Sup guys? Just thought I'd drop in and talk about stuff.

Can someone verify whether or not I've done a blog in the last month? In July I did a big one outlining my next several projects, but I could have sworn I did another small one since then. I'm scrolling through all my posts and not finding it though, so I guess I just made that up. Which of course is really lame because that means I had no idea it had been so long since I wrote a blog. Not cool, Arlo!

Well other than the Metroid relaunch video, which who the heck knows when it will come together due to its size, I'm finished with the month-worth of content I had planned. The Super Mario Sunshine video went over great and it's still performing strongly, and the other two were fun. Then my next priority was finishing the next Gnoggin video, which I did, so you can expect that soon. Between all this I put together a highlights video for my Resident Evil 4 LP. I was going to do Super Mario Galaxy 2, but when I looked at it I realized that I didn't have enough good stuff to make a whole video and will have to wait until the next time I do some episodes for it.

I'm extremely pleased with how my scheduled content flow is going. I was successful in releasing a video every Friday with the exception of last week, but I'm about to publish the highlights video which I'll say counts for last week, then the Gnoggin video will count for this week. So even though things got switched around there's still a video for each week, and I think that's just dandy!

To be honest though, I'm not really sure what's next! It's funny; last month I just had my plan all at once, coming up with the ideas for the "scary games" and Yoshi Principle in quick succession and throwing the Mario Sunshine one on top, knowing I would follow it up with Gnoggin for a full month in total. But inspiration comes and goes, so at the moment I'm just kind of brainstorming. I have a list of video topics, but none of them are jumping out at me yet, or some of them are just about ready to be done but for whatever reason I want more time. So I'm waiting to see what idea just sort of works out.

For the sake of conversation, here are some ideas that I'm considering:

I want to do a video about the first game that ever really scared me, and I'm actually really excited to get started. Thing is, I want to hold off until October, and maybe even do a whole month of scary/horror-themed videos. (I'm kicking myself for not thinking of that before I published my "scary games" video.) But it will be about the Eel in Dire Dire Docks in Super Mario 64. Obviously it's not a straight-up scary game per se, but that was the first time I ever felt that kind of scared sensation in a video game. In the video I'll talk about why that is.

A very doable idea is "Nintendo IP's That Are Perfect for Mobile." Basically just talking about the different franchises that would be at home on a smart phone, and how they could monetize smartly without gouging players. This one will probably happen soon, and I think it will get a decent amount of views.

"What I Want From a New Resident Evil." Instead of talking too much about why Resident Evil 7 looks really disappointing (for a Resident Evil game; it looks pretty cool as its own thing) I'll give it an Arlo spin and instead outline what kind of RE game I myself want to play. I can go over what I like about each one and all that. Only problem with this one is that I don't really want to do it until I can play 6 and all of Revelations 2, which I plan to get when I get a PS4. Got to actually play them before I know what parts I like and don't like. I'm sure I could get away with just talking mostly about what I liked in 4 and 5, but I don't think that would be right.

Considering doing a simple video about why the Gamecube was the best, and list all the games that made it great. That's kind of a throwaway idea though--a little too easy, mostly just good filler if I can't think of anything else. But maybe I'll be able to put some comedic spin on it or something, I don't know.

I've also been getting the itch to do something a little more topical and opiniony. Just something where I talk about a current thing and give my two cents. Those kinds of videos seem to do the best. I was thinking of maybe talking about Federation Force's remarkable failure in Japan, though I want to wait for numbers from the rest of the world too. (If you haven't seen the figures yet, go look. It's way worse than you expect. Now that I've said that, take your new expectation...it's way worse than that. And probably worse than the next one or two expectations as well.)

So we'll see what happens. I get the feeling it will end up being something different than all these, but to quote Mr. Furious: "I don't need a compass to know which way the wind shines!" In the meantime you all keep being awesome, and whatever I come up with I'll try to share it with you here before I enter production.

Have a good one!

The scary games theme for October sounds good. Really diving into the psychology of a scary game, or what makes a game scary (whether it is intentionally a horror title or not) seems pretty ripe for discussion.

All the ideas you brought up sound good, and I like having October dedicated to those scary-themed videos. I'm certainly curious about your thoughts on Federation Force; a few YouTubers that I follow (like Gilly the Kid, just to name one of them) have stated that it's a fine game in its own right and is mainly only suffering from the same problem that Nuts & Bolts did: being titled under a franchise that didn't really need it... I'd like to hear what your two cents are on the game.

Federation Force doing badly sales-wise is no surprise. When a game gets such a vitriolic response as it did, Nintendo's chance of getting things back on the rails for the game was as good as a snowball's in hell. As understandable as the response was, though, it wasn't a healthy one. The game itself, having played it, isn't bad. Not great, but not terrible. Was it a good idea? Sorta, but it shouldn't have been the first Metroid game out to end the 6-year drought, without question.
