Hey guys!

First off, just to let you know, looks like the longform Hitman piece I talked about a while ago will be up by this weekend! Currently clocking in at 57 minutes and 10000 words after aggressive editing... hopefully you'll enjoy it!

The main reason I'm posting today, however, is the fact that occasionally I check my video manager to find YouTube has turned ads on for my channel again without my knowledge. Obviously I won't get shown ads for my own content, and I don't really check analytics much, so it's hard for me to know without going into settings.

Decided to check my ad revenue page and found that I'd made a bit of money in the time where ads were turned on. It wasn't a whole lot, but more than expected and whilst it wasn't intentional, it'll be a nice boost for me this month given that I've been worrying a lot about money lately.

Which is why I want to ask the question (and this is a question I'm only asking you guys)—how would you feel if I were to turn ads back on for the channel? It's a question I'm super scared to ask and feel free to tell me I'm being an asshole for it.

The reason I'm nervous about asking is that I know that the original goal for the Patreon was to take ads off the channel—that's because I honestly never expected it to grow to the point it has. I never thought I'd make a cent from YouTube, or even come close to the support you guys have given me on here.

Now that the channel has grown, however, and that I've been pursuing writing as something of a career, I've started to wonder if there's a point I could get to where I do this writing thing full time. It would mean I could spend even more time researching the videos and ensuring the quality is as high as possible. I'm certainly not going to make massive amounts from ads (Patreon will always be the main source of income for the channel), but like I say, it was genuinely a nice boost to see and made my fairly constant financial strains a little easier to bear this month.

If I were to turn ads on though, don't worry, nothing else about the channel, the Patreon or anything else will change.

I just don't know if this is me being greedy or not—feel free to tell me if it is (I ain't trying to be like DSP here). Obviously if you guys aren't cool with it then of course that's the road I'll take. You guys have put your trust in me by supporting me—that is something I am unbelievably grateful for and I don't ever want to betray that trust in any way. I certainly won't be pissed off or anything if you say no. I just thought I'd be upfront with you about my thoughts. Just know, this is absolutely your call.

If I were to turn ads back on though, just know that of course I'd obviously be cool with people using Ad Blocker or whatever, that's not even a thing. I wouldn't be bothered if anyone used it, but especially you guys seeing as you're already supporting me. I suspect that most of you use it anyway, but just know that it's never something I'd hold against anyone (hell, I use it myself). Maybe I'm worrying about nothing. I like to think those original patrons were pledging for reasons other than simply "GET THESE ADS OFF THIS CHANNEL" but who knows!

So yeah, that's my weird, nervous spiel to you guys I suppose. Please let me know what you think and know that I love you all and cannot thank you enough for your continued support.

I look forward to what you have to say!

Hamish

I say go for it. I know money is hard to come by and I really want to see this channel grow.

Bit late to weigh in on this, but I basically agree with all those who say go for it. Extra income helping you out is no bad thing! And thank you for being up front and honest with us, that means a heck of a lot.
