This week is our final discussion for Final Fantasy VII Remake. It's been a wild ride. On this spoiler-filled discussion, we're talking even more about the game's ending AND our thoughts on the game through the lens of the full original 1997 game. If you're new, you can catch up on previous discussions in the Patreon-exclusive podcast feed or on MinnMax's YouTube channel.

This is our chance to spoil the original game. We already have a lot of comments on the ending from the last episode, so what we could use are scenes throughout the remake that hint at something from the original game in an interesting way and your predictions for where the remake is going in the future. Please only submit one comment this time around. The more specific your comment is, the higher likelihood we'll read it on air. The last call for submitting a comment will on Tuesday around noon.

Thanks again for playing along, writing in, and sharing The Deepest Dive with a friend! This has been an amazing journey!

I’ll keep this short and sweet: From a combat perspective, there is nothing more satisfying than moving from Tifa’s Omnistrike or whirling uppercut right into her Divekick. Mapping your character’s moves to L1 + the button of your choice is a great way to make the combat feel more fluid when focusing on physical attacks.

*SPOILERS FOR THE REMAKE AND ORIGINAL GAME* After replaying the game on Hard mode to further contemplate the ending of the remake and watching playthroughs of the original I think the future remakes might tie the more divergent aspects of the remake like the whispers to original game concepts like the Weapons. Both seem to have similar roles in protecting the planet and where the Weapons themselves act like the white blood cells of the body that is the planet to fight off infection like threats while the whispers may serve a different role in protecting the planet. This could also explain Sephiroth's connection to them in since he seems to have some relationship to them but not full control over how they act and who they protect. At this point in the original game Sephiroth’s actual body (what is left of it) is stuck in materia in the lifestream. This proximity to the lifestream may be how he is exerting some sort of control over things like the whispers. If the whispers are a part of the lifestream then it could be possible Sephiroth is infecting the planet and trying to use these natural defenders against the planet itself to further his own goals but he can’t completely stop them from trying to protect certain aspects of the planet like how a whisper stopped Aerith from falling from the balcony in the church escape scene. Beyond story aspects I’m interested in how gameplay features will carry over to the additional remake sequels. Do you think any save importing feature will be implemented? I doubt they would let us carry over end game materia, equipment, or levels for balancing reasons but it would be nice to be able to have something that we accomplished in this game come through to the next game. Also considering we are on the verge of a new console generation I’m interested to see how this remake series handles the transition.

So my wild speculations and theories for whats coming next: - In the alternate timeline where Zack lives, I think he joins up with Avalanche instead of Cloud. I think in the ending when they show that Biggs survived and is in the orphanage house is part of this alternate timeline, its because Zack was able to save them all (being an actual first class soldier and all). Likewise, my guess is that Jessie and Wedge also survived because of Zack. (They may even have a KH2 Roxas/Sora-like section in the next game where you control Zack for a chapter or something) - In addition to the above, I think they'll also really make you hate Cloud in the alternate timeline because he never had to fill Zack's shoes and he'll act pretty wimpy and unsure of himself. They may even kill him off in the Sector 7 Plate drop (wild speculation). - I also don't know how they'll implement it, but I think every game will end with an encounter with Destiny/Sephiroth similar to this first one, but each time adding a little more to the mystery. PS. 'Due Recompense' (the dubstep version of the Oppressed) is a friggan banger!

I found myself overwhelmed by Aerith’s impending doom. I essentially sobbed throughout the entirety of chapter 8 because I was falling for her but also know that she is toast.

Square is going to release a $14.99+in-game purchases mini-game collection on mobile for the Golden Saucer portion of the game. Additionally, they will release virtual pets of Moogles on mobile for $7.99+in-game purchases and Red XIII as DLC for $10.99. I'm sorry, but it's going to happen.

What scenes are you most looking forward to in the next games? For me, it's Barret's backstory culminating in the fight against Dyne on the scrapyard. Dyne's suicide was very emotional in the original, I really hope they won't tone it down.

Hey Guys, My friend is super interested in playing FF7Remake, he's already order the Steelbox edition. Over the past two weeks, he had been playing the original for the first time before he encountered a bug around Cosmo Canyon, ending his play-through (us bad boys up in Canada playing on emulators). Since he hasn't really experienced the full game, should he play the Remake? I feel like he needs to experience the original before the remake, but I know he is super pumped to jump into this beautiful remake. As far as I know, he only knows that the remake focuses on the Midgar section, which he has played through, so he thinks he safe (so naive). Keep up the great content, Cheers, Dylan

Howdy, I truly think the people participating in the Deepest Dive had the best experience with the Whispers.  We perceived them as this meta layer of "the fans trying to force the game to play the same" when in reality they were fate. The only reason we saw them as this meta concept was that we knew the story of the game, those who hadn't played the original wouldn't see them as harbingers of the past. I don't think this would have been as cool of a revelation without the discussion on this Deepest Dive, so thank you all for that. PS: Cait Sith made no sense to put him there, Reeves was in the SAME BUILDING does he just like playing with his puppets? Or didn't want to get up from his VR rig to look out the window?

Hey gang, do we like the way the summons are represented in this game and how they are actually summoned? I loved how we had to fight to earn many of our summons, much like Final Fantasy VIII, but I wish their ability to be summoned wasn't so restrictive once earned. Maybe they can bring back summoning them through MP but it could take half or all your MP to summon them as a balance so it's not spammed. PS: Summon Bahamut in Hell House fight to hear the announcers make comments about him. Thank you all for, hands down, the best FFVII Remake analysis out there! No one else came close.

I'm wondering how they are going to do the midgar zolom scene in Part 2. In the original, these giant serpents would just slaughter your party every time you tried to fight one and you eventually had to take a chocobo to run past them. One of my favorite scenes of the original game was coming up on the midgar zolom after crossing the swamp and seeing a giant tree speared through it indicating that Sephiroth had been here. This was a great example of foreshadowing and showing the gap between your party's strength and Sephiroth. I was really looking forward to seeing how they would present this scene, but unfortunately I don't think that it will have the same effect now. Since at the end of the Part 1 you end up basically killing the embodiment of fate itself and already went toe-to-toe with Sephiroth. So why would your party be afraid of a big snake?

I do hope their usage expands beyond boss battles and Colosseum matches, but how would people want to get summoning materia going forward? While I liked the fights themselves I didn't like the idea of obtaining them via a VR fight with a god. Should their acquisition fall more in line with the original game (found on the map or rewards for other battles)? Still won via a trial by combat? A mix of the two? Also, Chadley: Yeah or Nay?

One thing I was interested in was how there was a point early on when the one of the regular soldiers recognize Cloud's sword. Guessing from the original game, I thought that they are maybe thinking of the Buster Sword as Zack used to wield it. That made me wonder if Aerith would have recognized the sword as Zack's too when Cloud and Aerith first bumped into each other. It also made me wonder whether having the Buster Sword equipped when they meet again in the church in the remake has any difference in their interaction or any story development in the future? Aerith in the remake seems to hint at almost sensing what's coming for her future, even moreso than I remember her doing in the original - do you think she will be playing that up even more through the future installments of the remake? Almost as a guide for Cloud through the story?

My bet is that instead of the dead snake, they use the junkyard shopkeeper for shockvalue

Now that "all bets are off" in the FF7 Game Universe I have a feeling that showing Zack alive at the end won't influence the next game much, but is merely a cheeky setup for a "what if" spin-off or perhaps even a sequel to Crisis Core? I'm very excited going into the story and never being sure what will happen. What does the panel think the odds are that Square is gonna sprinkle in a little "Life is Strange" and start experimenting with different branches in their story telling? Can't wait for the show!
