Welp here it is.

Can we get the double drop to make up for this episode?

ToySouljah

One of LOST greatest mystery was solved thanks to this episode.

Derek Garrard

Forgive me, but I'm just gonna let this link stay unclicked. I just can't do it.

Tiffany Tews

I erased *that* part of this episode from my memory. This was painful

I was expecting a double-drop, considering how bad this episode is... :(

This episode isn't as bad as people made it out to be. The fanbase was just really tilted with how the writers were spinning their wheels and had no plan for the series. If you removed the flashbacks it'd be a good episode. It's really just the bs in the flashbacks that aren't any good.

Hate on the episode all you want, it's the first time we got to hear "Ocean's Apart." One of the best pieces of music in the whole series.

This was the episode that triggered the show's creators to go to ABC and negotiate a timetable for the rest of the show. They were starting to run out of ideas to continue to extend a show that didn't have a scheduled end. After this episode, they got the deal they wanted, an unprecedented deal in network television. Three seasons guaranteed, 16 episodes each. Of course the writers' strike screwed up season 4 a little but ABC was very accommodating when it came to this show.

David Caine

Exactly. The negotiations happened because of this episode, and Damon and Carlton going to ABC and going, "See? We need an end date to plan the rest of the series." This was in TV Guide or Entertainment Weekly in an interview. And in another first, the end date was then announced, and they wouldn't have to stall the story anymore.

Where can we send our fisticuffs to accept the challenge, Suraj? To defend the episode's non-honor 🤼

Far, far from the worst episode, this one, even if disjointed. Fire + Water for sure, maybe Everybody Hates Hugo maybe not, Further Instructions is as bad as this one too, What Kate Did was a very sloppy episode at a couple of points, you could even see the horse trainer's hand in the original broadcast. Maybe some season 1 episodes too were worse. I would say though that the flashbacks are the least relevant, even though that was the theme of the season, "Who you really are as a person?" The season 3 promos, my favorite is the last one narrated by Ben: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncmL1ITR01U I don't think any upcoming episodes are worse than this one though.

Giacchino is amazing. The use of it throughout the finale got me every time

I actually enjoy Everybody Hates Hugo. I agree with the rest though. I would also nominate Expose. Least relevant episode of fucking everything ever.

When my girlfriend had me watch Lost for the first time back in high school, I remember LOVING this episode. lol. To give context, though, we binged the series. Watched the whole thing in like 5 sittings during a holiday break xD. I identified heavily with Jack though at the time, and when the meaning of his tattoo was revealed I felt like it spoke directly to me. For that reason, it's possible that I've always looked back on this episode with rose colored goggles. Idk. This will be my first time re-watching since all those years ago though, so let's see! Edit: I don't get it. lol. I still thought it was a really good episode this time around! Where does the hate come from? The tattoo is literally Jack's character trope on the show: The Lonely Leader. Jack's character is like a walking, breathing example of the quote "Greatness is a blessing and curse." and that's what this episode is about. I think it was great xD. The only legitimate reason to hate this episode is if, when the series was airing live, it came at a really bad time in terms of pacing. That I can definitely understand. But the episode itself? The two things I catch myself doing while watching the flashbacks in this ep: 1. *sigh* 2. *shakes head*

They had a plan. That's why they had to spin their wheels.
