It is not well known, but the Yellowstone Caldera produced a megaeruption after its major eruption 640,000 years ago (VEI 8, 1,000 km^3). One of these eruptions occurred 174,000 years ago, forming a massive 5 mile or 8 kilometer wide caldera in an eruption larger than the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa. Also shown in an attached graphic is a hydrothermal explosion crater in Mary’s Bay which measures >1 mile wide.

Hey check out this 7 min video about Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha’Api https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wbOvJLGA-U They got to snorkel where the island once existed. It was 100mt above BUT now it’s 300mt below. Wow.
