Hello everyone!

Earlier this morning we sent out links for V0.04 of Malise and the Machine, only to find out that there was a major bug in the game.  We pulled the links,  and have sent out new links to a fixed version (V0.041).  If you had missed the pledge deadline and sent your pledge another way, then I'll be sending your new links soon.

The good news is that those who had already downloaded and started playing should be able to use their saves with the new fixed version (you'll know it's working because there will actually be battles in the new areas; specifically the red areas).  For those that don't want to play through the V0.03 content again, I will be posting a save later today near the end of the V0.03 content that is compatible with the new V0.041 version.

For those wondering, V0.03 and Public Demo saves are not compatible with the latest version.  We hope to create a solution for this down the road so that future versions can use older saves, but none exists yet.

For patrons pledging $15 or higher, you'll receive the PDF artwork reward in a few days in a separate message.  We unfortunately had to put that on the back burner to get the game ready in a timely-ish manner.

As I mentioned above, later on today I'll make a more comprehensive release post, including the change log and details for patrons pledging $40 or more.

As always, thanks for your continued support, and we apologize for the inconvenience earlier this morning!

- Eromancer

Note: Apologies if you had commented on the previous thread.  I removed the post to avoid confusion.

Velgarn

So how does exactly someone send a pledge in a different way? I've changed mine to the 10$, still i don't know how to give you the actual money (so far i've been only charged for the old pledge and that's it)

Sam

Alright so now that this corrected version is out (Thank you for that, can finally see the new enemy too! :D). Would anyone be willing to divulge the solution to the puzzle? Someone said something about being able to see permanent fuses somewhere, but i havent found those panels, only those that need repairs and the temporary ones from the puzzle. Some clarification would be dearly appreciated.

eromancer

Hey Velgarn! Sorry for making you post twice. I forgot to respond to your question before deleting the old post :(. Patreon only collects money for this project at the beginning of a month that a release is made. For this version that was at the beginning of May. If you could, send me a message as a reminder and I'll get back with you about how to get a pledge to me another way.

Cereliona

Oh dear, I seem to have come down with a severe case of MatM-itis. I think I need to leave work early.

Anonymous

Concerning the save issues, you might want to get in touch with the devs at "Hreinn Games" on Patreon. They have done a pretty good job in the past releasing new versions of their game while keeping saved games from older versions working. <a href="https://www.patreon.com/hreinngames?ty=c">https://www.patreon.com/hreinngames?ty=c</a>

Jamie C.

But if it is any consolation that game worked wonders before The bug. It was beautiful and I love the story addons you guys did it made me cry with joy this game has alot of depth and I hope you will continue it in the same manner as you already have. I am so very happy to be patron. please keep up the good work the story is intresting and thats whats been hooking me into the game. Neon is still a badass.

AltairPL

Thanks for the tip... we have our own solution in mind and it is partially implemented, but for now making saves compatible between major versions would require a lot of our time to monitor all the changes and to code updating old saved games on load, not to mention that loading the game could be much slower in some cases. For now it's just not feasible, considering that saved data are changed very often and sometimes scope of those changes is huge. We're aware that this may be inconvenient, but we want to wait till data saved with the game will be closer to their final form, before starting using it between major versions. That said, saves from 0.04 are working in 0.041 thanks to something similar.

Downloading now -- can't wait to see what you glorious bastards have put together.

Kurowscar

So wait, we don't get Malise from the beginning anymore? That makes the game like 200% harder. Fighting those flying worm things that attack in packs is nearly impossible with just one character.

Martin

You find circuit boards in the "puzzle maze". You use the circuit boards on one of the 6 panels in the...uhm..."panel room". Then, once it's activated, you use a fuse on the panel. 5, 10 or 20. The fuse can be removed, but as long as it's in, the fuse's value is permanent and works on the puzzle doors.

Martin

So I keep searching the puzzle maze, but even though I've reached the top, secured the escape exit, and seem to have found all the items that's possible to find, I can't for the life of me figure out how to find the cause of the monsters (monster's nest?). I'm on my wit's end here. Any help?

AltairPL

Ummm, have you tried accessing the 'non-operational gate in the puzzle maze (the one in the room the robot flees down into after the "A 05 door")' from the other side? Checked it just now and it works just fine.

eromancer

They're actually the same as in V0.03. Malise was only added to the public demo for the sake of showing off gameplay with both characters (but enemies were actually buffed). What makes them harder this time around however is that skills can now miss or be evaded. The enemies you're referring to have a high evade, making it worse. Balancing is very fluid right now, so don't accept that anything you see is final. If something seems way too hard, it's probably not your imagination :D. Don't forget you can escape though.

Kurowscar

Suggestion: Decrease frequency of fleshfather attacks. Him having the ability to interrupt/restrain/attack all at once is incredibly overpowered when fighting with just Neon and having a 1 to 1 charge ratio makes it nearly impossible to counter. Also struggle seems to be failing 99% of the time regardless of the amount of lust.

Kurowscar

Constant struggle fail+No way to reduce lust+tentacle+no energy=stun lock that's impossible to counter. : /

Anonymous

So I got the NV goggles but I'm completely lost on what to do from here- I feel like I've gone through every possible solution to the puzzle maze but stil l still can't find the circuit boards.

Martin

I don't remember exactly where, but they're found in chests, around the 35-doors, I think.

Cereliona

At level 3, Neon is faster than him. Fight him on Active and watch him. Don't attack as soon as you get your turn. If he starts charging a skill, counter it. If he attacks, just attack back. Beat him without healing and without getting grabbed using that strategy.

Esimio

where is penetrating oil? i can go only to the 25-doors!

Kurowscar

I don't understand this puzzle. I can't get the right fuses to complete it and I don't know where this oil is.

Anonymous

Downloaded 0.041 and it appears to be missing several audio files (Cursor2.mp3 Buzzer1.mp3) Will download an older version to see if the missing files are there but might be worth looking into. Update: I'm not sure why but my copy can't seem to find any of the Sound Effects audio files for the menu interactions. I'm just putting in filler sounds but I've had it crash and had to replace about 7 sounds now. Even the public demo appears to be having the same problem and it worked perfectly fine before.

Anonymous

Can someone upload a save after the puzzle? I'm so frustrated by it and I really don't feel like grinding for all those 10 amp fuses over and over again

Anonymous

Got error "Script 'Game_Enemy' line 375: NoMethodError occured. ndefined method 'release_hold' for nil:Nilclass"

Anonymous

I liked the new additions though I found that the puzzle was a lot of trial and error. It took me pretty much exactly 4 hours to beat the game from start to finish but a large portion of it is grinding for fuses. I think it would be less frustrating if you had a map you could mark off which rooms you had been to already.

Anonymous

If anyone is having trouble you can kind of get fuses easier once you unlock a couple circuit boards you can simply go through the rooms that are permanently unlocked and then come back through the red doors without using any fuses and the little robot will shit you some extra anyways.

Darthjake

Fuses, I'm not having a problem with, navigating the map, yeah. lol I have a question tho, this appears to be the 2nd chapter / episode. I would like to play through the 1st episode as well now that I'm a patreon. Is there any way I can get a link for that? Also when I played through the demo before, (what convinced me to support the project), I had Malise and Neon, now there is only Neon. Thanks and great game.

Kurowscar

The part with neon at the beginning is the first bit. They took Malise out because she was only there for the public demo to show off gameplay with both. But if you start a new game you start the very beginning.

Ashiel

Worth the wait. I managed to play through the first (e.g. buggy version that was taken down) release of 0.04, and despite a couple setbacks (a crash in the final battle, and what appears to be the possibility of running out of all fuses if you're not careful during the early parts of the "trial", I loved it).

Kurowscar

Could you shed some light on the puzzle bit? I just wanna get to the fun times. T_T

Darthjake

Ah cool Nick, thanks for the heads up.

Anonymous

Hi! Unfortunately, it's not working overhere :( "Unable to find VL Gothic font", first : clicking "ok", the game run. But when I want to start a new game or continue with a previous save, "Unable to find Audio/SE/Cursor2". Then the game crash. Any idea for fix that? Keep going on your great job, tho!

Anonymous

any1 kind enough to give us the steps for the puzzle?

Vesle Triumphant

So Frustrated by the maze puzzle. Found only 10 AMP Fuses. Nothing else. Keep GOing due to missing 60% of the time against all enemies, combine that with the lesser fleshfathers = GO. I literally just quit the game and restart it everytime I run into them cause I cannot hit them enough to kill them before getting caught. Edit: Main reason why I am frustrated is due to missing a crap ton with both characters. It seemed to stop after I found the first circuit board, at least for Neon. Malise only seemed to hit in the darkness without night goggles. Puzzle Solved. I still hate the fact that Malise seems for me to hit only 30% of the time. Not even in the afflicted darkness section (where she hit 100% of the time. WHY.) As soon as I got the first circuit board, puzzle is solved. Also those looking for penetrating oil, you need to do each door ONCE without entering any others a second time. You'll end up in a dark room for Power needed 25. Explore and you'll find it.

Anonymous

I'm still waiting for a response as to how this happened with my version as well. You can "Fix" it by going into the SE folder and putting in an mp3 with the name "Cursor2" (Preferably something short and quiet because it's going to be the sound when you select anything) The problem with this is that you'll have to replace all the menu interaction sounds one by one. I've run into ten or so at this point and am just waiting for a response because quite frankly it's a little tedious to have the game crash and have to go out, copy and rename a sound and insert it into the directory, go into the game and find another missing sound over and over. Hopefully they'll just release a hotfix with the missing audio files.

MartinX

Sigh, why on earth did anyone think it would be a good idea start this game by overwhelming the player with these fuse puzzles...The first one was alright, but this second one...I also remember seeing an old video of the game with some sort of town (has it been removed along with the human soldiers?) - that would have seemed like a better way to start the game, not just being thrown in a high tech dungeon with no backstory or context. I thought that dungeon area was chosen specifically for the free demo, but apparently that's where the game is actually supposed to start. I hope the rest of the game is not planned to be riddled with irritating puzzles in every new area and has some actual fun gameplay with exploration and stuff, like I would expect from an RPG game. Furthermore, this game was always advertised as having hentai as part of the gameplay, but to get to see the good scenes, you need to find enemies which damage your armor to tear it off first, and then wait for a specific attack which constricts you - if you somehow manage to survive long enough to see the scene, you are pretty much dead afterwards, especially with a group of enemies. In order to see the scenes for a certain enemy I usually have to move around until I find an armor damaging enemy, let him tear the armor off, then run away or kill it, heal afterwards, and finally find an encounter with the enemy I had in mind. Rinse and repeat every time you enter an ARIS unit and get your armor back. Quite a long process to get to see the hentai - if you want to simply progress and stay alive, you'll have to avoid every hentai attack like the plague and resist - otherwise you're dead. Hope this is also rebalanced in the future... Kind of disappointed for now, especially considering the price. I'll try to finish that puzzle later. Expected something more after 6 and a half months since the last official update, and I'm sure many others would agree - maybe open up a straw poll to check the general mood for the game right now?

Anonymous

For anybody having trouble with opening the big door after following the robot, the place you need to stand to open it is way back away from the door. It's more or less exactly in the middle of the turn. You gotta stand there and press Z to interact with a fuse on the ground, and that should start the event to open the door.

KatakiSenpai

All the players who beat the puzzle and respond to those asking help with it is trial and error just keep at it kinda pisses me off. Seriously no one wants this much of a challenge in what is mostly a fap game

Anonymous

Ok, I'm also stuck on that puzzle bit. I can get up to doors 25 but not a single 20 amp fuse has dropped for me to continue.

Anonymous

Am I missing something? O.O' (OK, I saw the 0, 2, 2 hint as part of going for A, C, C" but it didn't work. I'm not at all sure to what the solution is. :(

Kurowscar

I have to agree. I understand that people like Eromancer want to make a quality game. But the thing that attracts the most people is the quality of the porn, not the game. The quality of the art is fantastic imo, but this puzzle shit is frustrating and unnecessary. People just wanna fap yo.

Anonymous

Someone else had a game-breaker in 0.41, though I feel it important to clarify the nature of it: After defeating Ven and then reaching the lift at the start of the game, when the screen flashes and gunfire goes off (sounds like Ven's machine gun), the game is killed by an error "script 'Game_enemy' line 375: noMethodError occurred. Undefined method 'release_hold' for nil:class" After some testing, it appears to crash if one of the girls is in a grapple with the tentacle monsters on the lift. For what it's worth, seeing how 0.40 ends after this battle, if you want to play to the end: make sure neither of the girls are being... Washed, when you down the first tentacle gribbly. P.S. The circuit board puzzle is hard as balls; every room looks the same, which makes it hard to remember if I've already swept a room. Found the last circuit board by accident.

Kurowscar

I can't figure it out. In my game the puzzle goes from 5&gt;10&gt;15&gt;25. There's no such thing as a 15 amp fuse apparently, there's nothing in any of the rooms, getting to 25 is only possible by using the same doors twice and it's impossible to go any further because there's simply not enough terminals for the fuses you have. People keep speaking of this mystical oil you're supposed to get but it's not in any of the rooms. I just keep getting kicked out of the puzzle over and over and losing fuses for nothing. How are you supposed to be able to do this?

Anonymous

Demo was so disappointing for all the reasons you mentioned (and more, specifically the INVISIBLE ACTION TRIGGER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FLOOR) that I am unpledging. Will check it out in a year or so. Love the premise, but this demo was a big fail.

Anonymous

Been at this puzzle for a few hours. I'm frustrated and would like help on this. Where is the oil located? Please and thank you.

Kurowscar

No one is telling the location. This puzzle is literally impossible without it.

Kurowscar

The section about the penetrating oil doesn't make any sense. That's simply not possible.

Anonymous

The fuses add up as you keep going into the maze. For example, in the 1st room, you put 5 amp for Door A. If in the second room you add another 5 amp to Door A, you have 10 amp total in that door.

Ashiel

If nobody else does so before I, I'll replay the puzzle maze and give a comprehensive guide for the different locations. I for one actually loved the puzzle maze after I got a little further along with it, and even in "hardmode" with no fuse drops from enemies (no random encounters w/bots), I was fortunately about to complete it, so it's do-able. Until I can write a full guide, understand that going through different combinations of the doors will lead you to different rooms. The night-goggles are found using 2 B, 2 C, but you get different combinations; so going through 1 A, 1 B, 2 A would result in a different set of rooms than 1 A, 1 C, 2 A, and so forth.

Kurowscar

It doesn't matter about the combinations. Without the oil, you simply cannot go through more than two rooms. You just can't. Like seriously, It's outright impossible. You cannot do it with only 5 or 10 fuses. You absolutely HAVE to have the 20 fuses. But you can't get them without the oil, which is hidden somewhere that no one will explain how to get to.

Kurowscar

Also, why is Neon's chest armor invulnerable? I never understood that.

Anonymous

Indeed, I am also getting the (Script 'Game_Enemy' line 375: NoMethodError occured. undefined Method `release_hold' for nil:NilClass) crash as well.

Cereliona

Because she's a synthetic being, some portions of various frames are purely robotic in nature. Such as her chest and legs in this case. Some armors later on will give her different appearances, with different parts being destructible.

Darthjake

Ashley, I would appreciate that guide, I feel like I'm flailing about in the dark, and while I'm doing fine as far as the combat goes, it is a bit frustrating figuring out the correct path, I was even trying to map it out on hex paper, lol! Thank You,

Kurowscar

Dear god Eromancer if there's anything you take from this demo please no more puzzles. This is absolutely horrid. At the very least do some kind of vote/poll to see what the majority of your patrons think.

Cereliona

Perhaps there's a way to please both camps. Alternate routes that end up in the same room? One could maybe be a puzzle, and the other could be a gauntlet of enemies with no recovery time between battles. That way those who like puzzles can do them, and those who don't get a suitable combat related challenge instead?

Jamie C.

The puzzles are cool but maybe some clues to give you an idea and possibly a radar map or minimap would be really really helpful I got disorientated some many times because of the rooms being the same. Still I love the new update and probally play it over and over again till my eyes fall out.

Cereliona

I'll be home in a few minutes, and I'll jot down a guide on it when I'm in front of my computer.

AltairPL

Sorry, in the heat of the battle Eromancer forgot to include some info in the post, here's quote from previous post: "Malise and the Machine utilizes the RPG Maker VX Ace engine. To play, you must install the RPG Maker VX Ace RTP (run time package), which you can download and install for free from <a href="http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/download/additional/run-time-packages" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/download/additional/run-time-packages</a> (click the blue button at the bottom of the page to download)." Also, after installing RTP, please remove any files you created as they will block access to proper files.

Cereliona

Alright, since people are still stumped nearly a full day after the demo's out, I figured I'd give a hand with the puzzle. So, without further ado... I present to you Tom's Fusebox. The first goal of this is to pick up a circuit board. There are two that you have access to as soon as you walk into the room. AABB and AACC. These share the same method of access, which requires 1 5-amp fuse and 3 10-amp fuses. For simplicity's sake, I'll say we're going for AABB first. Walk up to the first terminal in the 5-amp room. Place a 10-amp fuse into A. Enter A. Now you're in the 10-amp room. Place a 5-amp fuse into B, then enter A again. Time for the 15 amp room, drop a 10-amp fuse into B, enter B, then repeat for the 25-amp room. In this room, there'll be a chest containing a Circuit Board. Take the board, then exit through the way you entered. Robot'll drop a few fuses for you. Walk upwards and insert the circuit board that you just picked up into one of the inactive terminals, then place a 10-amp fuse into A. Now head back upstairs and back into the puzzle room. Now, you want to go through each of the doors once. You'll need 2 5-amp fuses and 1 10-amp for this part. Insert a 5 into C, enter C. Next room, put the 10 into B, enter B. Now for the 15 room, put the remaining 5 into A and enter A. This room here contains both a circuit board and the penetrating oil. Grab both, give the robot the oil, then take a few minutes to get 3 10-amp fuses so you can trade it to the bot for a 20. Take the 20 and place it and a circuit board into C. Return to the puzzle room, now you can gain access to AACC for the low low price of 1 5-amp fuse. The A has 10 in it automatically now, so enter A twice. Enter C once in the 15-amp room, then place a 5 amp fuse into C to open the door. This room contains yet another circuit board and the Carbon Suit for Malise. Here I took the time to get 2 more 20-amps, placing 1 into B and replacing the 10 in A with a 20. Now you have 20 in each, and the rest of the rooms are easy to access. Make a quick stop in BBCC to pick up the NV Goggles, cause you're going to need em from here on out. From this point on, it's rather simple. AABBC, AACCB, and BBCCA all have circuit boards in them, and can be opened with 2 5s and a 10, depending on which one you choose to enter next, (Just make sure you have the fuses in before you're hitting the 25 and 35 rooms) with each one getting easier because they're dropping circuit boards to put more power into each letter.

Cereliona

Ok, seems this site doesn't let me separate the lines into paragraphs. That's irritating.

Kurowscar

So the stupidest fucking thing just happened. I was going through the rooms to get the boards and somehow as I ran up to the chest enemies spawned but I was still able to open the chest while going into combat which caused the game to bug out, prevent me from fleeing, and end up getting destroyed by two of the mini fleshfathers. Like, come on man. I literally just flee from those guys because fighting two at once is bullshit, for that to happen and erase all that progress is so fucking frustrating. I'm gonna do it again but that was shitty.

Anonymous

Im kinda sad that there isnt any hentai animation after you beat the boss, as there is in the first part ;/

Cereliona

It's called "Monster-in-a-box" in older Final Fantasy games.

Anonymous

Ok, I'll be honest: I think that Ol' Euromancer in creating puzzles actually made one too complex for us. (I've been trying to figure it out for 8 hours...I'll admit. I'm not very bright and I was making room maps and still failing. ;_;

Cereliona

I posted a guide just a little bit ago, it'll get you halfway through the circuit board collecting/item grabbing.

Cereliona

I'm not entirely surprised, as the only ones left in the lift at that point were Malise, Neon, and Ven. I would have liked to see something have it's way with Ven, but... that doesn't seem like something Malise or Neon prioritize.

Kurowscar

So I beat Ven..I think..? Is that it?

Darthjake

Another question, I can't equip the Solid Frame for Neon or the Carbon Suit for Malise? Will I be able to equip it later?

MartinX

You need to be in the ARIS unit for that. I was also confused the first time.

Darthjake

Heh, that helps, Thank You.

MartinX

Wasn't there an entire city area in an earlier demo? What happened to it? And are the human soldiers still around in this version?

Kurowscar

Okay so I'm fighting Ven for the second time and honestly man. Comparing this demo to the first one, the hentai to combat ratio is way off this time around. I appreciate the effort to make a challenging/fun game but the focus was WAAAY too gameplay heavy in my opinion. : /

Kurowscar

For fuck's sake the AoE spam is RIDICULOUS. WHY.

Shirafune

Good demo, but sadly most of it was freaking out cause of the puzzles and not so much excitement on the ero part :C

Kurowscar

I have to agree. I seriously, SERIOUSLY hope the next update is much MUCH more hentai focused to compensate for this one. Please don't forget what kind of game you're creating here Eromancer. Good gameplay is great, but it's not the main reason we're here.

Cereliona

Eh, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Not often that a game dev puts in a puzzle that gives me a fair bit of trouble. Except color-based puzzles, due to my red-green colorblindness. &gt;.&gt;

Cereliona

I won't lie, this is the first time I've ever seen a review of a game say that the focus was way too gameplay heavy.

Anonymous

I wonder if I'm like the only one who appreciates that for once a game with a porny focus isn't like super gameplay light? I appreciate that you guys are trying to make an actual game with porn instead of porn lightly dressed as a pretend game

KatakiSenpai

There is nothing wrong with good gameplay. I love the gameplay in MatM but come on the puzzle was way to much. Even puzzle games give you hints. Personally I feel it was to long and required way to much work. I would feel that way about it if it was part of a normal game as well.

Anonymous

Agreed with other commenters. Game is good.

Anonymous

Great job on the puzzle! A little too early in the game for such a puzzle but if it was in mid to late game or looking for some epic item I would be perfectly happy with the way its setup.

Anonymous

Hello, I am 45 dollars user, how do I download games?

eromancer

Hey there! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you! I sent you a message with details.
