This complex of calderas represents what was a late Jurassic-early Cretaceous period back arc basin (sort of like Taupo). Eruptions occurred on magnitudes of VEI 6-8, depositing in one instance 400 m thick of ash. These deposited tens of thousands of rhyolite hexagons; typical columnar rocks are basaltic.


You should expect a video on the largest caldera within the next few weeks!
