Kinkaku and Ginkaku is an old folklore. There is also an episode of the original Dragonball series that these characters are directly influenced by, if not carbon copies. I wouldn’t watch the Dragonball episode as it would be spoilers, but maybe check it out after this battle. Neat little thing.

Back when Danzo died there was a flashback to Danzo, Sarutobi, Sarutobi's wife, the two village elders and the Second Hokage. It was the scene when the second told Sarutobi to become the Third Hokage before going back to sacrifice himself fighting the enemy to buy time for the others to escape. It was mentioned then that it was Kinkaku and Ginkaku that they were fleeing from. As well as a bunch of cloud jonin.

lol a week later but Sarutobi's wife isn't in the group- we see her really briefly in another flashback later, but team Tobirama was Sarutobi, Danzo, the two elders (Koharu and Homura), an Uchiha (Kagami) and an Akamichi (Torifu)
