I really enjoyed this episode very funny from the start. The face Rimmer made while watching that romantic movie was hilarious. I make a similar face when someone says or does something cheesy in any romantic show/movie lol. I love that Cat wanted to leave after Rimmer was transported away, that cracked me up. Rimmer goodbye was perfect, I have come to regard you as people I met lmao.

This is my favourite series of Red Dwarf. Not sure what the popular opinion is for best series but for me it doesn't get much better than this. Hopefully you enjoy!

Another great series ahead of you Josh, lots of great sci fi concepts (some way ahead of their time, but we'll get to that). The Hologram that had the stand-off with Lister was played by an actor called Don Warrington. He was one of the first British Black actors to play a prominent role in a British sitcom from the 70's who was written to be the victor in situations by fooling white people on any racial prejudices. So it was a big deal for Craig Charles and Danny John-Jules to share a scene with him for their own show.

I love this episode as it gives Rimmer's character a bit more depth. Yes, he isn't the greatest exhibit of humanity but who is? If you watch all the episodes, you'll notice that it's not Rimmer that's the most antagonistic in the Red Dwarf environment. They play some real mean tricks on him. I feel sorry for him a lot of the time.

Great episode! Supposedly the Holoship was designed to be seen change shape throughout the episode; that's why its in a kind of Z shape when it first appears and is a straight line later; they found it too difficult to film actually happening though.

Watching all these episodes after so many years, I never fully realised or appreciated the pivotal role Kryten plays in the series. In pretty much every episode, Kryten is the storyteller and the goal-setter - he almost always has to explain to the other three what's happening, and how they can deal with it, but he fulfils this role so flawlessly you don't even notice. Without Kryten, half of Series 3-6 would be Lister, Cat and Rimmer encountering something weird, shouting "What the smeg is that?" and running away. Love this show.

@ 17:40 Albert Camus gets a mention. He was a goalkeeper AND an existentialist from Albania who wrote books in French. He's not supposed to... I don't know how to.... Is this really happening? It makes no sense. I'm starting to feel like David Mitchell and I'm not entirely sure that I like it.

That bit where Lister chews the cigarette up, in the outtakes (or Smeg Ups) he spits it out as soon as the scene is over and says he doesn't know why he did it 😂

It's a shame the VHS Smeg Ups tapes don't seem to be available on the online services (or even on the DVDs) - haven't seen those in years, but I remember the various clips being set up and introduced by Kryten and it being pretty fun. On the DVDs they just ran the clips without the setup, which was still cool, but the tapes made it even better.

Don’t get me wrong, the show is funny in parts but I skip past every time I see Ricky moping over boring videos of him and his wife..
