Hello, everyone! I hope this Thursday is treating you as well as a Thursday in 2020, the Nurse Ratched of years, can be expected to treat anyone.

Two notes of interest to some or all of you before I disappear into the last chapters of this bloody stubborn book!

One, the annoying PBS/NPR pledge-drive style barfyness we must engage in so we can live to eat another day:

Patreon has launched Annual Subscriptions, so you can lock in a whole year of benefits at one go and not worry about monthly anythings. If you sign up for a year, you'll get a 10% discount (so a Mad Technician tier patronage, which would normally come out to $60 a year, would only cost you $54). I wouldn't recommend this if you like to go up and down over various months depending on whether a particular reward appeals to you, but it's there if you want it!

Two, more fun:

I'll be "in conversation with Jeff Vandermeer, author of the Southern Reach Trilogy and City of Saints and Madmen, tonight at 6:30pm PST/9:30pm EDT! Jeff has been one of my mentors since before my first book came out, and this is our first public event together! You have to sign up, but that's only so we don't get Zoom bombed because the world is terrible and it keeps happening to authors.

So RSVP and come watch us here: https://www.booksincommonnw.com/upcoming-events/jeff-vandermeer-amp-catherynne-valente-in-conversation

Interesting conversation with Vandermeer. Just one thing that threw me for a loop: who leaves their butter out? Is that a regional thing? Now that I'm in Maine, am I supposed to be a butter-in or a butter-out person? Help me! I want to conform! lol.
