Stephanie -thanks for sharing this with us , Its so very interesting. (complex but) so so interesting :)

Anonymous

Ohhh how exciting 🤩 😬😁🥰 Can't whit for everything to begin changing into their dream for the gardens and more 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Anonymous

Sounds so interesting funny how older part is straighter then newer part

Anonymous

Well that was very interesting & I feel like I was involved with the meeting ! So fantastic that you now have all that information as it’s going to be even more useful than you think with all that’s going on. Thank you so much for sharing this with us 💕

Anonymous

Really interesting to see what the future holds for La Lande, also love Davey so nice to see him!

Anonymous

That was so interesting! The idea of a chain of lakes tumbling into each other sounds so beautiful. Thank you for sharing this discussion. 🌸😊🌸

Julia Cobb

The architect in me immediately thought you need 1st a “French drain” in front of chateau from Winter Salon to end of the building. It’s called a “French Drain”. That would solve the water drainage problem in that oldest section. I’m not sure what they are called in France, but I had to have one in my mountain house due to water problems. I believe mine is a hard plastic pipe with holes in the top of the pipe running the entire length of the house. It’s a miracle. I’m studying these levels. Gosh I love this! You have so many great ideas for the property and extending the moat is dreamlike! So exciting! Could you tell us what kind of garden to the right of the chateau. I could never understand the name of it. It’s the one heading toward the swimming pond area.

Anonymous

Thankyou so much for sharing Stephanie. Such exciting prospects 😊

Anonymous

I enjoyed watching this even though I know nothing about grade, etc. I'm looking forward to seeing some garden design ideas.

Anonymous

Was so nice to see Davie more relaxed and chatting with you... Also to hear that the midnight/moon garden hedge needs to be moved, sorry Stephanie..... With the woods cut back, it would be nice to see the terrace go along the back and become a long wide path in front of the chapel. I personally would have the midnight garden up there alongside the chapel, maybe a garden of death as well, full of poisonous plants????

Anonymous

LOVE LOVE LOVE 🤓❤️

Anonymous

Did anyone else notice the slope in the chicken pen? Those ladies are going to develop some massive thighs if we don’t have that leveled out.

Anonymous

........so difficult to understand and watch, but I’m not there.... So I think it is all great

Anonymous

What a marvelous man!! Davey I love you bunches, so intelligent and creative, all wrapped with a glorious smile. Can't wait until you get back to LaLande. Thank you for all of your wonderful ideas !

Anonymous

Davy is so knowledgeable and deliberate in his approach. You are very fortunate to have him working on these plans. He will end up saving you a lot of money, heartache, and chaos all the while doing a beautiful job. I do hope the white garden works out the way you envision it! Good luck with all your projects.

Anonymous

Not sure about the liability issues of having poisonous plants with a commercial hospitality business. Wouldn't want anyone getting sick or dying. Not very good for business! Maybe you're joking?

Anonymous

Wow really interesting seeing the different levels of ground around the whole estate and hearing the plans going forward.

Anonymous

Wow, and so interesting

Anonymous

I LOVED THIS!!!! I feel like I learned SO much!!! Even though the jargon was foreign, I kind of followed along... kinda weird, I was originally going to go into engineering, but went into accounting instead!!!! I guess my mind still enjoys all of that engineering stuff LOL!!! :). I can't wait for MORE!!!

Anonymous

I hope you’ve had a chance to watch “”The Gardener”, the 2016 documentary about Frank Cabot. His garden oozes inspiration for what the grounds of LaLande could be. It is free to stream for Amazon prime members.

A few thoughts: Can you harvest the large stones from the river (Remember Michael P's walk) for the capstone? Roller Digger Matt can help. I love Davy's idea of the path being in a pattern to mark the old moat. Your Dad's kitchen water tile pattern can be made into a concrete mold and stained to reflect his shading. Plant sweet woodruff in between as a plant "grout" and side plant with deep purple lavender to simulate water.

Anonymous

So cool! Can your pile rubble by the moat be used to line either the fishery or the pond next to it? Or if there are old stones in it, to reline the dry moat? In re the view of the chateau from the street, I noticed in someone else's vlog the view from the street of the old wing is much better than it was now that the trees in the moat have been felled. But the massive number of slaughtered stumps looks tragic. Are there plans to revive the dry moat as the curb appeal side of the old wing? Davy I remember your talking about that when you were there last. Much interested, as I didn't realize that that's one street view of LaLande. I think tracing the route of the old moat with special paving or patterning, perhaps with a commemorative swale down the middle? Would be wonderful. Thank you both for such precision and vision. Fair seas and following winds!

Anonymous

haha oh that is hilarious!!! I suppose if they ever have to process them it would make some good leg meat. 🐔

Anonymous

Thank you so much for sharing this with us! This is exciting to see what is possible with the gardens and lake and I'm so excited to see it all unfold. 💛💚💙

Anonymous

Really enjoyed this video and the others before where you go into detail with the professional consultants. So interesting to get to see. And Davy is so smart and clear and thoughtful.

Anonymous

Loooooooooved all of this! Thank you so much for sharing all this detail Stephanie & Davey!

Kelly S Larson

Wow, what a gem you found in Davey. This was so fascinating. I'm so glad I became a Patron and get to see these behind-the-scenes videos.

Loved that you shared this with us! enjoyed every minute of it. such a joy to be part of it!

Note: Stephanie, and others, CAN apparently live quite a bit longer. If you look up what David Sinclair at Harvard is taking, you can get the NMN and resveratrol (found in grape casings). They found mice to live 30% longer combined with exercise. At least 15 separate companies are dumping millions into this research, they've already regrown crushed organs, and David believes gen Zers will be living to 150. Google "What does David Sinclair take", there's a woman who's put together what all the wealthier body-focused famous people take, like Joe Rogan etc. He has lots of interviews and podcasts about his research and it can take a few listens to understand what he's talking about, but it's mostly straightforward after that. Harvard doesn't throw that kind of research money into 20 years of someone's work without it, well, working. David is actually Australian and seems like a very sweet man, he's trying to get his molecules classified for insurance because he thinks if we can stave off old-age and therefore old-age diseases like parkinson's and dementia it can increase the quality of our elder years as well as save nations billions in healthcare (theoretically). Though I feel like it will just push all those costs to later times...but it would be nice to live younger longer huh. Stephanie, maybe if you start taking the molecules now you could see Lalande at120! :D

Stephanie, ask Davie to explain a ha-ha wall for the change in level between the old part of the chateau and the lake. The part adjacent to the building could be is relatively flat with a gentle slope, then there is a wall the divides the levels. The top of the wall is flush with the law on the top level. When you look from the house to the lake, the difference between levels is virtually invisible to the eye. It’s the same concept as a vanishing pool set against a seascape. One plane connects visually to the further one to trick the eye into seeing only one continual plane. In the US we call that a ha-ha wall.

Anonymous

This was awesome thanks for sharing

Anonymous

That was incredibly interesting! It is all way above my pay grade (I don’t understand much of it) but interesting nonetheless. It was also fascinating to see your discussion of ideas & to see creative people brainstorming & then spark new ideas, especially towards the end when Davy had fireworks going off in his brain! It will be great to see what he comes up with in future! Thank you for sharing! xo

Anonymous

Wow!! How great is all of this? How great is Davy? And how amazing all of this will be when it is made manifest! Tonight I will dream of walking around the grounds of the Chateau with this future vision in my mind. ✨🌙✨

Anonymous

Thank you Stephanie and Davy, that was such an interesting and informative conversation. I enjoyed that you had the time to deeply explore and discuss so many things. The plans that you were both working from was very helpful to get a foundational overview and perspective of future planning for all types of options at LaLande. Wonderful things are happening - May the Magic (with such excellent planning) Continue!

Anonymous

Thank you Stephanie, I love detailed plans! It's a delight to see you talk of things now after years of hopefully in the future.

Anonymous

Very enjoyable! Something you said reminded me of something we did 30 years ago—-Only we called our garden a “Moon Garden”. And we planted it in the shape of a crescent moon behind our pool—with a small bench inside the crescent. It was truly beautiful in the moonlight. I look forward to seeing yours!

Anonymous

So interesting - thanks for sharing. I remember watching you plant that hedge in front of the Chapel on the TV show years back, and I think if i remember right your first digger experience! Davy's plans sound perfect and to re-use the plants a bonus.

Anonymous

Fascinating! I love the plans you’ve made

Anonymous

Wonderful information for you... you can be deliberate and confident now in your execution of future landscaping plans. Davy is a wonderful resource and so helpful. His knowledge is invaluable. I really enjoyed learning. Thank you.

Anonymous

It's so great to see the plans developing, I can't wait to see what Davy comes up with!

Anonymous

I agree with the value of planning for joining up the parterre garden and fishpond with the front garden area. I don't like the idea of making the parterre split level, though. Also, if there are garden 'rooms' in the rear, it would be a shame if they obscure the lake view. I look forward to seeing further details of Davy's design proposals.

Anonymous

I’m really enjoying these long planning chats - I am in awe of the amount of work going ahead and the detail necessary to make sure all proceeds in a logical way. I can imagine that it does indeed feel like a dream when a year ago you were facing a grim time ahead without bookings for guests and workshops.

Anonymous

I have to admit I played this in the background, imagining it not to be of particular interest to me...how wrong I was! Wow, so much detail, great to have all that accurate information as a basis for all these exciting projects. Thanks for posting the discussion in full😊

Anonymous

Just a thought - Maybe when Selma’s moves to his new spot an outdoor dog run (with a shelter) can be made for Diesel for when he is not Selma’s shadow 🤔

Anonymous

Very interesting indeed ! Thank you for the detailed approach to Lalande ! it would be awsome to see the 3D section also ! As Plato said " Αρχή ήμιση παντός " , ‘well begun is half done !!!!

Anonymous

That was so so fascinating, Steph. I love being "a fly on the wall" and listening to your planning sessions. Davey has lots of great ideas and it will be wonderful to see them come to fruition. Thank you for sharing this with us. Much love.

Anonymous

I was wondering, what is Davy by profession?

Anonymous

Thank you for these background infos. It is a real interesting process how you both think every step through. Davy seems very accomplished and experienced even at a project of this scale. What a great addition to the Lalanders.

Anonymous

Loved all this detailed talk on the landscaping outdoor area. Davy is fantastic and so clear in his explanations 💖💖

Anonymous

Going to be lovely to see what happens with every where, what is going to happen with the old moat, and all the planting and everything else

Anonymous

Loved this! You could get some great garden ideas from @themontydon. Lots of garden room ideas.

Julie Chittenden

I really enjoy the planning process. And it amused me that he was using the same program I use for my work. And by amused, I mean that it made my eye twitch. Can't seem to get away from it :) Looking forward to seeing what you do with all of this!

Anonymous

Great to see the entire topography of the property, it puts things into better perspective. How fun to be able to plan areas outside the chateau to join all of the spaces together.

Anonymous

Davy does a great job at explaining and planning. Looking forward to his arrival back in France and the landscaping jobs to come.

Anonymous

I absolutely love his whole paradise garden series and garden room. What a great reference, thanks.

Anonymous

I never thought I would be interested in survey plans. But Davy, has made explanation of the survey very interesting and understandable. So exciting to see his plans come to completion.

Anonymous

I really enjoyed listening to all your planning for the future it was all very interesting. are there still plans to having a covered eating area in the walled garden. For the summer picnics outdoors. What about having your smaller Fountain near the chapel just a thought. Lol

Anonymous

Ha ! Was just about to say the same thing ! I suppose it's because after watching Château Diaries for so long we are now emotionally involved as Lalande has become a little bit" chez-nous" : )

Anonymous

I have always been fascinated with gardens, landscaping, old architecture etc. This was a delicious way to spend the day not doing my chores! So delighted to have a teeny share and interest in a French Chateaux. Life is suddenly better for following all of the LaLande family . Love all of the work and thought in making it even more special!

Anonymous

So informative! Never been so enthralled with numbers related to landscapes and buildings! Lucky to have such wonderful people such as Davy to work with! Ah, if only we could live 150 years to not only see into the future but live and appreciate it. However, it is wonderful and so exciting to look back on the past and dream and see what could and will be in the future! Love experiencing this transformation and planning through you lovely Stephanie!~k

Anonymous

Ooo, if you graveled a road all the way around the back of the walled garden to the tennis court, Selmar (and perhaps others of us) ;) could park campers/RVs back there. Would need some power and water hookups maybe run that far out....

Anonymous

The gardens will look amazing when Davy can arrive at the chateau to begin his designs. How exciting everything will look both inside and outside.

Anonymous

That was absolutely fascinating, so many plans to look forward to 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🐨

Anonymous

This was very interesting. Thank you for posting it!

Anonymous

Hi Stephanie. Loved the latest vlog. Did the ETTC DIY crew give you a clue as to when the next series starts on Channel 4? Seems ages since you filmed! Looking forward to the next series! C

Anonymous

thank you for sharing Stephanie, it was very interesting! Also... yay for the lake!!

Anonymous

I love when you share videos like this. I really enjoy the planning stages of any project. It's fun to envision what could be. Almost as much fun as seeing the final result. Keep them coming please?

Anonymous

perhaps a mini sheep-proof herb garden outside the kitchen door?

Anonymous

perhaps a solar panel-covered wood store, somewhat away from the main house for better fire safety? and I was sure I once learned about using thermal bores to start the water's heating, but then increasing the heat with an interim device/system that would help heat the house more (if desired, if winter guests were more frequent).

Anonymous

Davy is amazing. You lucked out when you found him. He brings a lot to the table.

Anonymous

I found that absolutely fascinating... thank you show much for sharing the whole conversation.

Anonymous

I love being a part of these conversations, so interesting and exciting, thank you Stephanie xox

Anonymous

How wonderful!!!! So many possibilities lol. Can't help but wonder if some of the missing moat capstone is actually down in the moat?? Wonder if Mr Potts recalls stepping on any stone during his swims in the moat lol. Also, I always wondered how to make sense of that "data" info lol. AND YES! There must be statues & concrete planters & urns. So very happy for you & Lalande! She is going to be more beautiful than ever!!!

Anonymous

OMG, I really enjoyed all these technical stuff... Thank you.

Anonymous

One location of the old chateau rubble would be in any cellar. It might be why you have fewer cellars than so many of the other chateux have. Or any mounds or lumps in the yard close by - many stones would also have been recovered and sold or reused on site.... can't wait for investigations through the years! :)

Anonymous

Wow. Fascinating and exciting.

Anonymous

Davey is wonderfully sweet! Such a charming and intelligent man xo

Anonymous

What a lovely guy really enjoyed hearing the discussion. So desperate to see the plans!I keep wondering Is Davey a volunteer or is he a contractor?

Anonymous

Just getting used to navagating around Patreon. and finding wonderful gems like this one. It was very special to see such a comprehensive plan of future improvements. So interesting, too, to understand the “lay of the land” as well as the “bones” of the chateau itself. Now when we see each task being tackled, we will really have a thorough understanding of them. This must be fantastic information for you to be able to know and use to its fullest potential. This all goes to show how carefully and lovingly you are creating and recreating lovely La Lande. I’m one happy patron and thank you for sharing such joy with us. I hope you are taking good care of you, as well. It’s hard to watch you do heavy lifting when you’ve been recently out of hospital. You are a dynamo but take it from one who was always strong but pushed her body to the brink. Blessings to you always!

Anonymous

This video had my full attention the whole way through, as Davy just shines in this video and his experience and expertise is front and centre. Did not realise how useful such a survey would be!! I do prefer his idea regarding the old moat as much more practical and honouring all ages of the Chateau, including this new age.

Anonymous

I dont know if i missed a vlog but how did Davy become involved and what is his qualifications? Is he being paid as a consultant. What you need is someone who is a project manager to draw up a project plan to work out the sequence of all the projects at the chateau and when all the relevant contractors are needed.

Anonymous

Davy's demeanor and knowledge are phenomenal. He has a wealth of ideas. Listens intently and is calm. Perfect to work with.

Anonymous

If I remember correctly, a while back he wrote to Stephanie and offered to volunteer his time. He is a landscape architect.
