Fargo REACTION

The thing about this movie is: it's kinda bleak, from a certain point of view... but by and large, the bad things that happen happen to bad people. Maybe the father-in-law didn't deserve to die, but if he wasn't such a prick, things could've been resolved without violence. The people you should be cheering for are the Gundersons, Marge and Norm (Marge much more so than Norm, of course, but they've got a pretty healthy relationship). Pity what happened to Jean Lundergaard; she was innocent, but she was the only one. I also love how the tv show tied into the movie, very elegant. Finally: this movie was made by the Coen brothers. I'm not a huge fan of theirs, but they're really talented; most of their movies need a 2nd or 3rd viewing to really appreciate. I wouldn't strongly recommend anything else by them (although there are several worth watching; just not, you know, a STRONG recommendation), except for "The Big Lebowski". It's a really weird, funny, kinda pointless movie... it's a bit meandering, if you're watching it and are really focused on the story, you may not find it too satisfying (although it wraps up in a satisfactory manner). It's about the journey. Kind of a comedic take on noir movies. And the humor is based entirely on what happens in the movie, no pop culture references, so the comedy ages remarkably well, IMO. It might be my favorite comedy of all-time.
