Thanks to your support and your help spreading the word about MinnMax, we recently hit a goal on Patreon to create an ongoing interview show. The goal for the show is to ask smart people new questions, from within and beyond the game industry. For the very first interview, we're honored to be joined by VFX legend Phil Tippett. This Oscar-winning pioneer is responsible for Star Wars' holochess, tauntauns, and Jabba the Hutt. He was there for the turning point in the film industry on Jurassic Park when Spielberg chose to abandon stop-motion animation for the dinosaurs and pivot to CG. He also worked on Robocop's ED-209 and Starship Troopers! He's had an incredible career and now we get to learn all about it, THANKS TO YOU!

If you prefer to watch the interview, you can check it out here on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCxQv1pOAyw

Future interviews will also be posted on YouTube and in the Patreon-exclusive audio feed, they won't be on a set schedule but we're aiming for a new interview every other week.

Absolutely! Jurassic Park is in my top five all time. Keep up the great work.

As an enormous fan of the LotR trilogy of films (and literally all of Phil's work) I was a little disappointed in his comments about Peter Jackson. I understand where he is coming from I suppose, but the original trilogy (NOT the hobbit trilogy) actually used mostly miniatures and makeup vfx and blended them inside 3D environments. What CGI they did use changed the industry forever, the same way he did in the 70s. Am I over reacting?

holy smokes!! Nice get!

Totally agree with you here. I think attributing cgi to Peter jackson doesn't seem accurate. The trick photography they did in lotr trilogy made for some very cool cinematography.

I agree. That was the one takeaway I was surprised with, that and Hanson feeling the need to ask about dino penis. Those movies are great and they blended CGI really well. I would have been okay if he said the original transformers or something like that. Either way he's a legend and was pretty candid and gave a good interview. I found it quite entertaining.

Wait... did you say Starship Troopers!? SOLD! Will watch interview soon.

The deep dive into specifics of scenes was fascinating. Something I've noticed on the Empire Magazine spoiler specials is that creators are used to doing normal PR and talking in general about their work. Most seem to relish diving into spoilers and the detail they worked hard to put in. Long way of saying more deep dive into the specifics with the interviews

This is a great interview, thank you Ben! I can feel the work you put into coaxing thoughts and interesting tidbits from Mr. Tippett. Awesome insights. Bravo 👍🏻
