This episode is a angst-ridden masterpiece. It is officially the end of the love triangle from here onwards. I liked the way it was wrapped so sensitively between Elena and Stefan because in S4 there was still time for Stefan to completely fall out of love and accept that Elena was no longer in love with him. Damon's heart-breaking voice made me cry yet again. I have seen all these scenes I don't know how many times but I still cry every time. It is so amazing how the only question he asks Elena about the visions is if she and Stefan were happy? and omg my heart cannot take it. He is still only concerned about the happiness of Elena. I also agree with you Sofie that although Stefan and Elena were drawn to find each other because of the spell and all but everything else happened between them was all them. It were their choices and thankfully we got them speaking about the same. However, this whole prophecy thing is something important at the end of the day. It is about giving Stefan and Elena another chance to think about whether they would like to go with the life that has been chosen or destined for them or would they make their choices and write their own destiny. Elena as we have seen earlier with Matt, isn't someone who likes things being planned for her. She wasn't interested in the normal mundane life when it was offered to her. She was always looking for something more and that is exactly what Damon pointed out to her in the first meeting on that abandoned road. The scene in Damon's room in the end really catapults delena into greatness. Because nothing screams true love like not being able to be 'just friends' with your ex. And Damon loves Elena so damn much, wants her so much, needs her so much that only friendship is no longer an option for them anymore. Now that they have been a couple, now that he has memories of them of a time when they have consumed in love, he can't stand to be around her knowing that it's (supposedly) done and over for them. For Elena it is the opposite. She needs Damon. Period. End of story even if it is just as friends. She would rather suffer through the tension and awkwardness of their post-break up world then not be able to look at him or hear his voice. She just wants to be around him, even if they cannot be together. But Damon can't do that. And when he tells her so you can practically hear his heart break. Elena obviously didn't anticipate him rejecting her like this. Though she asked him to let her go, she didn't mean it literally. She did not intend for him to cut her out of his life altogether. And that is what separates them from their past relationships. I personally liked that Damon said that it was too damn hard for him. He was being selfish for himself but so was Elena and both of them aren't wrong. They may be messy and complicated, a totally twisted thunderstorm of insanity woven together with devotion and tragedy and passion the likes of which neither of them could experience with another person.

Also, I do not like how Elena was asking Stefan if Damon and her would be able to speak each other like this? I mean it seemed so made-up. Damon is the one person Elena shares everything with. No matter how awkward it can be but from the beginning she would be able to share things with him and he would listen even if it is hard. So I don't know why writers sometimes to uplift Stelena by downplaying Delena for something that isn't even true in these kinda moments. I don't have any negative feelings about the beautiful scene of Stelena but I just don't understand why drag Damon into it.

I was about to write this before you said it in your outro lol....But I don't know if it's the physicality of the actor or what for Markos but he's so not intimidating, he really feels like the secondhand bad guy that you pull out of the hat last third of the season after we had freaking Silas and the Originals, all of the previous vilains we had and the supernatural forces we were dealing with previously in the show seem like they would make a piece meal out of that guy....He's a big reason why the traveler storyline is definitely one of the worst in the show, even if ep 21 and 22 are good...

Sorry to disagree, the fact that Stelena was the result of a spell explain a lot of things, why Elena was holding back to their future, the fact that she always had an actraction, she was drawn to Damon and the fact that she feel in love with Damon too. The fact that Elena and Stefan had real feelings doesn't detract from the fact that the spell forced them together in the wrong relationship, because Stelena was forced and Delena is out of free will choice. That is the show dichotomy, dream against reality, the dream is perfect but reality is better, is messy but is real. Stelena is representation of teen love, perfect and romantic, Delena is adult love, is real and real life in never perfect but is very whort living. As I said everybody assumed that Katherine was sucked into hell, but somenthing else is happening. The traveller storyline and Marcos is not particularly a new villian that replace the past one but has very important implications and consequences, be patient, you will see.

I agree with you that Stelena couldn't sustain despite the spell. She still was attracted to Damon and fell in love with him because real was more Powerful. When you rewatch episodes, it all makes more sense because you're able to connect it all together. When Elena meets Damon first at the boarding house, you can feel the attraction but feels not so much like a first meeting! I watch it now and I'm looking at her expressions and it's as if she feels she has met him before and cannot stop looking at him. Delena are definitely more real and everyone kept saying that Elena has changed and all once she became a vampire but the point was that she would and become more herself. She matured and become bold with her choices. She didn't fear admitting her actual desires any longer. Stelena found each other because of the spell but I don't think that is to say that what they felt was because of the spell though. They did fall for each other on their own choice but there was always something that wasn't organic about it. For example, Stefan decided to stay in Mystic Falls because he wanted to know about Elena and once he knew she wasn't Katherine, he decided to be a part of her life. So it was planned in a way in the end. Whereas Delena have never been claimed that they are meant to be or that they are destined but they happened despite everything trying to go against them.

@Archna Stelena happen first because of the spell, second because Elena was very young and in a psycological state of extreme vulnerability, having just lost her parents, third happen because Damon compelled her to forget about their encounter on the street, few minute conversation with a super gorgious and misterious guy and she, a small town girl the best could hope for was Matt Donovan, was smitten on the spot. Wouldn't have being compelled, she wouldn't have look at Stefan twice. But Stefan showed up and fullfilled the desire to feel happy again, her desire for mistery, excitment and danger, the desire she had subconciously already ingnited by meeting Damon, desire for everything that Damon was that she forgot she had but was there neverthereless. And it took her 4 season to admit that Damon was what she desired in the first place. The spell, the age, her insecurity, the situation, was an inteferance to Delena that was exactly her fit. You know the children game where they have to put the right shape object into the correct cut out hole of the same shape, to me Stelena was like trying to force a square into a circle, edges are in the way to make the perfect fit. The concequence of all cirumstances that made Stefan and Elena fell in love for each other cannot dectract from the fact that their relationship wasn't their fit, but help them to know what they really wanted. Life is learning jorney that takes you where you want to go if you are prepared to learn , that is ultimatelly the Stelena allegory. Damon and Elena had been always the right fit for each other, Elena had to grow up and learn. Once you know and rewatching all season, so many things make finally sense, how instinctivelly Elena trusted Damon immediatelly, following his advices, how Damon knowing spill the secret while drunk and emotional "There is something between us....you are lying to me to yourself and to Stefan", etc....oh so many scenes make so much sense. That is why I love this show, is fluid, you watch it once is one show, then with all information you have at the end you watch it again and it is totally another thing. You know, it would be so interesting to have a reactor that has watched the show and is willing to start again and see the show as we see it, knowing, and on the plus side it would be spoiler free talk for us too....that would be something. Just saying.....

As we have said earlier that the writing of this show is top-notch because you are able to connect all the dots at the end of the day. I agree with you that there were so many things that tell you from the beginning that Delena is meant to happen but it is journey and they need to live through it. I think both Stefan and Elena have learnt a lot from their relationship. It wasn't the right fit. Stefan fell in love with Elena who I guess was the anti-katherine version but when she didn't fit that image any longer he started falling out of love. Likewise for Elena, she started to know about the darkness of Stefan and she started slowly falling out of love. They both couldn't accept the darkness of one another because they hid it from the beginning. Yeah, rewatching the show is different kind of joy!! Even in S3 when Elena is speaking about love, she talks about how you should love the person who makes you glad to be alive and then she dies. The only person who makes her glad to be alive after her death as a human is Damon. Both them died because they fell in love with the wrong person. And after the death, only they make each other feel alive in death...pure poetry.

Oh wow I couldn't have said it better, Delena is pure poetry, their relastionship is so complicated but realistic and at the same time so idealistic, the sentiments, the care, the trust, the passion, they have for each other is everything everybody would wish to get in their life.They are the perfect fit, that is why she can be friends with Stefan and care for him too but Damon and Elena cannot be friend, because that is the love of your life, the chosen one among millions, the only person that undestand you, that seen the worse of you and still loves you.

Yes Markos is a boring ass villain. It's starting to get to that point in the show where villains start making a lot of weird choices for the sake of storyline. Although it was a nice wrap up to Stelena it felt extremely forced, since it literally was. Also I Love that you love Enzo. He is my favourite male character and doesn't get the appreciation he deserves

We can disagree I do think she's slightly justified. As much as I love Delena, Damon historically and demonstrably has had problems expressing his feelings, it's not downplaying Delena it's just a fact

I love how easy it is, for Stefan and Elena to talk to each other. I LOVE how despite everything, they can be friends. I do think they’re is a clear and distinct difference between that relationship and her and Damon’s relationship. As a Stelena shipper, I have a hard time seeing why Eelena wouldn’t want to just be with Stefan. But I respect her relationship with Damon.
