Anonymous

Anonymous

wow.. prototype apple devices.. thats so cool! and I absolutely loved playing vortex haha

Anonymous

They seem cool!

Anonymous

I can’t wait for the full video

Anonymous

Aye it’s the after show 😮

Anonymous

Very cool to see prototypes for those two. I love the iPod Classic. Despite having a Galaxy Note 10 with 256gb I might get another iPod Classic to just have it.

Anonymous

Mate epic vid haven’t seen the weekly one yet but lookin foward to it

Anonymous

The dev touch with Cydia on it is so ironic though... super cool stuff!!

Anonymous

appledemo wants to know your location

Anonymous

Did anyone else see "Testing" in the extras menu? I hope he saw it in the edit and goes back to it next time

Anonymous

What was that testing thing in the extras menu of that 6th gen prototype?

Anonymous

The odd looking classic 6/5th gen is used as the itunes image for some 80gb silver 6th gen ipods, I have one like it, its very odd

Anonymous

Looks really cool can’t wait for the main video!

Anonymous

Testing ? ? ?

Anonymous

Im so happy that these IPods actually booted up! Cant wait to see some more of them!

Anonymous

To be honest I resently ordered the soundliberty 79 and the kz es4, because you recommended them to me. Did I make a good choice? And yes I'm still waiting for them.

Anonymous

I'm excited for these!!!

Anonymous

It’s like old Samsung phones with that central camera.

Anonymous

i got the es4's because of the recommendation and they are awesome so i bought another pair

Anonymous

Roight proper vid mate. Quick question tho, I just picked up some Grado sr80s and with the murder of the headphone jack I’m wondering if using the apple provided lighting to aux dongle fucks with the sound quality at all. Any insight would be greatly appreciated

Pietro Gagliardi

Vortex! I remember briefly being able to download extra games for the iPod 5th gen that I have, and that was the big one. It's basically a 3D version of Brick; the game field is projected around the inside of a cylinder, so yes there are click wheel shenanigans.

Anonymous

Man it's so weird being someone's patreon, i thought about being patreon for some youtubers for some time, but this is the first time I actually did it and I'm extremely happy it's you, your content is amazing, it always makes me laugh or smile and even though I only donate 1 dollar (I'm a student and also a drummer so you must understand that being poor and being a drummer doesn't go hand in hand :D ) I'm happy that my money is spent on someone as amazing as you are.

Anonymous

Yo that old YouTube logo brought me back

Anonymous

Curious about why they made a central camera when there's clearly a spot to the left that is where the camera placement ended up on later generations

Anonymous

He recommended some 3rd party ligtning to jack adapter in one of the vids I dont remember what its called as I dont really care, my phone has a jack

Anonymous

The spot is meant to let radi waves throught, the metal body blocks wifi

Anonymous

you do all these videos on in ear and over ear headphones but i want to ask what kind of speakers do you have in your car for max quality

Anonymous

Very cool! I'm looking forward to those vids.

Anonymous

First week I was here when the video was put out, finished the main one and was like "OH YEA THE AFTER SHOW"

Anonymous

The N25 PRE-EVT D2 ipod classic looks like it could be fun. I'm guessing PRE-EVT is something about Pre-Production or Pre-evaluation. Looks like they where testing different parts going by the list of parts on the back.. soo they get a hdd from toshiba and lol idk sandisk and see witch one dies first or what one is faster or cheaper and so on. So i'm guessing the different clickwheel is one that got made, they didn't like it for some reason and went for something else. There was probs a bunch of ipods with different click wheels just to see witch one worked the best. Oww JTAG was not removed? It's used for flashing fw and debugging, that be a thing to poke james about. Does mean you would have to open an ipod classic though.. fun.. Also extra -> testing might be some debug tests like drawing stuff on the screen and button input tests like that factory boot test thing.

All my dreams are coming true 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣

Nice - haven't seen the the model number for a long time! I used to work at Apple back in 2010/2011 and yes I was responsible for things in the factories. But anyway the quick and dirty is that N** is simply the internal model number they use. That covered iPod and iPhone but not iPads if I remember rightly that was K10. The PreEVT, EVT, DVT etc are just the stages that the devices go through in R&D. N90 was the iPhone 4 , N92 was the iPhone 4 for CDMA (which was a special product made by Pegatron not Foxconn). N18 is iPod but what gen my memory fades! Apple tested MANY N** models with things that I never saw but I do know that even folding devices and devices with physical keypads were in Dev at one point. Why code numbers you may ask, well it just part of the internal Apple secrecy. People could talk about N90 or whatever all the time but people outside of those who has signed the NDA had no idea what they were talking about, Steve Jobs is responsible. We even had codenames for factory locations - which got really confusing!

knedit knedit

there is somethign creepy about the center camera. it just... shouldnt go there.

Anonymous

I've played vortex on my mom's old 3g nano, basically a 3d version of brick, and like, much more intuitive for using the click wheel

Anonymous

What would be cool to see is a prototype first gen lol

Anonymous

Also Apple was so close to having Center cameras and not having the wibble wobbles on the newer iPhones. Apple whyyyyyyyy

Anonymous

At around 4:57, there was a menu that said "Testing." I wonder what was on there? I guess we'll never know.

Anonymous

Bonus post: Oh also the testing code on the devices is nothing "special" as such, basically it was a piece of code that allowed the Apple testing equipment (aka trollies full of mac minis with many usb cables) to perform 24 hours tests on the devices. Beyond a few flashing symbols and things on the screen it would not interact with a user. Since the production line staff just literally had to jam in the 30pin and start the test and leave them running. I had a iPad that "fell" off the production line and appear in my hands as a "thank you" for getting the iPad production lines up and working . . . it had the test code on it. I still know people who wrote the testing code and still work in Apple :) Fun fact all those tests for every device are stored and accessible internally in Apple, so in a shop they can check whether your specific device failed or was borderline pass of any tests during production.

In your main video you mentioned using the Raycons for sleeping, have you ever head of SleepPhones? They're just a headband with speakers sewn into them. They look good for sleep music but I have no idea if they are any good or not.

Anonymous

Well here I am, I decided to become a patron. no regrets

Anonymous

Showing tracks as examples for the kind of soundstage you were on about in the main vid was a great idea man very helpful 👍

Anonymous

This is the best 1 dollar I will ever spend.

Anonymous

I love how you have a pretty big channel now but you're basically making the same small level kinda content. Love the vids!

Anonymous

I just want you to know there is a very good chance at one point one of those Ipods could have very well been in Steve Jobs hands. really cool stuff !

Anonymous

You gave such a resounding review on the Kay Zeds, will you be trying out the wireless ones that have already sold out of preorders on their website? Would be cool to see a comparison between Raycons on the new wireless KZs

Anonymous

Noticed in the Extras page there was an option titled “Testing.” Wonder what that is?

Anonymous

I just HAD to become a patron, prototype iPods?? Of course!

nano

there's a button in extras called "testing" :O

Anonymous

this is mostly unrelated other than you brought up the brand in your main channel vid today, but do you reckon you could have a look at the bose’s headphones? I’d really like to get your input on something like the 700s, though you probably already have videos planned and tbf they are pretty expensive, aside from that this content is awesome keep up the good work my man

Anonymous

Just wondering if you will ever try the soudcore liberty 2 pros. I bought mine I few months ago and to me they sound great. I am just wondering what you would think about them, and if I got my money's worth. (I payed like $170 for them, but I have seen them go as low as $120)

Anonymous

At this point I'm just waiting for the Galaxy Buds Pro thrashing vid

Anonymous

Please form a band called Sky ‘N Tree

Anonymous

Super hyped

Anonymous

so disappointed that ipod touch has no camera app...I was so ready for you to taste that crappy lens

Anonymous

I didn't look to see if it was mentioned in other comments, but in the world of the experimental hardware that I've been working around, EVT stands for engineering (or evaluation) verification testing. Generally it is for proof of concept hardware and software. A good example of this is you'll frequently see leaked photos of Google hardware appear on tech news sites with the DVT/PVT/EVT lettering etched onto them. I suppose this shows that Apple probably follows the same naming convention.

Anonymous

You are SO entertaining. Thanks for putting yourself out there! I want to tell you that your channel is so helpful. I live and work at a meditation center so I don't make a ton of money, but I love music and my headphones. When I realized the potential of the btr5 and the sr850s I ordered them and have been on cloud nine with my music in a way that I always though possible but never attained. I had already been experimenting with Tidal and almost canceled my subscription. Youtube tends to attract a lot of reviewers that will sell anything the manufacturer sends to them and it is so tiring. Anyway I am already saving for some HD600's and a balanced cable. You have a dedicated fan! Have a nice day.

Anonymous

Could you review some Bose Soundsport Wireless headphones someday? Not the buds, but the ones with a wire between them. I have them and I think they sound good, but I want to see how they hold up to the Dankpods review! They're also pretty durable. I've had mine for I think 3 years or more and they're holding up great and they still sound great (or, at least I think they sound great).

Anonymous

I'm hyped for the full vid of this. It's gonna be great.

Anonymous

The Reject shop has sound republik true wireless earbuds that look like the Raycons and for only $15 lol

Anonymous

dankpods i dont want to cause privacy issues also dankpods shows photo of family...

Anonymous

Brother, you need to check out the Fiio UTWS3. It can turn most full on wired IEMS into wireless earphones. Mate of mine has one and hes super pleased with it ay.

Anonymous

I've got the same Bose headphones, so I'd be curious as well.

Anonymous

Ooooooo

Anonymous

there was a menu called ‘Testing’ under extras on the 6th gen

Anonymous

I kinda wanted him to try and find a camera app on the App Store for that version of iOS. But maybe there is none. Main video idea?

Anonymous

G’day Mr Pods! Greetings from the land currently know as the U.K...

Anonymous

iI love your channel, and was inspired to build my own custom ipod, but decided to chicken out as I’m so clumsy with delicate components. I therefore treated myself to a lovely purple 256 gb refurb off eBay. Cost me 210 queen Lizzie Quids, but has been well worth the effort of scraping the cash together. As you can tell, I’m learning ‘Strayian, so far so fair dinkum, Cobbler. I also have a great candidate for your nugget reviews, I’d like to send it, maybe you’d enjoy its quirks. Do you have a postal address?

Anonymous

If you're looking for sleepphones that you can't feel, I've been using these for a few years: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0832K9P66/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Their sound is shit yes but it works for falling asleep to white noise / audiobooks.

HeyItzRare

The Classic had a "Testing" menu—

Anonymous

The reason the iPod Classic was formatted to Windows was probably because Apple used Windows machines to develop the iPod operating system (since they didn't have development tools for the ARM processor in the iPod for Mac). This article mentions that along with some other trivia: https://tidbits.com/2020/08/17/the-case-of-the-top-secret-ipod/

Anonymous

can you do me a favour and listen to bongo bong, a truly amazing song

Anonymous

Petition for DankPods to do a drum cover of our choice this year

Anonymous

Whats the name of that jazz song you use for test headphone that won't leave my head?

Anonymous

About the prototype iPod touch 3rd gen with a camera - you can actually buy cases for those since some case designers started shipping products based on leaks before the final version was revealed. I have one of those cases on the way in the mail. Also the iPod touch units didn't seem to be running the nonUI firmware used for testing. Prototypes (and retail units before they get shipped out) have SwitchBoard installed instead of SpringBoard and it's got tons of interesting tools and visuals you'll love to mess around with. If none of the devices in that bundle are running SwitchBoard, I'd be more than happy to send a device that does.

Anonymous

I cannot believe there are new beans for Dank to try ouuuuutttt!

Panzer IV

I stopped playing cyberpunk to watch this

Anonymous

Yooo, the classic had a Testing menu in the Extras screen

Anonymous

Also, the ipod touches have definitely been updated; original development firmware would have come with many cool toys. Maybe you can restore.

Anonymous

man i had a ipod shuffle that was shreck green that was my friends moms that i took because i found it

RiskiVR

4:58 there was a "Testing" section in Extras. I'm so curious on what that was

Anonymous

Question not about this vid specifically but about the one you just uploaded. Are you ever gonna do a KZ specific full vid. Like using different versions and giving us pros and cons for the different models? I’d like to see that vid honestly.

Anonymous

Hello as a firmware patcher for the ipods the 1.2d1 copy you have on that classic would be a great help if i could have a copy i know about the prototypes and how they work and the labeling scheme i was wondering if you could contact me

Anonymous

I always love seeing apple’s Proto types as it’s interesting to see what could’ve been

Anonymous

LET US SEE THE TESTING MENU 👀👀👀

Anonymous

that camera is owned by facebook

Anonymous

Love how Wade got totally distracted by Parachute and Solitaire and forgot all about the Testing Folder under Extras 😂

Matt Falcon

Me literally yelling at the screen "testing!! TESTIIIIINNGG!" as he's playing that game 🤣

Anonymous

Please do a tear down. I wanna see the freaky stuff on the inside

ASBR

Back to the Raycons, I’m really interested to know how they actually are for sleep!

Nakey

RE: Raycons: I posted something similar in the YT comments, but its funny how there's a whole bunch of video reviews for the E25 Pro, but its currently not available on the raycon website. also, there doesnt appear to be an Blitzwolf version of the E25 pro

Anonymous

Got a pair of KSN Pro X and loving them so far lol. They need to sponsor you for a vid xD now my buddy is picking up a pair said they sounded just as good as his 180 dollar wired in ears he had

Anonymous

What was the testing menu in the extras category on the prototype 5th generation? (I think it was the 5th. The one in the clear case.)

Anonymous

I'm thinking the people would like to see the Test menu. :D (I know right, my powers of deduction are beyond belief...)

Anonymous

Holy fuck these are so cool!!

Anonymous

These are reallly interesting. Good find, how do you get your hands on things like this? You’ve come so far, it’s genuinely inspiring.

Anonymous

These are pretty cool like

Anonymous

Wicked interesting mate! never seen anything like these before!

Anonymous

same here, I didn't even know they made prototype iPods

Anonymous

That's HOTT

MissingThePixel

A certain Apple collector with a large quantity of prototypes reached out to DankPods to send him over these. I won't say who, since Dank specifically kept his name out of it though.

Anonymous

You missed the test menu in extras...

OlivePeanuts

I would highly recommend hiding the serial numbers. Apple REALLY doesn't like their development kits and prototypes out in the wild.

Anonymous

Mmaaate

Anonymous

They aren’t going to do anything about it. Even if they tried, Wade would tell them to go pound sand.

Anonymous

dude i freaked so much when you plugged FW to the touch, i thought you killed it

Anonymous

haha same, the first thing i though when i saw the firewire was OVERVOLTAGE!!!

Anonymous

That 3rd Gen iPod Touch could be jailbroken and could possibly have the camera app added.

Anonymous

im think the beeping sound was just a developer going "well lets see if it can boot at least some kind of software", and they deciding that making it beep three times was the best way to test that it is in fact possible to make that ipod edit: oh wow i was immediately wrong and my speculation privileges have been revoked
