much longer I can do this, Miranda...”

“Ahem.”

“M-mommy...  I understood that this was our little game in the bedroom.  But I feel like maybe it’s gone on too far.  I mean, you’ve hired a babysitter to care for me while you’re at work, for god’s sake!  She keeps asking to check my diaper...and then the baby food...it’s just...a lot.”

“You don’t have to play along, Daniel.  But I do hope you remember that this was the alternative to me throwing you out of the house after I found all those naughty conversations you were having with other women online.”

“I...I know...and, believe me, I’m very appreciative of the compassion you’ve shown me, Miranda, but...”

“There is no ‘but.’  If I hear that you’ve been misbehaving again, I will not hesitate to drag you to my office and chain you to my desk so my entire staff can see you sucking your thumb while you sit in a diaper.  Do you want that?”

“N-no, Miranda, of course not. But...maybe we could talk about the rules a little bit later, yes? Like...maybe it doesn’t have to be quite like this.”

“Maybe you could also pack up your belongings and find yourself a new home to live in and a new wife to change your pathetic diapers. How does that sound?”

“I...yes...I understand.”

“Then I trust you’ll be on your best behavior then.  Put Maggie back on the phone please.”

“Yes, okay...Mommy.”

“Hi Ms. Fairbanks.”

“Hi Maggie.  I hope I’ve straightened him out for you.”

“I appreciate you talking to him.”

“While I trust that he won’t give you issues for the rest of the day, I feel it's important that we remind him of his place in times like this. After we end the call, could I have you administer an enema on him.”

“Yes, Ms. Fairbanks, I shall. It would be my pleasure.”

“Thank you.  And please be sure to send me photos.  I must be getting back to work now.  I’ll see you tonight.”
