Chapter 432: A universal threat to friendships.

That Saturday was a busy day of work, something I was thankful for. It was distracting and left no time to think about anything other than the next order. It wasn’t ridiculously hectic, but starting at 3:00 pm we never had more than one or two empty tables.

“Okay, as much as I love hogging the tips, now you really need to hire more people,” I told Maria as I walked past her carrying a tray of used cups and plates.

“I know, I know!” She groaned while preparing two large cups of coffee. “I’ll put up the posters on Monday.”

By now it wasn’t just girls from my school that came to the shop. Couples on dates, adults with laptops coming over to get work done with a cup of coffee, people who came here to read books… It was surprising that, for as many customers as we had, the atmosphere remained relatively quiet. It was nice.

“When I do hire more people, I’ll be counting on you to teach them the ropes, okay?”

“...” I didn’t answer, escaping with the excuse of delivering yet another order.

Would I still be working here in the near future? If I accepted Mr. Allen’s deal, I wouldn’t need to. And even if I didn’t accept it, it was possible I might need to change jobs, be it due to location on pay.

More problems, more changes, more decisions. Is this what adulting is? I don’t like it. And then after work I’d be meeting the girls at Diana’s house.

This might come as a shock, but… I almost didn’t want to go. I was tired and knew going to see them would inevitably turn into more discussion about the things we had to do, our options and inevitabilities. I’d have to tell them about Mr. Allen’s offer, too, and I wasn’t even sure I was ready for that. I still hadn’t made up my own mind about it.

Regardless, I still went to see them. Not just because I promised I would, but because no matter what it was that we had to talk about, seeing them always made me happy. Besides, the quicker we figured all this out, the better.

I took a bus to Diana’s house and got there at around 9:00 pm. Late, but I knew the girls went to Diana’s in Sarah’s SUV. We could drive back and not worry about buses.

I knocked on the door, but got a little worried when it took a bit too long for anyone to answer. I knocked again, louder this time, and Diana came out to… greet me?

“I’m… so sorry about this,” she said with an apologetic smile. Her face was a little flushed, her eyelid droopy and I could hear loud chatter from the living room.

“W-What do you mean?”

“NOELLE, YOU BITCH!” Sarah screamed.

“BITE ME!” Noelle answered.

Red was barking.

My jaw dropped and, stunned, I followed Diana to the living room. The girls were all gathered around the table in the middle of a game of Monopoly, each one with a different drink in front of them. Some glasses were… emptier than others, but all their faces were pretty flustered as well. Red was half-jumping and barking until he saw me.

Mila saw me, and with pleading eyes pointed a finger at the redhead. “Oliver, stop her! Noelle is ruining us! Grace is enabling her, I’m in serious debt, Sarah is gonna choke someone and Alice is in jail!”

“I needed those $200!” Alice cried with her face against the table.

I turned my gaze to Diana, pleading for elaboration. The older woman was smiling and giggling softly. “We’ve been playing for two hours. I made some drinks, things got louder and now Noelle owns half the board.”

“This is what power tastes like, and I like it!” Noelle said giddily as she placed  another hotel on one of her properties. I think I should note that HER glass was completely empty, and dirty with something like chocolate in it.

“The dream is dead and Noelle became an evil corporate tycoon…” Alice lamented, sniffing softly. “It can’t get worse.”

Grace, meanwhile, was casually leaning back on her chair, nursing a glass of whiskey on the rocks and smiling happily. “I’m just enjoying the chaos. I didn’t know monopoly was this fun.”

“Says you! You’re in second place!” Sarah told her.

“Learn to invest.”

“Fuck you.”

Grace raised her glass. “Cheers.”

“This is what I meant,” Diana said, still giggling. “I think I broke them.”

I couldn’t take it anymore. The whole scene was just too much. I burst out laughing to the point my stomach hurt. Of all the things I was expecting, coming to a drunk game of Monopoly was NOT on the list.

“So I guess I’m the designated driver, huh?” I said. I didn’t mind. The girls were clearly having a good time.

“No, Oliver, drink with us!” Mila said cheerfully, raising her glass. “We’re staying over!”

I blinked. “Stay… Huh?”

“I have enough space for everyone,” Diana said. “I’m more than happy to let you all stay. We decided before we started drinking. I don’t want to send you off drunk. They already called their homes.”

“Shee? She says it’s fine!” Noelle said with a bit of a slur.

I swallowed. “H-How much has Noelle had?”

“Two mudslides,” Alice said, giggling and giving me a V with her fingers. “She’s SUCH a lightweight. I bet it’s because she’s so tiny!”

Noelle pouted and gave Alice a very weak shove. “Sh-Shut up! Like you have any room to talk!”

“Excuse me, I…” Alice paused, cleared her throat, took a deep breath and continued. “...am completely fine.” So she said, and in a very composed tone, but she was swaying on her seat a bit. That and her eyelids were drooping more than anyone else’s.

“Yeah, you two are only allowed water for a while,” Sarah said, sighing with her arms crossed and looking over the two girls with worry. “Neither of you is used to drinking. Do as I say or tomorrow’s hangover is going to be MEMORABLE.”

“Let them have it. There’s no better way to learn,” Grace said, chuckling and taking another sip of her drink.

Mila winced and made a disgusted face, covering her mouth with her hand. “God, I remember my first hangover. I don’t wish that on anybody.”

“I’ll make sure none of you goes overboard,” Diana said. “So? What do you say? Stay?”

Those pleading eyes were NOT fair game.

“I need to make a call.”

Chapter 433: Comfort and assertiveness.

I told mom the truth. I told her I was at Diana’s house because I had important things to talk about with all the girls regarding university plans. I told her Diana had offered us to stay the night after the other girls said they wanted to drink. I told her that if staying was a problem, I wouldn’t drink and drive the girls home if I had to.

Mom’s answer? She said it was okay to stay, though she didn’t sound too pleased about it. Maybe it was a reluctant acceptance that I was sort of starting to make my own life, but combined with enough trust to know I wasn’t gonna do anything stupid. I thanked her.

“I’m staying,” I told the girls.

“YAAAAY!” They cheered.

“How did you convince your parents, though?” I asked them.

“No one’s at my house tonight,” Grace said, shrugging.

“I told my parents I was with you,” Mila told me.

“Same,” Sarah said. “They said it was okay.”

“I told mine that I was with Mila, Grace and Sarah,” Alice said.

“And I told mine that I was with Alice.”

I nodded. I guess I haven’t told you this, but I’ve… sort of me Alice’s and Noelle’s parents already. Though it was a very quick introduction. I still haven’t gotten to talk to them properly.

“Okay, but remember,” Diana said. “Just because you’re staying over, doesn’t mean you can drink until you pass out. My condition is that I can withdraw the booze the moment I think you’re having too much.”

“Yes ma’am!” Noelle, Mila and Alice earnestly said in unison.

Sarah nodded. “Don’t worry, I know my limits.”

“And you were generous enough to pour me a Green Label,” Grace said with a content, happy sigh. “I’m going to take my time enjoying it. Thank you again.”

Diana smiled, satisfied, then turned to me. “And now that we know you’re staying… Want anything?”

To be honest, I was a little stunned. I knew the girls had been here with Diana practically all day, but… It almost seemed like they’d know each other for FAR longer. Almost like I was the one intruding.

“Um… A grasshopper?” I asked shyly.

Diana smiled again, gave me a sweet peck on the lips and went into the kitchen. But I didn’t have time to enjoy the lingering taste of her lips on mine. My five other girlfriends had seen that and now had their eyes glued to me.

“U-Um…”

“Too short,” Grace said, frowning. “I want to see a longer kiss.”

Alice giggled with a hand on her chest. “I don’t know. That already felt kind of intense. I think it sobered me up a little.”

“It was so casual, too…” Sarah smirked. “You two are really close already, aren’t you?”

“Yeah. That was cute.” Mila grinned and bit her lip. “Now kiss her harder!”

Noelle pouted cutely as she looked down at her own chest. She cupped her breasts and made them bounce on her hands. “Oliver, whose tits do you like better? Mine or hers?”

I felt unstable. You’d think I’d grown used to these situations, but this wasn’t like anything that came before. Diana was technically a stranger to all of us. I had only been on like three dates with her, known her for just about two weeks. But maybe that was part of the appeal. She was my new lover, a new woman, and that ticked different yet still present boxes in our lists.

This was one of those times I had no choice but be assertive, huh? Anything less wouldn’t do.

“That’s a pretty difficult question,” I told Noelle, walking around the table over to where she was. “I mean, you two have surprisingly similar boobs.”

I stood behind her and replaced her hands on her breasts with mine.

“Mmm!” Noelle let out giggling moans while my hands cupped her tits over her blouse.

“You’re both pretty big… and extremely supple,” I told her while letting my finger sink into her soft flesh. I leaned down to kiss her cheek, then her neck. “You both also have very cute, sensitive nipples.” I rubbed my index fingers over her little nubs. Noelle’s breathing became deeper, her body trembled and her nipples got harder. “All in all, you both have lovely tits I could spend hours just fondling.”

Noelle giggled even more. She threw back her head and gave me a beaming smile. “Okay, okay! You win! Stop or you’ll make me come!”

“And that’s a bad thing because…” Grace said, gesturing with her hand for Noelle to go on.

The redhead put on a pouty face. “B-Because we’re at someone else’s house! If I come, I’ll want more. Then you’ll want to join and… and…”

“Relax, Noelle,” Diana said, coming back from the kitchen with a glass of grasshopper. She handed it to me with a kiss on the cheek and put a comforting hand on the redhead’s shoulder. “I know you’re all a bunch of sex fiends.”

Noelle and I blushed together and that was my cue to start drinking.

“No, but she’s right,” Alice said. “We came here to talk, play and have a good time, not to have an orgy.”

“That sounds like a good time to me,” Sarah said.

“Sure it does, but not until Diana is okay with it,” Mila said. “You bunch of freaks will probably creep her out.”

“Fair point,” Grace gracefully admitted.

“Actually, I had something in mind,” Diana said. I watched her walk towards a cupboard with stiff steps. I felt a mix of resolve, hesitation and sexual desire from her. She opened a drawer and took out a pack of cards. “What if we… break the… sexual ice with a bit of poker?”

The girls’ eyes widened.

“Strip poker?” Alice asked.

“Not exactly. The winner of each round gets to ask something from someone else at the table. A dare, a favor, an article of clothes…”

“Oh I’m IN!” Sarah said, rubbing her hand with an evil smirk. “Noelle, prepare yourself. I’m getting my revenge!”

“Oh no…”

Well, everyone seemed to be in, and Diana was the one proposing it. Oh, what the hell. It could be fun. The heavy talks could wait until tomorrow. I wanted to relax and have fun, and clearly so did everyone else. That said… I couldn’t help but feel I was forgetting a little something.

Hm… Whatever could it be?

oh my god... Poker when Oliver can read everybody's emotions/minds and they can all read his to some extent... this is gonna be interesting, not even Grace's poker face is gonna be enough, they are all Drunk, none of them are gonna be guarded.

When Diana said she was a board gamer, I didn't expect monopoly to make an appearance... all gamers I know hate it for being pure luck. :p

written_fantasy

Yeah, I was planning on having them play other games like Sheriff of Nottingham or Sagrada, but I had the idea of Oliver arriving and hearing a bunch of chaos happening because of Monopoly and I couldn't pass it up. I got too obsessed with Mila's line of "Noelle is ruining us! Grace is enabling her, I’m in serious debt, Sarah is gonna choke someone and Alice is in jail!” Those two other games will get mentioned without the names next chapter.

Too much time between chapters, and I'm reading too many stories. What is he forgetting, or haven't we been told?

written_fantasy

Just a little something about him and gambling from a few chapters ago. He remembers immediately at the start of the next chapter.
