I’m SO happy you’re starting to warm to twelve, and he only gets better from here on in

Lloyd B

This is a really good base under seige story with a strong supporting cast. The actor playing Cass is indeed deaf herself, while the guy who plays Lunn has a deaf sister and knows sign language. I like how Cass is the strongest, most competent and intelligent character in the crew. Incidentally, the Doctor's attemp at signing when he first met her actually said something like "you have a beautiful face", which is why Casz looked so perplexed. The Doctor is definitely mellowing, and Clara has taken on the role as a bit of a guide, training him in empathy. The compassion cards are hilarious, and if you look closely they read as follows: "I completely understand why it was difficult not to get captured"; "It was my fault, I should have known you didn't live in Aberdeen"; "I didn't mean to imply that I don't care"; "No-one is going to be eaten/vapourised/exterminated/upgraded/mortally wounded[/]turned to jelly[.] We'll all get out of this unharmed." The Aberdeen reference is a nod to Sarah Jane Smith, who you may recall from A School Reunion in series 2 told the Doctor that instead of dropping her off in Croydon years before he'd abandoned her in Aberdeen.

Still laugh whenever Clara has to remind the Doctor to use his cards to make up for lack of manners. Well, at least he is trying.
