Re: agitator ant - because it only goads until your next turn, and the trigger happens at the end of your turn, putting counters in your own stuff is a teensy bit better than described.

@ White: Part of White's identity is being narrow and rigid, partially because its answers tend to be Silver Bullets, this is the reasoning that R&D uses when arguing against White having access effective Card Draw. This is fine, honestly, Red gets Impulse Draw as faux Card Draw, mimicking Blue, so White should get faux Ramp, mimicking Green. Land Tax style Land Ramp can never be comparable to what Green is doing though, so White needs to Faux Ramp in a way that is distinct from Green. I really wish that they would grant White Treasure Token creation as an evergreen mechanic. Treasure/Money is a hallmark of Civilization, which is part of White's wheelhouse. It's also distinct from Green's style of ramp, by not being permanent and being stuck to Artifacts. White is allies with Blue, which likes Artifacts, and Green, which likes mana. Not saying they need more cards that are exactly like Smothering Tithe; but, for example, Dockside Extortionist could easily have been Dockside Tax Collector. Keep White narrow, but let it get to its late game faster.

I keep hearing people say that cartographers hawk gets a land every other turn but that isn’t true. The turn you attack with it you recast it your second main phase and attack again the next turn. So every turn you get to catch up if there are players with more lands than you. It is essentially a rampant growth. 1G vs. 1W puts a land into play tapped but you can keep doing it if you keep falling behind. The drawbacks of having to wait a turn and having an open attack against the right player are real drawbacks though.

Rampant Growth is 1G for a tapped basic right now, one time. Cartographer's Hawk is 1W, wait a turn, attack a player who is ahead of you, get any Plains; then if you don't want to do it every other turn, it's 1W again right then. So it's not 1G vs. 1W; it's 1G vs. 1W + 1W Per Turn. Taxing yourself 2 every turn, after an initial investment of 2, is not a good way to keep from falling behind. Your deck really wants to be in the business of casting little creatures for other reasons to make it worth it.

Seems like the designers are really favoring high variance cards!
