I had forgotten that Ian was the first to climb inside! But more importantly, the secret of the plunger's use is finally revealed! I love how the Dalek's eyestalk iris opens & closes.

How can the Daleks search Susan???? They haven't got any hands!

Keith Goodnight

My theory (and it's no more than that): unlike later stories, where the Daleks are invading or attacking somewhere else, here they're in their own city surrounded by their own technology. They've got remote-operated machines-- or perhaps plug-in attachments-- they can access whenever they need dexterity. (The real reason is that scriptwriter Terry Nation didn't design the Dalek props, that was designer Raymond Cusick. When writing the script Nation had no idea the final design would lack arms, which preliminary sketches did have. But of course, leaving it at that is no fun.)

Henry Fuller

Since the Doctor and Susan ran away from home, it is unclear wheather Susan is last member of him imidiate family left. He wants to keep her close and yet he values her happiness above all else. Susan probably had been traveling with her grandfather for a few years before she wanted to stay in enlgand in the 20th century. Be a teenager go to school and have a normal life. Was it 5 months the Doctor stayed parked in that junkyard. The doctor likes to travel so he probably looking for any excuse to leave town with Susan. Maybe he thought it might make Susan happy to take the school with them (2 teachers). The doctor can act as frail or youthful as he chooses or as incompetant or clever as he wants too. Do you think the Doctor was putting on a sick act in this story to build Susan's confidense to flourish and grow. He sure loves his grand daughter. I hope didn't he didn't have feeling that this was the beginning of the end of his time traveling with susan. For the next time he met the daleks the doctor would leave earth with broken hearts. The planet where she felt at home. Maybe a couple hundred years in the future and I dunno about leaving her at 16 but maybe he had his reasons. Earth what a wierd place who knows maybeone day he'll come back there, maybe when hes needed.

They never fully showed the creature inside the Daleks until the episode "Dalek" of the revival series. They showed various gloppy things now and again-- in Patrick Troughton's first story for one-- but never an explicit full view. The closest they came was in the 20th anniversary special "The Five Doctors," when a Dalek got blasted open and we saw the blown-apart remnants of the creature, which looked about like the design the new series would use.

Henry Fuller

Ironic that the Daleks were created by the mutated remains of a scared little boy that the doctor saved on a field of battle

Similarly, my situation has changed since I first started watching. I was in my old family home where I had cared for my mother as a sole carer for over three decades. The place was falling down around my ears - it was built in 1840 and on the site of a medieval cemetery - not kidding! My family had been in the village since at least the 1530s - probably much earlier! Thankfully I am now in a much more modern place - built a hundred years later. A smaller place, but the pros are that it has been updated and has underfloor heating! If I hadn't finally been enabled to move - due to the help of a very good friend who trucked all my stuff, books and folios of drawings - I probably would have stayed there and just dwindled away. 'Crumbling Towers' would have just crashed down on top of me. We all need TLC. Mine came, although rather late.

Dr Who's first meme was kids hiding behind the sofa whenever Dale's came on screen. Prince Andrew said he hid behind a settee in Windsor Castle.

We had a walnut upright piano in our living room. I would peer at the television from behind that! Thing is that when I did that then the television would be switched off. I learnt from that to stay seated. Apparently I did the same thing when ski jumpers shot off the ramp in sports programmes. Note. Because my dad had been a skier back in his country of birth, the television stayed on!

I just found your video series and immediately joined your Wibbly Wobbly Patreon! I noticed that you loved the Doctor Who Theme music when you viewed the very first Doctor Who episode ... you should let people know more about Delia Derbyshire who painstakingly created that music. She is the hero for that immediately recognizable tune!

I am disappointed that the Dalek didn't start whining about its impaired vision. I guess thay didn't invent that yet.
