Hey everyone,

It’s time for a new dev update, we also have some more info on the UE5 upgrade and the consequences for deprecated levels.

UE5 Update: As mentioned last week, after the October release we will be running a project-wide cleanup pass to remove any unused assets and bring everything up to a certain standard. This will have the following consequences:

  • The Demo level + quest line will be removed from the patreon releases. Our demo will remain playable for free on Steam.
  • The Old Wild Life map will be stripped of pretty much all assets and will have its landscape material updated. It shall function as a playground for sandbox users to create their own worlds.
  • Some assets in the sandbox will have changes to materials or meshes made to them over the months following the UE5 upgrade, we will try our best to make sure these are as non-destructive to existing sandbox saves as possible but there might be some instances where an impact is unavoidable.

Level: Desert rocks are in detail-sculpting phase and we are also checking out material and texture placement for them. The lake village houses are being modeled right now and the alpha camp concept is in progress.

While we are making good progress with the settlements around the world map our level designer started the long planned overhaul of the region around the mother tree. Be prepared for impressive vistas and lots of cool places to explore.

Code: We added several quality of life features to sandbox systems including a button to match the editor camera to a placed camera, default parameter values for event receivers which are used when no parameter was given to an event dispatcher and some more improvements to the upcoming material editor feature.

Character: The mighty Gobbler is now finished, a 2-2,5m tall chonker that inhabits the humid regions of Kerpal. Do not let his chubby appearance fool you, with his stretchy tongue it can hit targets up to 10m away and his jump attack might catch you quite off-guard.

Our next creature will be the Blackwing, more on him next week.

Animations: Both the Maya X Zuri and Maya X Grok minigames have been completed. Starting next week we will focus on sandbox animations.

Story: Design continues to be very busy implementing the first set of quests. Our talented designer Brudi also wrote an insight into our thought processes in regards to quests that you may find interesting, check it out here.

Build release: The release date for the $25 build has been set for the 14th of October with the $10 build following 1-2 weeks after that as usual.

That's it for now, thanks for all your awesome support,

-Wild Life Team

So excited for the project with this unreal engine 5 transition. Kno it’s not goin to be easy by any means but think the pay off will be worth it. Like the new gobbler wildlife and black wing looks cool. Jus more fleshing out of the world to immerse in with these characters. Great stuff team 💯💪🏻

Does the Gobbler live up to his name in-game?

CompletelyNewguy

Wyverns and toads! Can’t wait to “tame” those…

RemnantRyku

Fantastic that we're getting to see more of the natural wild life.

Samuel

Can you add Fist person POV in minigames?

Since there probably won't be as many updates to talk about when you're focused on the UE5 transition, it would be so cool if you eventually showed a bunch of side-by-side comparisions of the game for before and after UE5 to show how the engine is improving the game.

Faceless

unfortunately, you won't be able to... even if the game's name is wildlife

New Frontiers

The UE5 transition sounds very challenging, but I know Wild Life will be even more spectacular when it's completed.

Wolfy Wet Furr

Yeah I'm hoping so too! Though even if it's kinda rough I hope it's nicer than Jill and the Hunter Gama. Gotta be head, feet, or butt first. Not groin first.

WarMallet

The gobbler would make a good pet. Maya girls could ride the tongue if in a pinch for a quickie while in the outback.

WarMallet

The subject of having pets will be so interesting to see as to what kinds you guys will come up with.
