Patreon Video 13: Interview with Selmar!

Comments

Michelle Morrison

I'd love to see another version on this that would be more a conversation between the three owners (maybe Marie would sit in for a bag covered Nick) about their journey as Chateau owners and their collective dreams for the future of the Chateau and creating an intentional community of friends to live with!

Anonymous

So delightful! Thank you for sharing more of the wonderful LaLande family!

Anonymous

I can’t wait to watch!

Anonymous

I was so excited to see the post I clicked the heart before even watching the video! Now going to actually watch :)

Anonymous

Thanks for clarifying re Nati. I knew you likely had a backup plan so it wouldn’t make her wait indefinitely. I very much support helping wherever the need is greatest, and have no problem with patrons being the safety net for when the b+b is struggling.

Anonymous

Isabel looks so regal on her mower-throne.

Anonymous

Stephanie ~ My goodness I think you absolutely need Natalia ~ how can you possibly do all these vlogs and videos ??? You can only be stretched so far.... I didn't see the comments and they may be valid comments regarding employment but realistically come on, please!

Anonymous

Wow! That is some mower! I love it!

Anonymous

Also thank you Selmar for letting us get to know you better! Stephanie you are an excellent interviewer and you give us such insight into yourself at the same time.

Anonymous

Perhaps a closer / tighter shot of the video would be more elegant.

Anonymous

I totally agree Jacqueline and you are right some people would complain if she didn’t make the vlogs! Isn’t it interesting??? I feel The same way ... don’t care how she used the Patreon money! Just so much joy watching her videos and how much progress she is making😀 she is a natural for this because I find it all so uplifting and educational! There’s a lot oif work and research she does which I appreciate very much!

Anonymous

STEPH.......sorry about the constructive criticism you got. (Expected with having over 80K in subscribers and several hundred in Patrons.)Some people don't realize that if you didn't get a little help, you would have to stop your fund raising efforts. Having 1.5 staff is nothing for a B&B.

Anonymous

What a lovely interview with Selmar😎 Selmar you are a beautiful soul! The Chateau is lucky to have you reside there. Mummy’s new mower needs a name! It’s fantastic to see her whipping about on it...GO MUMMY😜 I love the idea of employing Nattie too. I am happy to be a patron here for the Chateau and trust Stephanie’s decisions as to how she utilizes the funds. The Chateau and all it offers everyone is simply magical ✨🏰✨

Evelyn McElroy

Stephanie, what an interview! I swear, you were born to do this work. I know you love the Chateau, but your ability with the vlogs is stunning and these two interviews, combined with the educational, informational pieces you have been doing - well, your natural talent for this work is so apparent. Thank you so much! And Selmar is so interesting!!

Anonymous

I have no problem with the money going towards paying people to help manage the chateau. Dan is providing much needed help with the landscaping and Natalia with the office work. Now you can focus on the videos. All these components help to make the chateau better. Selmar is so delightful and kind.

Anonymous

Stephanie, it was another great interview. I wondered how long has he been using a camper and how did he come about getting Diesel. Who will the next interview be with? Will it ever be Elusive Nick?

Anonymous

Another great interview! Thanks. You gave a great set of answers about how the donations are being used.Clearly, you can't do everything!

Anonymous

Wow Selmar didn't know you were so talented! Everyone at Lalande is so talented!

Anonymous

What a lovely conversation with Selmar. It was great to find out more about him.

Anonymous

Thankyou Stephanie, I really enjoyed watching that . You’ve created a loving family at Lalande. When I signed up to Patreon,it was because I fully support you in any decision you make. What you have created and given to the world to share, is simply amazing. You have my support without hesitation or questioning ⚜️🏰🦚🍾

Anonymous

if u interview nick he has to do this without a bag on his head. .

Anonymous

I almost wet myself when Selmar picked up Diesel and started running......Mummy was full throttle on the mower LOL

Anonymous

It seems Selmar has faced great tradegy, look forward to seeing his ideas for his place at lalande and the next interview!

Anonymous

I really like how you address the comments and how transparent and matter of fact you’ve been. I think it’s key that you are able to employ people with the Patreon funds because it takes people to keep a place that big in good repair. And the B&B brings in money for the upkeep so by employing Natalia, who manages the B&B, which brings in money, is in fact furthering the renovation work. Maybe indirectly but every is working toward the same goal, renovation and maintenance. Absolutely loved the interview with Selmar and it’s fantastic that he’s staying! I very much enjoy your vlogs they always leave a smile on my face. Have a fantastic week!

Anonymous

Thank you Selmar and Stephanie. As always a delightful part of the day. 💖

Anonymous

Really lovely interview with Selmar, he is such an interesting man and multi talented.

Anonymous

Wow! Still waters run deep. From our vlog views, Selmar seems quiet and reserved but with little bit of flair. What I admire about him is that he didn't fudge on any answers, he just said them. I guess that's the power thing. Great interview but I still want to know more.

Anonymous

Please interview Mummy next! ❤ New questions, maybe?

Anonymous

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Anonymous

I am just loving this new interview format, and not surprisingly, Selmar is delightful and so talented!!

Anonymous

Stephanie, another great video and great to catch up with Selmar another talented addition to the story at LaLande...Just a thought, now you have a new space for the weekly updates you can call them the weekday BOGs instead of Vlogs! 🤣🤣 only kidding 😂 In terms of the money, I personally have no problem with the patron finance paying for Dan and Natalia, as at the end of the day it all contributes to bringing the Chateau to life. You will need help to complete projects and have the time to create videos. It’s all part of the ultimate goal of making the chateau self sustaining. You have always been so open about what money is spent on (more than you need to be). I decided to contribute to enable you to do what you love and are talented at. You have my support whatever you decide to do. It is a pleasure seeing the updates and life at LaLande. Can’t wait to see who is next in the hot seat... or maybe loo seat! ...I’ll stop now 🤣😁

Anonymous

Stephanie, another nice update vlog... I enjoyed Selmar’s interview and Isabell’s “Wild Ride” (although it was a little bit scary...she’s so little and the mower is big and powerful). Now, my opinion about patrons gifting Stephanie money...my philosophy is that I am gifting Stephanie money so that she may continue following her passion of renovating LaLande. I have no “conditions” on my gift. If Stephanie needs to hire people to do work around LaLande then that’s wonderful. Our gift of money gives her more time to focus on renovating LaLande and maybe gives her a little bit of extra time to enjoy what she’s achieved! Our goal as patron’s is the renovation of LaLande. There is no one more qualified than Stephanie to determine how best to meet that goal. 🤗🎉💐

Anonymous

Was so happy to see it was Selmar today. What an interesting, talented and lovely man. Henri must have drawn him to the chateau,

Anonymous

Another wonderful interview! Loved seeing Selmar's artwork - you are surrounded by so many talented people.......they are all drawn to you and LaLande!

Anonymous

CAN NEXT TARGET BE SELMAR GETTING A MONTHLY WAGE ALSO

Anonymous

Stephanie, I hold you in the highest esteem and your integrity is beyond reproach. PLEASE know I support and trust you in all things related to what's best for the chateau, which includes those who work tirelessly in its care. Thank you for including me along your journey. I feel so honored. Now, how 'bout that mower?!! YIPPIE!!!!

Anonymous

I have no problem with u using the patrons to pay Natalia, I give because I enjoy your video’s and your home not to tell you what to do with the money

Georgette Jones

Hi, I am one of your early paterons , and I see no problem with using the money to pay salaries that are needed to keep the chateau running. I also really enjoy these interviews and I just answered a post sent to me in April about getting a card from you.....never have gotten mine❗️. A package is on its way, my family is excited to see you get it👍 Much love and have a great day❤️

Anonymous

Unbelievable to see Isabel on that powerful mover !! Don’t know how she does it. I am the same age and know, how scared I would be.

Anonymous

What a wonderful interview. Thank you Stephanie and Selma. I hope to meet both of you in person one day along with the rest of the LaLande family.

Anonymous

That was a lovely interview... and Selmar responded with such sincerity. I wold love to hear your answers to those same questions, Stephanie. :)

Janis Paterson

Stephanie, Great interview with Selmar! He is so talented, I hope he IS still there in 10 years. My husband is jealous of Mummy's mower! Thank you for the great videos, and very happy for Natalia.

Anonymous

Thank you so much, first for the sneak peak of Mummy on the mower! That was epic. And then Selmar’s interview. You are a wonderful interviewer giving him time to answer the questions without that rushed feeling. He truly is an amazing man - so glad he is at a LaLande. And the disco moment - I had tears in my eyes laughing so hard! Keep up the fantastic work you are doing! So much joy!!

Anonymous

My breakfast had to wait, as soon as I saw that Selmar was the subject. Very intense, but insightful too. I hope he stays for 10 years also. He seems very content at your Chateau Stephanie. Thank you so much for this! Wishing you both all the very best. 👌🏻👏🥂 I look forward to round 2 of different questions, maybe at some stage.

Anonymous

This was a truly lovely interview, so well done that it felt as thought you Stephanie and Selmar were simply chatting!! Now, because Selmar is so interesting there needs to be a part 2!

Anonymous

Mummy's monster mower is finally here! 😁🥰 Please tell her to be careful, so she doesn't end up in a ditch with it, though 😂 This was yet another really amazing and enjoyable interview! Thank you so much, Stephanie. I'm loving these so much and I'm already looking forward to the next one. I don't even care who it's with, because every single Lalander will be a joy to see interviewed! 😊 It was so interesting to be able to learn more about the multi-talented gentle giant of Lalande this time around ❤ I really do hope Selmar will still be there 10 years from now, because he's brought so much joy and he's done so many amazing things already, ever since showing up out of the blue one day during lockdown. Imagine what other amazing things he'll be able to bring to Lalande in the next few years! Mummy is absolutely right that he's a gift from the heavens 😊 I really loved being able to hear about and also see some of his art. Truly a multi-talented man! And I just need to agree with what I've seen others say; you've truly created a big, loving family at Lalande and I just want to say thank you for sharing even a tiny snippet of it all with us. It's so nice to be able to see, especially during times like these when it's sometimes hard to stay positive every single day. Loved this, so much. Lots and lots of love from Sweden ❤❤❤❤

Anonymous

LaLande is more than a building, it's a community of wonderful and interesting people. Please use the funds any way you see fit! Thank you so much for sharing Selmar's story.

Anonymous

You are a great interviewer Stephanie. Enjoying these tremendously. I was having heart palpitations as your mother was racing along on that new lawnmower near the moat!

Anonymous

Thank you Stephanie and Selmar. The interview was very insightful. I really like the format of these sessions, it gives such a sense of trust and friendship to share the information with us. I feel very privileged to be part of the Lalande family even if it is in a very hands off way. Congratulations to Natalia on her new permanent role and to Isabelle on her new toy. 😁🥰

Anonymous

What a guy!

Anonymous

A wonderful treat ⭐⭐⭐

Anonymous

Stephanie, this was a great interview. Selmar was a grand slam with his answers. To know that he is planning on being there for years to come, will help make your life a lot easier. To know that you can count on him to have your back, must lift a lot off your shoulders. I feel that as a Patreon, when something arises and you need to use money from what we contribute, is still in itself, Restoration on the Chateau. If you can't pay your Bill's, or the staff when things are slow and the cash flow isn't coming in. Then you could end up having to close. Having owned my own Grooming Shoppe, I know first hand what you're talking about. Sometimes you need to rob Peter to pay Paul. But, in the end, you had perfect Business Leaders as examples. Your parents. I know that I only contribute a VERY SMALL AMOUNT, you can use my small portion as you see fit. I'm looking forward to your next interview, and tomorrow night with all of you. Love you guys.🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋

Anonymous

I love the video of mummy on the mower. Do you think it would help heard sheep? I agree with a lot of the other people here. I gift my money to make the chateaux come to life and for you, Stephanie, to make your dreams a reality. There are no conditions or requirements on it. If you want it to pay for Nattie or scottmans tartan themed bedroom, the gift is for you to use as you wish. No strings attached. I only hope that i will be able to visit when things are closer to normal.

Anonymous

This series has turned out to be quite profound- Oliver with finding your purpose and Selmar with his greatest strength also being his weakness. We're so lucky to get to know these kind, fascinating people better. Thank you so much, Stephanie. I'll know I'll be watching all of these interviews again and again, and thinking back on their answers often. ps Joining Me In My Bathroom is a great title ;-)

Anonymous

interview in the bathroom, you should see Sali Hughes YouTube interviews, she interviews celebrities in their bathrooms!! So you're on trend lol Selmar's art was beautiful, he really was sent from heaven and I do hope he stay with you for the next 10 year and sees the chateau finished, that would be lovely xxx

Anonymous

The toilet just casually to the left of this perfect set. lolol I love this channel so much!

Anonymous

Oh, by the way, your mother was so precious on her new play-toy. She will be cutting the neighbor's grass just to have grass to cut. Hahaha LOLOL She did look so cute on her-throne.🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴

Anonymous

Stephanie, I missed the comments about the Patreon money as well. I want to add that I too believe that the money should be spent as needed for anything that is for the chateau. The interview with Selmar was wonderful. He is a gentle giant that has been a blessing to LaLande during lockdown. He seemed very shy when he arrived and during this time he has blossomed. I was surprised but pleased to learn his insight and knowledge about himself as well as his command of English. He is such a talented artist and has a powerful vision. Hope he has some time to continue his art. We need to get him a dance partner! Next costume party he needs to come as his portraits. Theme could be “Who are you “. Wonderful job with the interview Stephanie. Two great men you have introduced to us.

Anonymous

What a fantastic, funny, articulate and warm interview with Selmar. Stephanie, it was so easy going and what an insight to a very lovely man. Thank you both for this, it was wonderful and Isabelle I love your new machine, but please take care. Love from the Dordogne xxxx

Emma Young

Mummy on the mower was just fantastic, she looked like a kid in a sweet shop 💖 Brilliant interview with Selmar too, his embarrassing story is very similar to mine (although I had on underwear, it just glowed under UV lighting 🤣🤣🤣) To change the questions up a bit you could put them (maybe 15/20) in a bowl and have your 'guest' pick out 10, then it's a surprise for both of you!!!

Anonymous

HOW WONDERFUL- what else can I say! The love, the passion, the sincerity and fabulous creativity ozzing from gorgeous Selmar. Lalande is so blessed to have attracted this man. STEPHANIE - your charm and natural interview style extracts the best in your guests. You are one FABULOUS woman. Love watching you. XX

Anonymous

Stephanie, you can use my donation for anything you want. I am a patron because I love watching videos and want to see anything extra I can.

Anonymous

You can also use my donation for whatever you want Stephanie - including hiring trusted staff as this also helps run the whole chateau! ♥️

Anonymous

That was wonderful. I feel like I know Selmar know. I am glad he is staying on as he has such versatile skills and everything he does is well done and will last. Mummy on the mower when she sat back in the seat and just owning it was delightful. As far as I am concerned you use my money for nati. This frees you up to plan renovation work so to me it is being spent ON the chateau.

Anonymous

Selmar said elsewhere he has been living in the camper van for 10 years.

Anonymous

You have said so beautifully what so many of us are thinking.

Anonymous

Oh wonderful, I'm just seeing this. Always late to the party I suppose :)

Anonymous

Stephanie when I signed up for patron I did not specify where that money went I just want it it to go to the Chateau. Use it as you best see fit. It's your money spend it however you want

Anonymous

Im the same. I did not get my card but I did not want to complain. I got a lovely reply on patreon messaging from Isabelle so I look forward to its arrival. (I have also sent something but dont tell anyone).

Anonymous

I love the questions you have created and thank you Selmar for the interview. Best story about the white suit!! Love both your outfits together!

Anonymous

Thank you, I cried when Selmar said his purpose was to help people who are different

Anonymous

That is one BIG mower !! Mummy is having a great time already !!!

Anonymous

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE SELMARS DEEP HEARTED LAUGHTER. IT IS SO JOYOUS AND FREEING. AND YES I DO KNOW THIS IS IN CAPS. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Anonymous

Selma is another lovely and talented addition to your wonderful team & so pleased he is becoming a permanent fixture- I agree that you spend the Patreon money in any way you want to run & maintain the. chateau. I loved how Mummy ran after the mowers when it arrived on the trailer as much as seeing her racing along it. Love you interviewing everyone it’s great xx

Anonymous

Loved this interview, and especially loved the visuals: the black in both your clothes against the black fireplace and accessories, with the touches of silver just all went together so well! Stephanie, you are an amazing interviewer, and Selmar, I'm curious if you had seen any of the Chateau Diaries vlogs before you arrived? (Loved that outfit, by the way!)

Anonymous

Selmar😘

Anonymous

This was a lovely interview. Selmar is so very talented, and clearly a sweetheart to the core! I too hope he will be in residence for a long while. Stephanie, you have a wonderful style, and these first two interviews have really been a pleasure.

Anonymous

Selmar has a true heart of gold.... such a beautiful and amazing interview. I must be his long-lost twin because I also am a Taurus, love to be creative and I’ve always wanted to help people. Thank you so much, Stephanie, for interviewing Selmar! Selmar....we love you❤️

Anonymous

Dear Stephanie, I love watching how kind you are to people. You're such a lovely person! It was so nice to get to know Selmar a little more. Thank you for another great video! <3

Terrie Powell

What a delightful interview!! Thank you both!!! I laughed so often but especially when he said he hoped to be at the Chateau in 10 years once the restoration was completed!!! Stephanie’s look was priceless. 😂🥰😍🥰

Anonymous

Stephanie that interview just confirms what we all felt ,that Selmar is a kind multi talented soul who has been a gift to Lalande.

Anonymous

Stephanie, have you done work in front of the camera before DIY? You are such a luminous natural talent with the ability to draw the viewer in and make the experience personal and intimate. I know someone will want to make a movie about this experience and your life story.

Anonymous

Rhonda, you're right. I thought it was a good place for Stephanie to place her whiskey. Cheers!

Anonymous

Fantastic interview

Anonymous

Another great interview, what a delightful bunch of people. I've had a few husqvarna ride on mowers and they are fantastic. Never had a problem with them. Steph have you had your DNA done? I think your ancestry would be very interesting. Find your hidden marchioness.

Anonymous

Stephanie, in my mind i live at la lande and it is the most joyous place for which i thank yoy. We are

Anonymous

So enjoyable! The bathroom has very good acoustics with its very nature being another colourful and enchanting stage for LaLande...Banter in the Bathroom. Big hugs and love...C

Anonymous

What a wonderful interview, Selmar is such a talented gentleman who is a bright, gentle but strong person. Lets hope he does stay around La Lande for 10 years or more. Stephanie the background view of the toilet is classic! lol! Hope all the La Landers and La Lande family and friends are all doing well! <3

Anonymous

Selmar’s Art aesthetic reminds me a bit of Patrick Nagel back in the 80’s/90’s. Love it! Great interview!

Anonymous

Selmar interview. Fabulous. What a charming man. 👏🥂✌️

Anonymous

When that ghost said he was going to help by attracting good people to Lalande, he meant it and he did it. Selmar, Natalia, Marie, Tomaz, Michael Petherick, Walton, all such stellar folk. <3

Anonymous

I love how philosophical Selmar is and he comes across as such a gentle soul I would love to see a line drawing of Thor 🦚😊

Anonymous

Selmar is so meant to be at Lalande. 💜🌟👏👏👏😊😊😊

Anonymous

I actually think I could watch 30 minutes just with mummy on that mower......lol

Anonymous

I loved this, and I absolutely love this series so far!! Getting to know people on a deeper level is so, so interesting! Also, Selmar being a Taurus makes total sense; they are strong, reliable, practical, (stubborn 😂), and they love beauty, comfort, and being surrounded by art and music. They also love working with their hands. Perfect!

Anonymous

your mother is perfection.

Anonymous

He is so charming and I just love his purpose being to help people. I really believe he’s been good for LaLande amd it’s been good for him.....and I hope he IS there in 10 years. I also hope someday he has a loving partner!!!!

Anonymous

I just loved the loo in the background....though a throne was needed for regal purple lover!.....no worries re money with me I trust you because you are so transparent - though totally understand people wanting to see it on the chateau but for me employing someone is money spent on the chateau. It means you have the time to work on the chateau...so in essence we are paying you to make the curtains, interior design etc rather than buying them in. The interviews are fab.....and can't wait for next week and mummy on that mower! It was priceless viewing...she looked like one of those wind up toys that goes everywhere until it hits something and then turns round :) France may put La Lande in lock down due health worries from mummy mowing people down lol

Anonymous

yay for Mummy's mower! I wonder if someone (who am I kidding, Selmar) could make a seat insert for her? I find that most machinery is built for men 3 times Isobelle's size, and having to reach for the controls will eventually become a bit painful.

Anonymous

Selmar you have lived a life true to yourself, full of passions and adventure. You fit perfectly at Lalande, and I'm so glad you'll be staying!

Anonymous

Words fail me!! Just a great interview. Thank you both very much!

Anonymous

Yes, flip the table, the interviewer needs to be interviewed herself!

Anonymous

Well done, Stephanie! Mummy will be absolutely unstoppable on that new mower, and knowing Selmar's desire to be at Lalande for years to come has us all breathing a big sigh of relief. I think it's pretty clear we've all fallen in love with Selmar. I hope he is preparing himself for packages filled with lots of art supplies. Now that we know more about him, we can send our love and appreciation for his contribution to your vlogs and the work he's doing at Lalande. It's so interesting that Selmar chose the color purple. The meaning of purple is everything Selmar is. <3 "Purple combines the calm stability of blue and the fierce energy of red. The color purple is often associated with royalty, nobility, luxury, power, and ambition. Purple also represents meanings of wealth, extravagance, creativity, wisdom, dignity, grandeur, devotion, peace, pride, mystery, independence, and magic."

Anonymous

Loved this. I think maybe i have a bit of a crush on Selmar now..lol. so interesting and intelligent...and Mummy on that beast of a mower!!!

Anonymous

I have just realised that you have my ideal man and soulmate living with you Stephanie. Just a shame I have been married for 40 years and I’m old enough to be his mother! You friendly ghost Henri is remarkable at sending you everything and everyone you need to bring Lalande to life. Thank you for sharing this remarkable experience. It is totally addictive.

Anonymous

Another great interview. It was lovely getting to know more about Selmar. What a nice, kind, man

Denise Behrends

Selmar, you comport as such a gentleman. It’s so touching to observe you modeling such politeness in always dressing up to meet the occasion—from your birthday to your formal dance lessons to this interview—you always hit the perfect notes of respect and style. The “set” for this interview was the most glamorous yet! Your wardrobes coordinated with flair. And the oh-by-the-way loo next to the mantle seemed so apropos. Where else but Chateau de Lalande would a loo take on the role of an objet d’art? Isabelle, you sparkle with joy on your new mower. Please do take care on that very powerful machine, and remember to slow down as you navigate your turns. We don’t want there to ever be any need for that roll bar. Stephanie, your dreams are our dreams, and we trust you implicitly with any and all Patreon funds.

Anonymous

No amount of comments, donations, or views, can adequately describe how much I love these videos, this place, and appreciation for you making them. Thank you.

Anonymous

Such an in depth interview with Selmar. He's such a great guy. Thanks to both Stephanie and Selmar who have a remarkable relationship. Diesel seemed to lose his patience for a bit. He's such a good friend for Selmar. Yeah Isabelle got her new mower!

Anonymous

Thank you for interviewing Selmar! I do agree that Henri must have sent him! If he will be there a lot of the time, I think it is a very good thing to have a giant protecting Lalanders and pea chicks. Thank him for his candid answers and for letting us get to know him!

Anonymous

What a lovely way of getting to know more about Selma and it was really wonderful to see his amazing art portfolio, thank you. Mummy on the new mower put terror in my heart, please not to close to the edge of the moat 🙏😬 With regards Patreon monies - I have been a long time subscriber and Patron and I have always felt that the content you produce was of such high quality that you deserved support. I am comfortable to say I would support any decisions you make about the priorities for the chateau and for your business. - of course staff is part of the journey. Unlike some other accounts you also give your Patreon’s quality exclusive content as well as extras like the photos and sound recordings and I thank you for that. Once I give you the money then the spending decisions are yours to make, thank you for letting us know in advance what your plans are and listening to some of our ideas.

Anonymous

Selmar what an amazing, kind, gentle and talented man you are. Mummy in the new mower she looks so small and cute, but wouldn’t want to get her way. Stephanie couldn’t be mean to anyone xx

Anonymous

Mummy on the mower just made my day.

Anonymous

I believe that the money spent on hiring Nati frees you to make money to renovate the chateau so indirectly, it does go towards the chateau... Interveiw with Selmar was lovely. How tall is he?

Anonymous

I've enjoyed the interviews tremendously. Selmar is an original person with great self awareness. I love Diesel too, with his mellow personality. So fun to see Mommy riding her new mower. She is my age, but so much more energetic and agile.

Anonymous

Hello Stephanie! About the patreon funds and the way you use it, I don’t really think it’s fair to ask of you to use it only for renovations, or to ask you to justify every choices. We are just patreons not co-owners of Lalande and we pay to help you with the projects in exchange of additional content and perks. We don’t have to dictate the way you choose to use the money. In my opinion you are the best person to know exactly what Lalande needs and if you use the funds to hire staff, to buy a wallpaper or even for a quiche knife well I’m happy to be here and help. 💕 Thank you for the lovely interview, it was fun to know more about Selmar! 👀

Anonymous

I really enjoyed the interview. Very interesting, informative, and full of insight. Well done, both of you.

Anonymous

Stephanie..you are so blessed to have so many talented people sharing your dream at the chateau ! Thank you for doing these interviews. :) I really enjoy getting to know everyone !

Anonymous

Excellent interview! Selmar is a class act. I loved his shoes too, and he is very talented. His drawings are magnificent.

Anonymous

We truly believe that the funds we patrons give are for you to create, maintain, run, renovate, etc. I mean $19,000.00/month, and growing, is unbelievable. We give because we trust you to spend the funds as needed. Jon-Michael and I feel that you should do as you need to do with the money that is given. If that includes employing someone to assist you in whatever Chateau de la Lande needs, then do it. I used to work at a non-profit. People would make donations and earmark it for this or that (such as this money is for the trimming of the bushes... but we don’t have bushes or plans to get bushes... so we would have to hold that money in our accounting and couldn’t spend it because it was earmarked for a specific reason...). It got to the point we stopped accepting donations with special instructions/earmarks attached. We would say your donation goes toward the non-profit and it will be used for that purpose but we can’t take a donation with special instructions/earmarks. We patrons are funding the Chateau. Jon-Michael and I are more than happy the money we give can keep the videos coming, the “lawnmowers” coming, the renovations coming, the volunteers coming, the grounds kept, the employees paid, and whatever else arises. Thank you for being amazing and sharing your lives with us. We will continue to be Dauphin et Dauphine level patrons and look forward to visiting as soon as we are able. Selmar’s art is amazing. Does he sell his work? If so, where could it be purchased? We understand he does commissions. We’d love to purchase a piece sometime or commission him sometime.

Anonymous

What a wonderful interview. Selmar is such a kind person. Isabelle looks fantastic on her new mower!😄

Great interview with Selmar! He is such a gentle man with a gentle heart. I hope that he really will be there forever because it’s in his heart to help Stephanie with the heart that she has in La Londe. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Lovely video. Glad Selmar is planning to stay, such talent!

Stephanie, any money I give - Including during live chats - can be used for WHATEVER you see fit - and that includes even when i say "for mummy's garden" because what i actually mean is: if you actually need thia to pay the electric bill, or electrician and that one day - you might be able to put $$ towards the garden - because the garden will still exist BECAUSE you were able to pay your bills - yeah..... I mean that... not - please put this in a separate account - no... put it in a lump - and use it for anything and everything a La Chateau 😁 And - I must say, every time you respond to one of these concerns- I LITERALLY think " wow.... she is so nice..... i really have to work on being more like that😳" Of course..... the world needs its guard dogs too🤣🤣🤣🤣 You still need an assistant 😜 Bravo hasnt called yet huh?? weird..... An Bolly should SPONSOR you!! HARD CORE.... what's up with their PR/marketing team🤔 Asleep at the wheel🤣🤣😜😜

Oh! And Selmar!! Wonderful!! i wonder if he is dyslexic? So many super creative people are😁 (including me!)

Stephanie I just want to say that some people are very rigid and cannot be flexible when unforseen problems occur. I am referring to the person who critisized you for using Patreon money for Nati. COVID-19 is something that none of us could have forseen therefore we need to be able to do whatever we can to make things go forward. As a Dauphine of Lalande I want you to know that you may use the money that I /we provide every month for whatever you need to keep the Chateau moving forward. Please do not take one negative criticism as a driving force. There are many of us who feel differently. I send you much love and admire all that you are doing.

Wow, what amazing art! And what an absolutely fascinating person Selmar is...so many facets to his personality, talent and mind...and he reminds me a bit of Albrecht Durer...probably because of his fabulous hair...

Anonymous

Lovely interview! It was great getting to know Selmar more and to see he has plans to continue his stay. It's also wonderful that his continued stay is something you can and would like to accommodate.

Anonymous

Lovely interview. Selmar your magical talents are the perfect accompaniment to Team Lalande! So glad to hear you are intending to stick around :)

Anonymous

Quick! Interview everyone in the house before they know the questions!🤭

Hi Stephanie! I’m not active on the comments section, but just wanted to say that I became a patron to show my appreciation and support for all the TIME and EFFORT you put into restoring and maintaining Lalande, and along with it is your ability to PRODUCE so much content that we are more than happy to CONSUME. In that regard, you should be able to freely use the money as you see fit. I appreciate the transparency, but whether it’s to buy fabric, a mower, hire extra help, or even pay yourself too (for all that hard work, you deserve it!). I think it’s money well spent all around.

Nope. Nick will always have a bag on his head. That is the Elusive Nick. You must learn to accept him for who his is.

Jana Miranda

Is this the world's first interview in a bathroom? If my bathroom was this beautiful, I would invite guests too. Thank you, Selmar, for sharing so much. Mummy's mower looks a lot like the Ferrari I saw the at the Dept. of Motor Vehicles today. Go, Isabelle, go!

Anonymous

After finishing the video, I thought how extraordinary it is that you have so many people coming to the chateau with such interesting stories and backgrounds to tell about their lives. I wonder if it is chateau or if it is Stephanie's desire for magic that draws these people together. Maybe both, or maybe it's because really, everyone does have something interesting about them and we just get a chance to hear their stories, which is not always the case in life. Anyhow, thanks Stephanie! It really is a little bit of joy.

Anonymous

Fantastic interview, very thought provoking. Selmar has inspired my husband and and I to try Tango during quarantine.....with the help of YouTube instructional videos, of course 😉

Anonymous

I loved this interview with Selmar. It showed many sides of him that are fascinating. He is a fabulous artist and who would have known that if not for this interview? Steph, you have an amazing talent as an interviewer (along with all your other amazing talents!!). Thank you for sharing this with us.

What an amazing interview with Selmar. Amazing interview and amazing man. Thank you so much. xoxo

What a great interview! It’s so fun to know more about Selmar, and it was awesome to get to see his artwork. I love how all the right people are showing up at the chateau at just the right time!

What a great interview! How interesting is Selmar ? A really special person. Stephanie you are a wonderful interviewer in that you put the person you are interviewing at ease. Wonderful!

Anonymous

I love how down to earth you are. Sitting so elegantly beside a toilet! Great interview Steph.

Anonymous

Selmar is so calm. His energy in turn made your energy calm as well. Lovely man

Anonymous

This was such an enchanting interview. I loved how thought provoking it was. I think more of us should sit down and interview those in our lives, I think it helps to see where they are coming from and helps to get to know others on a more well rounded level . Just lovely.

Anonymous

Hi Stephanie - I think it was really nice to address a patron’s concern. I also agree with many of the others that the money I give needs to go to where you think is best for all aspects of maintaining and improving the Chateau. My contribution has no strings attached. The interview with Selmar was AMAZING. What a talented good hearted person he is! I love these interviews and look forward to seeing more of them. Ahhhh please tell mummy to be very careful on the new mower!!

Anonymous

Shannon, I totally think she taking off and this is only the beginning. I am amazed it hasn't happened yet on one hand and perhaps secretly pleased that she is still ours for the time being.

What a guy! Very interesting interview with Selmar it’s lovely to get to know the people we see at the chateau. On another note I am happy for you to use the Patreon money any way you need to it is there to support every aspect of the chateau’s needs. I look forward to seeing more of the interviews in the future xxx

Anonymous

I thoroughly enjoyed that interview with Selmar. He is a true gift from on high to Lalande and I am so pleased for you and him that he found his way to the chateau. It seems as though it was providence that brought him to you. I’m enjoying getting to know everyone who is connected with the chateau. These interviews are terrific and I have to say that your bathroom makes a perfect space for them. The sound is great and since you have such exquisite taste, the setting is ideal. I would also like to reiterate what a few other patrons have said. Please use the money in anyway that is required to support the running of your amazing home. You don’t use it frivolously and every ‘penny’ is used appropriately. My contribution comes to you to be used as you see fit, not conditions are placed upon it. Thank you.

I had the same thought..... perhaps it has some of Henry’s doing too 😉

Omg, Selmar, he is fantastic

I love being a Patreon and enjoy the interviews immensely. It is lovely to be a part of this wonderful community that you have created Stephanie I would love to be able to help with all the sewing projects including making costumes something that I feel is my purpose, to create , in many different ways so others can fulfil their potential too. I too think I am a little bit in love with Selmar he is such a beautiful soul and so talented I am proud to join his army of admirers. Keep going with everything you are doing it is great to have something to look forward to and I am avidly waiting for your next post 🌺😘

Anonymous

Great interview with Selmar, he is an interesting and considerate man with a wonderful laugh. I am not surprised that Stephanie and Lalande attracts such amazingly creative people. I appreciate how candidly Stephanie faced up to the comments from Patreon Mummy on the mower was hysterical... fairground dodgems sprang to mind!

Anonymous

What a lovely interview with Selmar. He is an asset to you and Lalande as there’s so much to do. I imagine there are a few years of work still to do in the chateau if the attic rooms are to be restored so Selmar will be such a great help. I’m hoping too that he’ll be there for years to come, he fits in so well, along with Diesel. Love the lawn mower! Mummy’s face was a picture when it arrived. I love how Selmar scooped Diesel up into his arms so he didn’t get run over! Thanks for another fabulous interview Stephanie, I think the bathroom is a very elegant setting! ❤️❤️❤️

Anonymous

Thank you Stephanie for another great interview! Selmar is one very talented gentleman. His artwork is beautiful and his attention to detail is inspiring.

Anonymous

Stephanie ,could you please ask selmar if you could maybe provide a piece of selmars artwork on Patreon? I really loved the horse personally.

Anonymous

...as for my contribution to the patron page (as little as it is), I would like to say as many other patrons have said already, do with it what you will! I just love having this small bit of escapism and having something that my 9 year old son enjoys watching with me. Just out of curiosity... the area of floor boards that Diesel was scratching at, is there something possibly hidden under there that he can smell?

Anonymous

What a great interview. I so enjoyed it so much!! I Thank you for the laugh as well. I appreciate the transparency, but whether it’s to buy fabric, a mower, hire extra help, or even pay yourself too (for all that hard work, you deserve it!). I think it’s money well spent all around.

I copied and agreed with Abigail's comment about Stephanie should be able to use the patreon money how she see's fit-

Thanks very much Stephanie for yet another great interview - Selmar is a treasure, and what a surprise that he wants to be there to help restore the Chateau for the next 10 yrs. I agree with Kitch that you have the ability to attract such lovely and talented people to the chateau. Thank you for giving us this interview. Also glad to see Isabelle on the mower. Who would you interview the next time? Michael Patheric or Thomas or Nick’s wife Mary? Good luck!

Thank you for this wonderfull interview with Selmar. Such a handy man on the right spot. And that he can stays for 10 years! Realy great an wonderfull. Please continue with these great interviews, you are so patient, and you take time for every body. And Nathalie is a great help and you cant without her, so thank you for de mony explenation.

Anonymous

Maybe you could employ selmar in some small way, he is very talented and hard working. Would be a shame for him to leave. Even a small amount would help him with personal things that he needs.

Anonymous

I loved the interview with Selmar. He's definitely been a wonderful addition to LaLande. It disturbs me to hear that anyone challenged you on the use of the Patreon funds. I tried to read through the comments of Ollie's video and only saw one person comment about her dislike of hiring Natalie. For me, whenever I want and try to assist people, whether friends in person or charities or through Patreon, the donation/assistance is merely that....a donation. No strings attached. I shouldn't put any specific expectations on what my assistance will do. It would be like trying to control someone else's behavior just because I help them. And when I like to help multiple people, that would be exhausting. What I find upsetting is when I see or hear people "tell you" what you need to do...because they've donated any sum to you. That's not how it works. You've opened up your life to us on an international scale. You share your goals, your successes, failures, friends and wonderful spirit. I trust you to do what you need to do with the funds you receive. Obviously COVID has changed everything for all of us, including the sources of income for the Château, and 99.999% of us know we are contributing to the overall development of the well being of the Château and everything that goes on inside! You've made a great community and I'm happy to be part of it. Thanks to you and Isabelle and everyone at Lalande. One last thing..while I'm "preaching" LOL. I know what it's like to be private and I don't think I could be in a position to vlog all the time and open up my life so freely as you have done as well as others there. But I want to say that I highly respect Nick's need for anonymity and privacy...that includes being seen in the vlog, talking in the videos, or being interviewed. I wouldn't want pressure to be put on Nick to be interviewed like Oliver and Selmar have been. I also wouldn't expect that his Anniversary trip with Marie and you on the Orient Express would be in any way made uncomfortable for him or inhibited by a need to vlog all the time for us. I think they'll be times when you can, but the first priority should be that the three of you enjoy the trip! Have a wonderful day! With love from San Francisco! Michael

Anonymous

Michael Bergantino you have expressed my thoughts completely. The reward for my humble monthly donation is to see the vlogs and follow life at the chateau. I’m delighted with what is presented to me and what works are being undertaken.

Just fab what an incredibly nice sincere man Selmar is. I also see no wrong In Natalie been funded in part or even temporarily by patronage, she is a jigsaw part that is needed for the whole picture of LaLande to be seen. And I think Isabelle must wear a life jacket when she mows by the moat 😂 loving these interviews. 🥂

Michael I agree , if anything Stephanie may have to employ more people ! How they ever magaed wiy

Selmar you are such a lovely man. Calm kind caring and very interesting. 🌷

Thanks Stephanie for yet another lovely interview. Looking forward to the next one.

Anonymous

Another fantastic interview. Selmar is such a lovely man! I too echo the sentiments of many others above - I am a patron because I want to help you achieve your goals at Lalande and it is up to you to use that money as you see fit and I trust your judgment to do so. For me it is a monthly donation with no strings attached and no expectations on my part. Can’t wait to see who is up next..... 😊

Anonymous

I completely agree with Gail

Anonymous

He is SO Dutch in his story and attitude and I am SO happy that he imagines still being at Lalande in ten years time, he is exceptionel.

Anonymous

Mummy looks like she is sitting on her Mower Throne in the last part there! All legs crossed thanking her loyal subjects 😂😂💜#AllHailQueenMummy 👑

Anonymous

Hello Michael Bergantino , you expressed so eloquently what many of us are thinking and wishing for. Thank you very much. Stephanie and Mummy have a way to attract such wonderful people . Who finds in France a wonderful gardener like ? ( can’t think of the name at the moment ). First he was very reserved , and to see him shining as he did on Isabelles birthday , was so great. And his wonderful gift. He and Isabelle have bonded so beautifully.

Anonymous

Well said Michael Bergantino. My view is that my donation is there to enhance life at Chateau de Lalande, be it structurally, logistically or otherwise. It is obvious that hiring Natalia will bring in more money for the chateau overall. I would never tell Stephanie what to do with the money. My contribution is unconditional.

Anonymous

there was something on a previous vlog though which upset me slightly. Namely , Michael Potts handing Stephanie his rubbish at the end of his stay. He is quite a poser , and certainly not boyfriend material . Observation of an experienced and wise octogenarian. Stephanie, you are a kind , hardworking, talented , beautiful girl but be brave and let him take care of his own rubbish.. have other people noticed this ? 🙏👋🥰

Anonymous

Once again a great vlog and finally Isabelle has her mower how wonderful 👒🏎. The monies that are received via the Patreons accounts to my mind is to repair, improve and help the Chateau and employing people like Nati and Dan is all part and parcel of this ongoing project. So keep what you’re doing it’s wonderful you have been so open and upfront about what is what, and have even accommodated the few negative comments. To me “The Girl “ is doing good🥂. Really enjoyed Selmar’s 🎩🕺Q&A he is so very talented, calm and certainly not boastful, yet another treasure in that wonderful place of Chateau de Lalande. Can’t wait for your next Interview wow. 🎤. I’ve thought of some new ideas - how about converting somewhere into a studio to soundproof, upload vlogs do interviews etc. and the other is a golf cart/mini moke to ferry things around😁🥂🍾💕

Anonymous

I had an impression that Selmar is shy , but he came out as very confident, pleasant and artistic man.Such a treasure for Lalande.

That was wonderful! What a fabulous man Selmar is!

Thank you so much for helping us get to know all of the wonderful loving people at Lalande. I really enjoy insight into all of them. ❤️

Such a gentle interview style Stephanie, Selmar you’re art is so amazing thank you for sharing x

thechateaudiaries

It's party of the way we tease each other. He also loves nothing more than to leave me his laundry to deal with!!! But behind the scenes, Michael is a true backbone for Lalande. On top of his full time job, and his photography, he and Natalia talk everyday to get on top of all of the admin that's needed. Whenever I need help, he drops everything and fixes my problems. He was in Amsterdam on the night that my father died, and without telling me, he turned up at Lalande the very next day. He's that sort of friend :)

Anonymous

He has fit perfectly in the way of life at Lalande. Thanks for letting us get to know him more. I love the question. I know people could prepare so you can mix them up but always keep number one! What brought them to Lalande, its my favorite

Anonymous

Loved the interview with Selmar what a unique, kind, loving, generous, gentle & talented human being ❤. Stephanie you are a great interviewer........maybe another career awaits 😉. I am a proud Patreon with no strings attached or aggenda. I have full faith in you to administer the funds in the way that you see fit for the chateau. I am NOT here to tell you what to do but to work as a team for the good of Lalande in any shape or form. Continue being you & do what is needed. Je vous aime xx.

Sharidan Dee Ann Vincent

It was a great interview! We know more about you both through it. I also hope Selmar will stay at the chateau for 10 more years at least! Thanks for sharing!

Anonymous

Wonderful interview with the powerful, and yet gentle, Selmar. A true Master of so many facets of life. *** If I were a millionaire I would give the Chateau half for you to do whatever you wish. *** I would love it if you started an Amazon Wish List as Marie did.

Anonymous

Natty being hired is what compelled me (finally) to become a patron. I like the fund being part restoration, part maintenance for the Chateau. Dan's gardening has a tangible, visible effect, but I don't think people are giving the managerial component enough credit. It's necessary to help the Chateau live, breathe, and prosper. Then again, I think Stephanie is being gracious to not take any of her personal salary from the Chateau fund and I am only giving $5 per month so I am not so particular on how that $5 is spent, but helping people make a living while keeping the Chateau alive is money well spent! The people are the lifeblood of the Chateau and a big reason I watch!

Anonymous

I agree with Emily above and wanted to add.....I hope we never become a community that won't let others raise a concern or worry....I would hate any Lalander think they can't say honestly what is on their mind in case they upset people and face a backlash. Honestly, transparency and love is what Stephanie exudes and as a community we can exude it too. I genuinely think that is what Stephanie does really well....she listens and accepts genuine concerns...she faces them head on....and tries to find a solution that suits all parties....a true lady of La Lande. So long live our open, honest, accepting of all thoughts and ideas community - I love being a lalander (even if my niece thinks it means I am a flower!)

Anonymous

What a treat! Selmar is perfect. He stays at Lalande, just how it should be but very nice to hear it! :-) I look very much forward to visiting Lalande. When the lake is in place.

Anonymous

I didn't realize Selmar was such a recent addition to Lalande! You all have such a wonderful rapport with him that I assumed he'd been around for a very long time.

Anonymous

It was hillarious watching Isobelle cut the grass it reminds me of when i got a new cleaning machine so entertaining xx

Anonymous

I think the dog was trying to tell you there’s something under the floor there. 😳. I don’t know if you saw it in the live or not but I’d suggest you get a radio set so Isabelle can always call for help anywhere she is. I know the cell coverage is spotty and I worry about her zooming around while everyone else is working inside or in different areas. Or even alone in the garden.

Anonymous

Stephanie, do whatever you want for the money.

Anonymous

it was given without strings.

How very cool is Selmar ✨ He definitely belongs at LaLande xx

Anonymous

Loved this interview. Selmar is so talented. What an artistic soul!

The key to me to a person's true nature is how they treat animals and those without the same blessings as them. I think Selmar from the very first with his care for Diesel and the peachicks has shown us the type of kind person he is. It is lovely to see and I'm so glad LaLande is able to to be filled with such helpful people. My question for Stephanie would be - does it ever feel overwhelming that so many people want to be part of the Chateau? 10 years is a long time and as much as I'd be excited by the answer because Selmar is fabulous, for me that would be a - whoa, I wasn't expecting that, answer. I wonder what your vision of the Chateau in 10 years is?

Ashley Johann

Feel free to use my money however you see fit. You are the one devoting your time, energy and heart to the Chateau so if you want to use it for payroll or a cup of tea feel free. : )

Anonymous

Thank you Stephanie, Selmar is such a kind and gentle soul and it was so lovely to hear of his background and get more depth to whom he is. I would love to hear your answers to all the questions! xx

It was wonderful to learn more about Selmar. Looking forward to the next one. In the regular vlog video posted today, we were able to see how well the little Ian’s are doing. However, what am I missing? I only counted 3 Ians and there should be 4 after the wee little one passed of natural causes. Where is the missing Ian?

Anonymous

She mentioned in the live chat that all 4 are still doing well! :)

Anonymous

Selmar is truly an artist at heart. Everything he does, he does with care and grace. It’s amazing.

Anonymous

Stephanie, your interview with Selmar was so enlightening. He is a fascinating man and his coming to the chateau at the beginning of lock down does seem like destiny. The fact you did the interview in your bathroom on a settee in view of the toilet, and there was a opera singer practicing in the background seemed perfect. You have created a wonderful home that is welcome to people who know that kindness, art, beauty, and friendship make life very sweet. Thank you.

Anonymous

What a delightful conversation between two friends! I so enjoyed learning more about Selmar and appreciate his vulnerability about being different and his purpose to help those who are different. Thank you Selmar for sharing your beautiful art and yourself! Thank you also Stephanie for seeing and bringing out the absolute most beautiful parts in everyone around you! Something very special is going here. ❤️

Anonymous

Also, I am so glad you hired Nati and feel that the Patreon site should be used as per your discretion to support every aspect of the chateau. I am sure Nati is so valuable to the chateau and can’t wait to see what the future holds l. You have a true wisdom about such things as evident by what you have already accomplished. Trust your gut!

Anonymous

I too noticed how Dan has become less timid and shy. It must be daunting at first considering how many viewers are watching. So cute Mummy and her gardener. They need to buy him a weed wacker though. Also a back hoe. 😀

Anna Ibarra

I am so happy to have joined the Patreons and able to see these interviews. They are ways to get to know more of LaLande family. Amazed about Selmar and his hidden skills. Thanks for sharing. I love his self portrait. He is a self confident, but confident man. What a blessing for LaLande. His laughter is infectious and just joyous, just as Stephanie’s. Tell “Mummy” to so ever careful on that fancy but frightful mower. I have not made any suggestions to the patreon accts, suggestions, as I am just less then a month old to it. I am not worried as I have seen how Stephanie seems so focus on making up the chateau for its best and for people to come and enjoy. She makes charts and makes accounts for what will be spent and where and amounts. With that, it is not a one woman show, and it’s definitely requires a small village to help this journey, to being LaLande to its former glory. Simply people need to work, and this Chanel is how I found LaLande and due to Covid I fell in live with it, and making more vlogs makes it so much more alluring and we want more, taking Stephanie’s time away from other duties. I love that Stephanie has charge over the channel as it’s her baby and we love how she does vlogs. You are doing so much so quickly and it’s so amazing. 👏🏼👏🏼

Anonymous

Selmar is such a unique, wonderful person - just like Stephanie, Mummy and all the others at Lalande. This interview was really moving to me and spoke to me. He is right, and you can sense in the videos that it is like the people at Lalande are drawn to it and are there for a reason - that is really captured in the videos. Selmar reminds me a lot of my husband, their stories are very similar. My husband is a digital artist, software developer, programmer and never found his way in school, but found his way working alone on his own terms doing what he loves. I am SO thrilled to hear that Selmar plans to stay at Lalande for a long time. What a wonderful person you are Stephanie to allow and encourage this to happen. I cannot wait to see your friendship blossom over the coming years. You have such wonderful people in all facets of your life. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Anonymous

I feel that Dan is the exception with regard to using Patreon funds to pay him because his work at present is renovating the chateau’s gardens and grounds and has yet to reach the maintenance stage whilst I agree other staff should be paid from bed and breakfast earning when Covid 19 permits this to return to normal

Anonymous

So many hidden talents and such humility

Anonymous

What a lovely interview with Selmar. Such a talented, multifaceted soul, strong and yet gentle. I think you have all been together before in previous incarnations as with Michael Petherick. Thank you 💜

Anonymous

To repeat what I have said previously, I do not mind in the SLIGHTEST how my patreon contribution is spent. La lande is what it is not because of the building but because of its inhabitants. To this end, if you wish to spend my contribution on getting binned with the elusive Nick or on giving Natalia a salary for running the bed and breakfast, I am all for it. Power to you - ignore the haters!

Anonymous

Thank you for the interview Selmar and Stephanie! Its wonderful to learn more about the inhabitants of Lalande. I enjoyed seeing Selmars art work also 😁 so many talented people at the chateaux. Stephanie I think it's fair to pay Dan and Nati with the patrion funds while the b&b is getting back on its feet

Anonymous

Selmar should return to Q & A soon ... I feel there's much more to tell!

Anonymous

Wonderful interview with Selmar! Thank you so much for letting us get to know more about him. As a patron, I do not care where the money goes as staff are an integral part of running Lalande.

Anonymous

I agree with the above comments.paying Nat's salary out of Patreon funds is absolutely justified. It's all part and parcel of supportiing the wondrous place that is La Lande!

Anonymous

I’m so surprised that anyone even has an opinion about what the money's spent on—you could spend it on hamsters and hot air balloons for all I care, as long as you keep making such lovely videos! <3 hehe

Anonymous

The interviews are now my favorite vlogs. You are very good at asking then allowing the people to tell their stories. I find it fascinating how Selmar was drawn to cut ties and come from Holland to LaLande to stay for an extended part of his life. He's a gem.

Anonymous

I must admit I haven’t seen last weeks negative comments about the funding for Nati’s employment and I do find it very strange that this was even raised as a problem. Stephanie is now very much a content creator dedicating her life to making amazing videos for us, that is why Patreon is so good, we are here to support her art and the wonderful team at La Lande. I see her Patreon in the same way as an entertainment subscription like Netflix or renting a film to watch and I wouldn’t feel the need to contact these companies to ask where my money is being spent. I think we need to remember that the targets are there for fun and Stephanie doesn’t even need to have them there. I personally couldn’t care less what she spends my money on and I would actually love to see her enjoy it or do up her bedroom. She and the lovely group at La Lande have brought me so much joy, education and laughter nothing would make me happier than to see them all enjoy the money a little if it gives her more time to make the vlogs. We also need to remember the hours she has spent sat in a car in the dark just to share her work when she could be with her family, that’s a massive sacrifice and I think it’s a huge commitment on her part.

Anonymous

Louise Sinclair---- you have hit the nail on the head! My thoughts exactly! Thank you for sharing! Stephanie, I am so happy for you and your family and 'team Lalande'. Take care!

I absolutely loved the video of Isabelle on her new mower! Made me smile. She is fearless! We need a camera mounted on the mower to see Mummy’s view! 😂😂😂

Anonymous

Well that's that then. I am officially besotted with Selmar on many levels. His sensibilities speak to me-his strength (and weakness); his love to help others; his being drawn to your world and his skills as a craftsman , yogi and dancer. A superb interview,Stephanie.A girl crush for you too. Just one little thing however..I am a happily married woman! ;) .Air kisses to y oiu both from Australia xx

Annie Davis

So glad that almost all patrons agree that you should spend money as you feel it should be. If someone is not happy with that then dont give. I loved the interview with Selmar & please ask Mummy to be careful on that mower. 🥰🥰🥰

Anonymous

Stephanie said it so well what a gentle giant of a man. I really enjoyed learning more about Selmar.

Anonymous

Stephanie, spend the money as you see fit. Payroll is very much related to the chateau. There will always be critics, so just keep doing what you're doing. We love you and the entire LaLande family!

Sharidan Dee Ann Vincent

Labor is an expense for the chateau as much as renovations. As chatelaine you must allocate money as you see fit to ensure things run smoothly. Covid has been terrible for everyone including businesses such as the chateau's B&B - so run it as you must. We support you!

Wow, I LOVE this interview series it’s fascinating. And deep! I love that it’s so deep and I’m engrossed the whole way through.. Very enjoyable thank you. In some ways the whole money target thing just doesn’t do it for me. It seems to make it feel (to me) about money and stuff, and feels a bit , I don’t know , just not for me. When I started watching, there was about 15k subscribers, now it’s a bit “how many, how many” spoils it a little bit for me, but it’s just my opinion, each to their own as they say. I am a Patreon elsewhere where they don’t show the monthly money and in some ways I prefer it. ... it’s not a big thing, though I would personally prefer not to have targets... xx

Anonymous

United States Thank you, Stephanie and Selmar ... Appreciate you and all that you do! God Bless xoxo

Totally agree, my main reason for joining the Patreon was as a thank you ❤ for all the great content Stephanie is producing and the time and effort to constantly give us a little bit of extra content on this channel, so a totally worthy target

Idea for Selmar; create a painting of the Pea-chicks 🦚

Hello Stephane. The renovation of the grounds and the estate is as much a part of renovating the Chateau as is the work on the the physical building itself, and from the early days of the Patreon account you let us know you intended some of the Patreon money would go on hiring a gardener, so it’s entirely appropriate for Dan’s wages to be covered from patrons income. The same applies for Nati’s wage too. I believe it’s completely appropriate for her pay to be met from your Patreon income. Nati running the B&B side of the Chateau will free you up to continue your focus of making YouTube videos, and will allow you to continue to concentrate on their content and quality. We shouldn’t forget your interesting high quality videos are what brought many of us here as patrons in the first place! And employing Nati (and Dan) won’t only only give you the space to continue growing the YouTube channel, which in turn will help bring in more patrons enabling more renovations, it will also help the patrons money go around in other good ways too not just by giving employment to Nati and Dan now, but hopefully in time to others too. Gotta love the many possible ways ripples from the circle of money the patrons give has the potential to expand and touch even more lives! Its great your correspondents raised their concerns, and that you aired them, but I do think in this case they missed the wider points and benefits.

I'm all for using the money as you see fit, it all goes into the chateau upkeep in one way or another. Plus, Natia spends a lot of time going through your inbox and helping to keep on top of Patron comments and she frees you up for focusing time and energy on the vlogs which benefits everyone in the long run. You won't be able to be creative if you are stressed out about day to day keeping the roof over everyone's heads.

But I do think Selma needs his own channel or tv series and a place for taking commissions to fund his future dazzling wardrobe:) He really is an angel, very inspirational, and I seriously can't believe he only arrived with you in March, seems like he was born to be the gentle giant of a famous castle!

Anonymous

I absolutely agree with you! I think it is very vital that these concerns can be raised and that anyone who has them feels welcome to do so. I personally am 100% fine with the patreon funds going to the less glamorous and visible parts of the chateau restoration and management. Those small changes will make all the difference. Perhaps after b&b operations return to normal in earnest that all can be revisited, but for now, it really all goes to the same place

As patreon is a tool to support creators i wonder why people feel the need to demand where the money gets spent. I know that all of us love the chateau, but Patreon is a tool to support stephanies creativity! I think it is nice of stephanie to set chateau related targets, but in what way she uses the money is in the end up to her. I agree that setting no targets at all would give the focus back to this amazing vlog content and its creation. And isn`t it absolutely fabulous that in this time of crises stephanie is able to employ new people that love and support the chateau and her work. Dear Stephanie, i thank you very much for the love you spread around the world and this new interview series is awesome!

Anonymous

Julie, that's the deal with Patreon. You have to set monthly goals. You can't just do pie in the sky goals without any guidelines.

Anonymous

Mummy is a holy terror on her new mower! *lol* I hope she gets better at it. :)

Anonymous

To add to others points. My contribution is given without any expectations of where and what you spend it on.

Anonymous

Exactly my thoughts. I had to leave the Facebook group. I completely understand that people become passionate and invested in story of the chateau but find it incredulous that they forget this is, first and foremost, Stephanie’s home. People discussing what needs to be done and asking the group if an archaeological dig should be done at the mill along with other things feels really invasive to me. I know that on the whole people mean well but I worry that this misplaced enthusiasm could spoil the long term for Stephanie and the Lalanders. Maybe Nick’s caution is wise.

Anonymous

I think, dont set targets, just buy what you need to and surprise us.

Anonymous

My contribution, like so many others, is given without any expectations of where and what you spend it on. Of course paying someone to run the Bed and Breakfast, events so you can restore, repair , decorate and prepare videos is an incredibly smart decision!!

Anonymous

I donate simply to have more opportunities to "visit" Lalande. You do what you like with the money - I've loved your ideas so far. No strings attached from me. :-)

Anonymous

I just became a patron of both you and Michael's. No expectations...you will always do what is best for the Chateau and those lovely people that surround and help support you.❤

Anonymous

Hi Stephanie I became a Patron to support you and all the wonderful things you are doing at Lalande and there are absolutely no expectations from me - you do absolutely what you want. I really hope that one day I just get to be a guest at your wonderful Chateau B&B.

Anonymous

I thought last night's vlog concerning Monet was fabulous; culturally informative and a feast for the eyes _ not to mention food, quite literally for thought! Merci!

Anonymous

Patron funds are almost to $19K. How wonderful.

Anonymous

United States Yes, last night video was great. Those bakery pastries drove me crazy. I so wanted a taste. lol TODAY

Anonymous

Anonymous

i think these ones are the chateau diaries at is very best!

Anonymous

Can a target be getting Mary Poppins extra days?? So others can concentrate on renovations? Or.... the one I covet for you most.... an assistant!!😁💕

Anonymous

Oh I dont think that lovely man is going anywhere😁💕

Anonymous

I totally agree. Also MP for forcing Stephanie to start the vlogs, the people from Chateau DIY, you name it - this ghosty is ON IT😁😁😁

Anonymous

I know, I just had another look now. Woohoo!! I think there is always a little flurry of activity when another vlog comes out. 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

I knew I would love Selmar even more

Anonymous

I so enjoyed your interview with Selmar! He affectionately mentioned his mother who must be very, very proud of him. I know I would be if he were my son. He is a hard working, multi-talented, creative, kind, and intelligent young man who has astute and profound observations on life. Best wishes from California.

Anonymous

Enjoyed this very much. A future suggestion for patrons would be Gerry reading Scottish poetry and Gerry and Tomaz singing a duet. :)

Anonymous

Selmar (my Taurus brother) you are just delightful my friend! I really respect that you’ve always made a point to ‘see’ and help others that are differently-abled and perhaps overlooked by most people. I’ve always done that myself, and my life has been so much richer for it. I also admire the fact that you embrace your uniqueness and apparently have since childhood - that’s so wonderful. It takes a lot of people late into their life to embrace who they truly are, and some never do which is very sad. Your art is lovely, and your craftsmanship around the castle is very impressive. Lalande is lucky to have you there. :)

Anonymous

Woohoo $19k 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

Anonymous

19000$ Now, Gerrys apartment? 😍👍🏻

Anonymous

That is a great question for Stephanie- I would love to know her long term vision for LaLande.

Anonymous

Wow, brilliant £19k 👍

Anonymous

Holy merde ,19,000 yay

Anonymous

Yayy 19k! Congrats Natalia! And ofcourse to stephanie too. 💃

Anonymous

Patron reward idea (contingent upon Nic's un-coerced consent): podcast of Stephanie, Ollie, and Nic! Just love the banter of old friends.

Great interviews

Anonymous

Congratulations on the 19000 mark!!

Anonymous

Just saw the $19,000 mark was reached, congratulations. Next target maybe for the whimsical chicken coops?

Anonymous

When is the next interview?

Anonymous

These interviews are amazing! I love the depth, it honestly brings tears to my eyes.

Anonymous

A question I'd like to see added is what bedroom does the person stay in, and which is their favorite room at the chateau.

Anonymous

For the $20,000 target I would love to see your bedroom dressing room be transformed how you have been dreaming especially now that the fabric has arrived

Anonymous

Why not ask the elusive Nic and Michael Potts for help to decide on ideas for more Chateau targets? ( Maree and Antoin May have some ideas of their own...)

Anonymous

I love that you are doing this from a fancy couch with a view of your toilet :-)

Anonymous

Selmar is simply awesome! Loved this interview and Diesel!

Anonymous

Stacee - you said everything I was thinking. He's not only multi-talented, but Selmar is also a truly good person.

Wonderful interview! Such a talented man! Love hearing about each person's life experiences. Selmar is an inspiration! We all have to find our niche in life where we feel most creative, needed and calm!

Dan Ruggiero

Anonymous

I love Selmar. He seems such a lovely gentle soul 💜

Anonymous

Truly enjoyed this interview with Selmar! All the questions are perfect😊🌟

Anonymous

I'm absolutely fine with you using Patreon money for anything. In comparison to other creators, you are very strict with how you spend the money, and way more transparent with where the money goes. In general, I feel like it's fairly understood that Patreon is meant to support the creators in however they decide to use it.... But it's very honorable of you to put forth these guidelines and follow them. But just know, you can't please everyone, and someone will always have something to say.

Anonymous

Sweet soul, and very much is own person..........also I can so relate to the need to work with ones hands and the joy in the solitude of creating. Rock on Selmar hope you stay there as long as you want. You compliment the chateau.

Anonymous

We really enjoyed this interview with Selmar and to get to know him better. We liked Selmar from the start .... and we find him even more interesting now. In the beginning, I kept wishing Selmar would stay on for a while. We are very happy to hear that he would like to stay and hopes to be there in 10 years. This is wonderful news. In 10 years’ time, we will all be older but you folks will still be younger. We wish all at Lalande every Happiness and Success. We became patrons so we could see this interview with Selmar and we were not disappointed. Happy that we are now full-time patrons!

Anonymous

I think Selmar would be called an Industrial Designer these days. My daughter studied at university and graduated as an Industrial Designer currently working in exhibition design for a science museum.

Anonymous

That was a lovely interview with Selmar. He's always seemed a bit mysterious so it was nice to hear his story. And fabulous shoes!

Anonymous

I can't wait to watch this!

Anonymous

This was the interview that prompted me to become a Patreon - my very first introduction to Lalande was as they entered Lockdown so Selmar has always been part of it for me - i was so interested to know more about the people who are living/visting often- Selmar- such creativity, adaptability, personal insight - great addition to the team

Anonymous

Agree! He is so interesting and talented, I just needed to know more. So happy to be a new (today!) Patreon.

Anonymous

A kind and charming man, The Chateau seems to attract wonderful, kind, gentle souls!

Anonymous

Love Selmar (and Diesel too)! He really belongs at Lalande - so happy he found his way there - and looking forward to many of his collaborations with the residents.

Anonymous

Wonderful. Love Selmar

Anonymous

Absolutely fascinating interview with Selmar. I really loved what he said about his strength being his weakness also, it really made me look at myself. I knew he was talented but seeing his art was a real treat. Hopefully we can see even more of his creativity. I love the way he fits at the chateau, what an old place with it's many quirks needs is a creative problem solver. He's a perfect fit!

Anonymous

Loved this interview, thank you Selmar. Also touched by the way that on mention of classical music towards the end, the opera singing restarted in the background.

Anonymous

You are working in symbiosis. Thank you!!

Anonymous

stephanie i have been wanting to join your patreon for awhile because i love watching your friends and family....but when i saw you had an interview with selmar on your patreon page that was it for me......i had to see that interview!....he is the most amazing man and you are so lucky to have him!

Anonymous

Stephany! Selmar is your prince charming! He has wisdom without reading books, it shows his deep spirituality and your mom was right that he was sent by heaven to you!

Jane Nunn

You won't be interrupted in your bathroom ! hahaha no one will find you ! haha

Anonymous

Nice to hear about Selmars past and it really explains his rich craftsmanship and knowledge he has as a builder and I loved the Fokker stories you both had (small world eh ?) since my father worked for Icelandair and was in charge of the airplane buying, so he dealt a lot with Fokker and it's employes and many became good friends with him - I also read the autobiography of Fokker which was translated into Icelandic and my father had a copy which he later gave to the sales representative of Fokker as a gift.

Anonymous

Great interview with Selmar!! But I feel badly for Stephanie for having to give such a detailed explanation as to why she used Patreon funds to pay Natalia’s salary during Covid. In my opinion becoming a patron means helping financially with all aspects of the Chateau, even though renovations would be the first priority. There is a massive operation going there, I am happy to have my contribution go to whatever is needed most, even if it is operations rather than renovations. The key here is Stephane’s openness and honesty. It makes being a patron easy and safe, clearly she can be trusted to make the best decisions with the funds.

Anonymous

Selmar is a lovely soul, and Stephanie I am very happy for you to use as you see fit. You are so open and thoughtful, happy with any idea. X

Anonymous

I agree. Bottom line is that all aspects make the chateau better. It’s a domino effect.

Jodi and Scott Barck

I just had to say how much I loved this. I'm late to comment but this was very nice. Nice to hear from you Selmar
