Elsie rest in pieces.

I love this episode, and it's such a human touch to have Nana laugh at the end. Any other sitcom would have had her stay furious. And by the way, gammon is just ham.

Anonymous

Gammon is a salted/cured leg of ham, but sold raw. It's common to have it sliced into steaks, fried & served hot then topped with a fried egg which is what Dave appears to be describing. Or it can be boiled/cooked as a whole to make ham.

Daryl

This is such a killer episode. Hey you can't take it with you. Good job, cuz the vultures 'll start circling soon enough! lol

Anonymous

Liz smith who plays Nanna is magnificent in this episode. Absolutely nailed the milking of Elsie’s death while Simultaneously plotting to pillage her stuff. I know people just like it.

Anonymous

Gammon. Usually served with chips, peas and egg or pineapple.

Anonymous

Bless Liz Smith, she so reminds me of my lovely mum. Every series she's been in she's been hysterical. She was such a great actress. We haven't had the 'circling vulture' problem since my mum passed thank God!, there's only my brother and I left!!

Saul

Never would've thought this would become maybe my favourite show to watch on this channel. Absolutely loving it, and it's getting better and better.

Saul

BTW, when Anthony says 'I'm knackered' and Jim says 'bloody hell how heavy are those Big Issues?', Jim is referring to The Big Issue, which is a charity magazine sold by the homeless. You see homeless people selling it on the street for a quid(probably more by now), and you give 'em a quid and they get a share of the profits. It's quite a good magazine, about lots of different things. Basically Jim was comparing Anthony to a homeless person because Ant's got bugger-all prospects.

Had you seen it before? I always liked it, but watching again its even better. The writing and acting basically has to be perfect for this to work. They really pulled it off.

Anonymous

hahahaha...Nana! Liz Smith played that part brilliantly. The faces she pulls!! her comedy timing is spot on. Nana's a proper Manc too...she gets off her face and then takes Dave (nice Chameleons top) to go and burgle her dead neighbour's.

Jade Nepia

R.I.P Denise (Caroline Aherne) and Nana (Liz Smith)

Caine

Think it's a fiver these days, I just slap them a note and say keep the magazine

aye when my great great auntie died her so called relatives she aint seen in decades managed to vulture snatch all her antique furniture worth thousands while my grandma got nothing and she was the only one who visited her

Definitely one of the benefits of coming from a poorer family - there's never anything to argue over when someone passes! Great reaction, Josh. I'm one of the people who were hesitant about this being chosen as a reaction but it's so much better than I had remembered. Maybe wouldn't have seen it again had it not been chosen, but I'm so glad it was :)

Charlie

It was weirdly the opposite in my family. My paternal grandmother was fairly well heeled when she finally died, and her will was pretty straightforward with zero drama; the convoluted wills and bickering and relatives immediately picking the house clean of possessions happened on my mum’s side with far less moneyed relatives.

I have to agree with some of the other commenters on here, I wasn't sure how well this programme would suit a Josh reaction but it's become one of my favourites. I'd only seen brief clips before and it didn't seem like my kind of thing and I knew there'd be a lot of silent parts and people not really doing anything so I presumed it wouldn't suit a reaction channel. I'm glad I was totally wrong and misjudged it. Love this now, I'm so glad it won the poll :)

I’m glad you’re enjoying the show, Josh! Please tell me after this series you are going to react to the special episodes? These are longer and are some of the best episodes they did in my opinion. “The Queen of Sheba”, “The New Sofa”, “The Golden Egg Cup”, “Joe’s Crackers” and “Barbara’s Old Ring”. These ran from 2006 to 2012. Keep it up bud.

Love how daves always laughing at everything jim says then has to go straight face once Denise looks at him

Ste_UTB

I wasn't speaking ill of the dead, I was speaking ill of you, the living bloody dead!

My favourite episode

Brilliant reaction, Josh. Thank you.

Hey Josh, I’ve loved your reaction to The Royle Family and I hope you react to The Royle Family specials too. I’ve noticed the Welsh flag in the background too which is where I’m from :)

Chippy dinner was a treat for working-class families, hence the eruption of joy from Jim when Barbara said they were having a chippy haha ... Fish, chips and mushy peas oooooof

BigChanChan

Yes exactly what happened with our family, especially on Friday nights. A chippy tea on a Friday night was a real treat and we used to get super excited about it... Simpler times lol and now I constantly order on Just Eat without even thinking about it.
