TJ Klune’s childhood grew up reading books in a forest under the trees, which sounds idyllic … minus the part about how he was mercilessly bullied. Literature and libraries were his safe haven, and in fact a librarian was the first person he ever came out to. In his adult life, TJ found himself working a grueling job in the insurance industry, longing to tell the stories in his head. But nobody was more surprised than he was when, one day, he walked into work and declared the he was quitting so he could write the great gay American novel.

Congratulations to Mr. Klune on his literary successes, and best of luck in his ongoing mission to create Queer stories with happy endings. Wonderful episode as always. On a different note, I feel compelled to point out something: The late Patricia Nell Warren was NOT straight. She was Family. It was just one of many often repeated mis-categorizations she endured during her career (the most popular being that hers was the pen name for a closeted Gay man). Patricia was a dear friend of my husband’s, and I got to know her in the last few decades of her life. You could point to her participation in various LGBT writer’s groups or her West Hollywood political activities for some sort of “proof” of her homo-cred, but I’ll always remember when she danced at my wedding with her would-be girlfriend at the time.

Oh! That's so good to know. What a wonderful memory to have of her, and thank you for the correction!
