Stephanie, i hv to let u know that there is a glitch in patreon android app. When i click on your video from the patreon app the video opens in youtube and one can easily share that link to non patreons and they can watch it as well. I dont know if its something you should look into.

Yes, i was wondering that. Because sometime somewhere somebody said they can offset the repairs and maintenance against the chateau income. Another question for the chateau accountant which would make the tax seem not so horrendous.

A couple of quick questions: How long is Oliver staying? (It is so nice to see him again!). I know that he is going to be doing an Artists' Workshop. Will you be doing a vlog about his workshop? The target board was spot on for this vlog Stephanie. I was wondering where we were at, so you more than delivered. And it will be good to see it from time to time. You could have a separate more permanent board of targets delivered. Maybe once a year of what we have achieved together in that year. I will love to see your Venetian journey via the Orient Express - such an old-fashioned idea of luxury! And the perfect way to source the chandelier for the entrance hall. You have mentioned that the chateau is heated geothermally. Would love to see Venice vlogs as that would be so exciting. I want to thank you for the presentation and explanation of how everything works with Patron percentage and also the taxes that you have to pay, which in my opinion is highway robbery. Marie must be the nicest person on the face of the planet...I dont know ANYBODY else who would either agree to their husband paying and taking another woman on a holiday especially on a wedding anniversary. I think Marie has a huge halo and if only the rest of us were so gorgeous. Hello Catrin. I’m adding this as a reply to your comment but please don’t be offended, it’s not a dig at you it’s that your comment offers me an opportunity to ask a general question partly in jest, but also partly seriously. I’ve seen quite a few comments now from ladies, mainly during YouTube premiere chats but also occasionally here, commenting on the attractiveness and or appearance of Selmar, Tomaz, The Goat Farmer etc., and now today Oliver. The thing is, if similar comments by were being made by men about the women in the vlogs they would rightly be considered as inappropriate, even more so in today’s #metoo era, so I find myself asking why its OK for women to make these types of comments about the men when it would really not be OK the other way around?

I just have to say, first or all, that discovering your channel just under a month or so ago is by far the BEST thing that's happened this year, Stephanie! I've been binging so many episodes for the past few weeks and I just can't get enough. You, mummy, Scottman, Selmar, the elusive Nic, Tomaz, all of the Ians (humans and peachicks like) and the rest of the Lalanders have brought so much positivity and joy into my (because of the state the world is in right now) pretty disappointing year. So I just want to say thank you a million times over for all the videos, all the fun you share with all of us and the inspiration you bring ❤ I really can't thank you enough for it. May I asked who made all the jars of jams or preserves in the room where your mother was looking for whisky? I have spent a lot of my furlough learning how to make preserves of various types and wishing I had a lovely cool place to store them..looks like I need to buy a chateau to get a room like yours!! I'd love to go to Venice so will thoroughly enjoy another vlog from there, Nick & Marie are angels for inviting you on their special trip. I did comment on one of the very first videos, but forgive me repeating myself (there have been that many comments since its probably buried!!!!!!) Have you considered turning some of the stable courtyard buildings into workshop spaces for people to rent, either permanent artisans to work from, or people to hold workshops in? Have you ever considered creating yourself a sewing room rather than having your things dotted around the chateau and having to clear tables to use? And finally you'd mentioned in a vlog about Percy and vintage cars (can't remember exactly what it was!!!) Have you ever been to the Circuits des ramparts in Angouleme? If not I can highly recommend it, even if you're not a fan of the racing just seeing all the vintage cars lining all the streets on the Sunday is amazing.

Absolutely to a vlog of your next trip to Venice, your trio of videos from your last trip are some of my favs. Your ability to include history with the beauty of La Serenissima is a true talent. I do have a question for your next chat - where is the chapel on the list of targets? I just saw the stained glass window. Well I did vote for the dogs, though I secretly wanted the balcony plans, but I voted as I must vote in my own old house in constant need of repair: Practicality. :/ I'd love to vote for myself to get our old pool (which is currently an old hole filled with cut up downed trees and bits of it's old glory still in tact (like the wall filters lol) but instead today the workmen are finally here to put in the new waterline from the old well to the Hall, so that we might have water that does not come in from an old house attached to the boathouse apartment, also LOL. As much as I LOVE donkeys you have so much else to keep up with and Donkeys need a lot of care and attention. One day when your home is on it's way to being completed ( but with chateaux is that ever possible! ) you can work on other projects like this. A friend of mine had several donkeys that he saved and as they were free to roam it wasn't unusual to have one pull you hair as you sat readin inside the house !! He also had geese who pecked at our feet inside also and I won't get into the swallows that nested in the corners! huggsss

PLEASE do a vlog about the Orient Express. Always wanted to do it myself. And a Murano chandelier would be incredible! Were you ever able to check out Whistler's Peacock room. Original in Wash. D.C. I jsut looked up the 'arret de volet' on ebay and they sell for 19 euros a pair. That said I had them on my last house and leaning out to clip them was very perilous! In my present house there is another system that you can access from much closer. Maybe use the antique type on ground floor windows and a different type for the upstairs. Just a suggestion as I do have souvenirs of bruised ribs trying to manipulate them from inside. Sometimes they are so over painted they stick too. xoxo

I have a question for next week’s Q and A session. :) In the Chateau Diaries 107 video, you and Michael Potts visited a beautiful art gallery - I believe in South Africa - and showed several pieces that appeared to all be by the same artist. They all had beautiful woodland creatures and flowers. Do you know the artist’s name? My husband and I loved their work and would like to purchase some if possible. Question for this week's Q&A: Stephanie, have you got a fire suppression system in the chateau? I believe I have seen smoke detectors, but not heat-activated sprinkler heads in the attic and each room to douse a fire. Where I live in California they are required in homes. I am concerned because Notre Dame de Paris would have survived if a fire suppression system had been installed. Let’s do better for LaLande!

I have always been a Francophile. A first visit to Paris at the tender age of 14 determined my plan to attend Junior Year Abroad, (Rouen, 1972-73). At the moment the money is classed as a personal income and when you add Patreon and the income from YouTube together, it easily puts Stephanie into the top tax bracket. Personal income in France is charged as follows, up to 10,000 nil, 10-25,000 11%, 25-72,000 30%, 72-156,000 41%, 156,000+ 45%. So as an average you are maybe looking at 30% of the amount having to be paid as tax! But hopefully her accountant will find some loopholes....

I used to own a an 1850s craftsman mansion in Denver and loved learning from the elders in the neighborhood about it's history as a speak easy during prohibition and the model T Fords driving the cow paths to get to the house for music, dancing, and drink during those early years. One for the Q&A... can you explain why the tax position on Patreon funds is as it is in France... and why you can’t run it out of UK or another country if not France as a charity account ... As Patreons most will have paid tax already on the donation so in fact it’s being double taxed... plus as you’ll know a charity in the UK can reclaim gift aid... so 10k can become 12k... whereas looks like in France 10k becomes 5.2k... maybe worth spending a little with the accountant or tax specialist to see if there is a way to improve the position as it would more than double your Patreon income for work on the chateau... Hi Stephanie, I'm restoring a large house here in Ireland called Laurentinum House so I can understand your excitement at getting things done. I know many months, if not years, can pass when there is a lull and there is no progress which is really really frustrating. And as I also know a project could start off being one price and suddenly there are other elements that have to be done and paid for before the project is started, nor to mind complete. This especially relate to restoration projects. May I suggest for the Render. You can do it in sections. I know you said do half the tower and leave the rest of it but I really do think it is a good idea to do it all at once - like you say, the lime mortar is just that much better for the building. So you can do the Tower as one project then one whole wall as another and go from there.

Please pass on to mummy! On the last gift opening, you got seeds for bee balm, it’s basically the herb bergamot. General it has scarlet red flower and smells wonderful, it does well growing with fennel and comes back every year. A leaf popped into your earl grey tea is bliss and you can make a bergamot syrup, which is great in so many cocktails or even in a fruit salad. Oh oh oh and as the name tells you, the bees go mad for it.....

I’m delighted we’ve reached the next target. I have been so inspired by the vlog during lockdown. Would love to see some footage from the OE but also think you deserve a bit of a break and a proper holiday as it’s been so full on for you every single day. I made a comment about the high tax and live in Canada. We have access to free medical care. Paying 48% tax on income is much too high and bringing in an accountant to look at ways to reduce the tax bill would benefit the Chateau immensely.

How to defer costs... Well, if there is some part or piece of a project (like shutter dogs) that patrons could purchase (through Amazon or whatever vendor) and send to you??? Don’t worry too much about the delay in the installation of the double glazing for as long as it comes in September which is a good time to arrive before the winter. I have a question Stephanie! I saw in one of Selmar's "arrival" photos, to the right of the fountain on the front of the 16th century part of the chateau, at least one filled-in door and window on the front of that building. Can you comment on some of the visible changes that have been made over the years on the outside of the chateau, what they look like from the inside, and why they may have been modified if known? Steph I would love to follow your adventures on the Orient Express. Have you ever thought about a trip to Sicily my favorite TV show is Inspector Montalbarno and not only is the landscape breathtaking but also buildings and interiors. From the outside some of the house's look a little run down but inside it's like walking into a chateau with the high ceilings beautiful interiors. Sicily is so rich in history with Greek ruins , beautiful churches and strange Palermo catacombs. I think you would get so many ideas for Lalande maybe Gerry could take you for your next holiday adventure together.

When the student comes to work on the project of non-impact energy generation from your lake (if I'm remembering the project you spoke about right), you should have them take a look at the old mill and see if it would be possible to use it for hydro-electric! It may be a project a long way off, but now's a great time to think about how you'd like to use the mill and have it working for Lalande. It probably wouldn't generate a lot of energy, but combined with the solar panels it would certainly help with your electric bills!

Just a suggestion! You need to push the like and subscribe button on Your vlogs on YouTube, it truly helps the algorithm to suggest your channel to other people. You 100% need to have a chat with a tax advisor, if the chateau is owned by a SCI (Which I assume it is) you can have the funds deposited to the SCI Tax free and also take advantage of the other tax breaks for owners.
