Hey guys!  Boy, things have been a bit crazy!

I honestly had no idea this Pikmin thing was going to be such a thing.  I didn't think that many people cared one way or the other about the game, and here it is getting more views than my Mario and Luigi video and my Star Fox Zero review, which before were my big hitters after The Problem With Paper Mario.  Now it's at 100k, which is just so weird.  It's kind of a bummer that only the controversial videos seem to get any exposure, so now there are a lot of people who took that video the completely wrong way and sent a lot of hate my way.  As a Youtuber you've got to have a thick skin, but it's one thing when someone just hates you or whatever and another when thousands of people jump to ridiculous conclusions about you because they took your simple opinion piece waaaaay too seriously.  No big deal though; instead of replying to comments or making a followup video, I want to give it an Arlo spin and address some of the issues brought up in separate videos that act as their own thing instead of direct replies.  I don't know exactly when these will happen, but in the not-too-distant future you can expect "Can We Judge a Game By Its Trailer?" and a video talking about Nintendo's spinoffs and sequels and new ideas.  In the former I'll make my case that yes, you can judge certain aspects of a game based on the trailer (like whether or not you think it looks good--because come on, by these peoples' logic watching a trailer and thinking it looks GOOD is just as unfair).  The latter will look at a number of games where Nintendo tried something different and explore why some work and others don't.  This will address the "you just hate spinoffs/new ideas" thing, which to anyone who actually watched the video is ridiculous.

Blugh, but enough about that!  All the traffic has gotten me a good chunk of new subscribers, which is totally exciting!  I just released my "The Calm Before the NX Storm" video which is doing pretty well considering it's not controversial, and I'm really hoping it resonates enough with people to be shared around.  I posted it late last night and the views are spiking as people in the US wake up, so that bodes pretty well.  I tell you, I'm pretty exhausted.  I was just talking about how I had this sudden inspiration for three videos, then I didn't know what I was going to do, but news has a way of sparking things again, doesn't it?  I watched the latest Nintendo Direct and just knew I had to say something about Pikmin, so I rushed that video out so fast my head spun.  Then I wanted to get a jump on the "calm" video, which I had just decided to make, so I wrote the script really quick and shot it, but then I heard the news of Super Mario Run so I banged out another script and shot it and edited it at lightning speed.  I think that one might have been my quickest turnaround ever.  At this point I'm temporarily abandoning the one-a-week thing because I'm pulling in traffic from the Pikmin video, so I post the Mario Run one to stay current and keep the momentum going.  Then I finish the "calm" video and consider holding onto it until next week, especially considering the fact that the newest Gnoggin released and I always planned for that to take up a whole week slot, but then I figure it's more fuel and it's more effective the longer before the NX reveal it gets out there, so I posted it last night.

So that's basically why we just got a slew of videos I never told you about, and unfortunately why I wasn't able to show them to my wonderful $10+ patrons early.  And why my eyes feel like they're going to fall out.  (I really need to get one of those wrist pads for my keyboard and my mouse, by the way.  Oy.)  And truth be told I'm at another point where I don't know what's up next.  I really want to take it easy until next week, but I'm still feeling all this pressure to keep the train moving, so I don't know.  Maybe I should just work on my Wind Waker LP for a while, that's nice and casual.  And when the NX is revealed I'm going to have a ton of work on my hands, so maybe I shouldn't burn myself out.  I don't know, I guess I'll just take it as it comes, as usual.  Plans can change in a day.

So that's what's been up, and I'll let you know if I figure out what's coming next.  Super-uper special thanks and greetings to my new patrons!  We're glad you have you, pull up a chair, kick off your shoes, have a beverage!

Later guys.

I'm glad you still took advantage of this period of opportunity, because each video felt like a product of you, naturally at your best. I prefer these small bursts rather than giving into demand and comprimising the intrgrity of your image for cheap views/subscribers.

Don't get too worked up over the negative comments on the Pikmin video, you explained your reasoning fine and it was only idiots and people who didn't watch the video who got the wrong idea. You're going to get more people like that as your channel grows bigger, so it's good to learn how to deal with them. Besides, dislikes still help videos gain exposure. ;) Some more WW to help avoid video burnout sounds like a great idea.

There are those on youtube just itching for a reason to shout. Those types tend just to look at the title and decide to throw hate at it without even watching it. I say don't don't take it personally as these people just aren't thinking regardless. Anyway take your time and I look forward to seeing your reaction to the NX which by speculation is a console that is also a portable console, cross platform, a scanner, printer, coke dispenser, fridge, toilet and rocket launcher.

I'd love to see more Wind Waker, and it'd certainly be good for you to relieve some of that stress before all the big news starts rolling in for the holiday season. Take it easy for a while, Arlo; no need to overwork yourself now...

If trailers weren't meant to give you a snap judgment on a product, movies would have no way of advertising. Either way, glad to see all the content this month. I wouldn't even consider the big hitting videos "controversy" content. You aren't coming out of left field with some wild conspiracy theory, and a dude in a lab coat saying, "There is no satisfactory evidence that this is a Pikmin game. This is just another plot perpetrated by Big Gaming." You have well composed points, you present them calmly, and through the medium that is Arlo. At the end of the day, out of those 100K views, several thousand subbed because all your content is enjoyable. On a side note, the new Gnoggin video had me cracking up. That is totally the sort of humor I like, and I don't know if you guys write that stuff together or not - but whoever decided to take Mario is Missing in such a dark direction, that was genius.

We were knocking around ideas for a long time, and Lockstin had the idea to just do something on Mario is Missing because we couldn't think of anything else. He had written the part where Arlo shows up a long time ago, and we shot the stuff in his old apartment like five months ago. When we landed on the idea of looking at Mario is Missing through an overly-dramatic lens, I wrote and edited that whole part of the video. If I might toot my own horn, I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, haha.

Happy to see your channel is growing. Just became a patron myself and I'm kinda of a similar situation with my own channel. Ironicly I found you through the pikmin video so hey, there ya go. Keep doing what your doing but just don't over exert yourself to the point where it doesn't become fun anymore. Cause that's called a job... er I mean, a not fun job XP If your looking for more thigns to poke at you should totally poke at Mario Maker 3DS. I know I made a youtube comment a little while back but my frustration on nintendos choices on that game is forever unending (unless they let you transfer to the wii u or something)

I feel like Nintendo is stuck in a time loop where they believe its still the 90s and refuses to get out of it. Let's port Mario maker on the console people actually have, but get rid of the entire point of the game. I could go on for hours.

(EDIT: looks like Patreon doesn't like less-than/greater-than symbols in comments...) A pattern that often happens on the web is that you might say a statement as innocent as, "I miss the 90s," but you can bet there'll be someone to twist the statement and say something like, "So you miss the days when there was no cure to [insert some horrible disease cured in 2000s]? You should be ashamed!" And then you feel bad for being misunderstood. Like you did something wrong when you clearly haven't. So then you feel like you have to clarify, "No no no, I meant I miss the 90s tv-shows/video games!", and they back off, but this all makes you wonder why you had to even go through this - like you're dealing with lawyers instead of viewers. I don't have an answer for handling the above yet, besides clarifying the situation as soon as possible, and moving on ahead with other things. Anyways, I've discovered Arlo as well via the Pikmin video (showed up on my recommended list). I've never played a Pikmin game, nor was I interested in the new 3DS Pikmin game, but I liked Arlo's presentation format: the puppet, the opinions reinforced with visual examples, the vocal inflections - the "Arlo spin" as you call it. As a result I've watched mostly all the main channel videos - and what you've been doing so far is great.
