In terms of weaving the story arc throughout the whole season, this one is unsurpassed, and that’s a large part of why I rate S4 as one of the best. Tying all the previous moments together at the finale was great, especially with the little flyby at the end. It’s difficult to say what exactly is going on when they turn the keys. I believe that the connections forged between them, their elements, and the ponies they’ve touched with their lives increased the power of Harmony so that they can become living channels for the power of their virtues. This power is generally referred to in the fandom as the Rainbow Power; they no longer need the physical Elements, only their own souls. What Discord’s thought process was here is an open question in the fandom. On one hand, he certainly betrayed Equestria and caused harm to an unknown number of ponies (Tirek’s draining certainly seems traumatic), but on the other, at the beginning of part 1 he hands Twilight everything she needs to find the keys and win. His own betrayal provides the final key. A lot of people were very mad at him for making Fluttershy cry. I like to believe the betrayal was real; yet he had some idea of how events would play out. If that doesn’t make sense, remember that this is Discord, Master of Chaos; Paradox is practically his middle name. That kind of assholish helpfulness is who he is. Also, if he doesn't seem bothered by Tirek choking him, I imagine it's because most people who know Discord want to strangle him every now and then (except perhaps Fluttershy). The loss of the Library Tree was a huge surprise, and rather tragic for this show. Although it provided an opening for Hasbro’s new “Crystal Castle playset” the show did a good job (with the whole episode really) of making it a dramatic moment. Overall, the pacing and story beats of this episode are absolutely wonderful. The epic battle, building up to Tirek’s deal, Twilight’s epiphany and the quiet moment with Discord, before everything swells back up into the grand finale at the tree. Absolutely wonderful. This easily makes my top 10 episodes list. I hope you didn’t go TOO far into S5. Rainbow Rocks is up next; which is the whole point of watching Equestria Girls at all. There’s no spoilers there, but Twilight’s state of mind following this episode is fairly relevant.

I agree that Rainbow Rocks is a must watch. Not only does it fill in between S4 and S5, but is a really fun watch and arguably the best(I personally dig a different one a bit more but that's just me) of that series being massively better than the first EQG movie which was at best mediocre, clunky and weired to be frank.

I'll also put in my vote for Rainbow Rocks ASAP. I was floored by this episode. The whole Dragonball Z scene was so much fun! But while I was watching it for the first time, I remembered this is a show targeted at ~6 year old girls (according to Daniel Ingram, the show composer), and it was... jarring, like a slap to the face. I just couldn't process it in that moment. The angry facial expressions, the huge explosions, her house of 4 years being suddenly destroyed!? That's when I knew I was watching something extraordinary, a show that was upending the status quo of "children's" animation. It obliterated any "safe space" boundaries I thought might still exist. I knew right then that everything was now on the table, no established tropes were safe for the main show. (The EQG movie targeted an older demographic, teenage girls, and dealt with more mature themes like romance, so it wasn't quite as shocking to see how it portrayed Sunset Shimmer. But Tirek, in the main show?? Insanity.) And oh boy, I was not disappointed with what followed. For me, this episode is the turning point where the show stomps really hard on the gas pedal. I can't wait to see your reaction!

One of the best season finales, though my heart belongs to the next season. But before that we need to check out Rainbow Rocks.

KittyGuardian

As the others mentioned the Rainbow Rocks movie is next. I think someone needs to list you where all the movies are. I don't remember them all, but I'm sure many others do!

Reversal Ring +3

Just a heads up: There's an after credit scene in the EQG - Rainbow Rocks movie... there are a few reactors who missed it at first.

Great reaction. Can't wait for season 5. That's where the real fun begane for me

I believe the order of EQG series is as follows: Equestria Girls -> Rainbow Rocks Pre-Movie Shorts -> Rainbow Rocks -> Rainbow Rocks Post-Movie Shorts -> Friendship Games Pre-Movie Shorts -> Friendship Games -> The Legend of Everfree -> Dance Magic -> Movie Magic -> Mirror Magic -> Summertime Shorts -> Forgotten Friendship -> Youtube EQG Season 1 -> Rollercoaster of Friendship -> Spring Breakdown -> Sunset's Backstage Pass -> Youtube EQG Season 2 -> Holidays Unwrapped

Notice the wink Discord does in the end. There are lot of people that like the theory he did it all to teach her a lesson and make her earn her key.

I am going to give you a spoiler here. remember what you said. this will come into play later. as for that scene with tirek yes that was inspired by DBZ and everyone caught it the way they fought is to this day the best ending ever with the exception to some with the series finally

One of Discord's greatest weaknesses is his arrogance. He likes to think he's smarter than everyone else, but he's pretty naive much of the time, as evidenced here.

Entropic Nightmares

Hope to see a reaction to the Tirek episode of Gen 1 MLP one day xd. Also still wonder how he could be defeated, he had the power of creation with Discord's powers, he could of changed reality with that much power, oh well xd.
