Hello everyone!

Thanks to almost 500 of you for completing the first "Big Thing" Survey! We have a representative sample so have closed the first survey now.

The results:  95% of you would like to see additional expansion months for one or more theme.

Drop Troopers and Over The Top are the months which more than 50% of you ticked "yes" to, so those themes will get follow on months at some point!

Big Things in order of % who ticked "YES", least popular first.

  • War Mammoth 40% - This idea, sadly, is now extinct.
  • Spider Tank 61%
  • Mobile Artillery 66%
  • Main Battle Tank 74%
  • Infantry Fighting Vehicle 74%
  • Heavy Mech 75%
  • Light Mech 76%
  • Drop Ship 77%

The vote was very close, and it's good to see that most of you will be happy with most of the ideas. It's likely that several of these ideas will feature in future "Big Thing" months.

We need to narrow it down so, the model will either be a Light Mech or a Drop Ship.

Some guidance to help you decide your preference.

The Light Mech:

  • A smaller model, approx 70-80 tall with a single pilot, designed to work with a 60mm base (ish) - we will supply a scenic base you can print.
  • The entire model should fit on 1-2 shorter prints and be easier to clean up and assemble.
  • It's likely we will have enough design time to include fully poseable legs as well as several weapon options and alternative components (engines, feet, armour plating etc).

The Drop Ship:

  • Very large and impressively detailed centrepiece model.  25cm/12" long and wide as a rough estimate.
  • Design to be printable on a typical LCD printer build area, but it will likely be 6-8 long prints, a lot of resin, and a complex and challenging kit to assemble.
  • Unlikely we will have time to design multiple weapon load outs/configurations.
  • You'll need to provide your own base and acrylic or metal wire flight stand - we will advise on options.

VOTE WINNER: LIGHT MECH

We'll be putting up a survey soon with more detailed questions on design elements/style, battlefield role, weapons etc so we can work up the first draft.

Thank

Team Anvil

Maybe war mammoth can live again as a separate purchase add on?

anvildigitalforge

I certainly want to sculpt it! It would be weeks of work so likely has to go on the "personal hobby projects" sculpting pile, behind a whole load of Afterlife models.

Personally for the light mech I'd love to see something along the lines of Heavy Gear's gears (which themselves are heavily influenced by AT VOTOMS), which are more or less of the size you're stating (https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/5a26c41ef09ca4da1420a6b4/1512540258222-F4VJMU8D55S5DM8YN4DF/hg0.jpg?content-type=image%2Fjpeg)

A light mech with options to fit the trench line would be ace for a project I'm working on

Something to fill the role of a "Sentinal" would be mint....and cough...more renegades lol

RIP my trencher mammoth dreams

I might be swimming against the tide here but I’d go drop ship. Really great 28-32mm vehicles are few and far between and, although I’d love to see the anvil take on a scout walker there’s plenty of options for them already around. A big ass drop ship (maybe with a renegade theme) would be something much more unique

Plenty of light mechs about, but drop ships are rare!

I would like to see some sitting down legs, good for vehicle crews you can see, tank riders and all kinds of diorama pieces, but really rare.

I would really like to see a bit of concept art before a tie-breaker vote like this. Both of these are of interest to me, but my use of them is going to depend extremely heavily on their style.

anvildigitalforge

Fair, but unfortunately there are so many design options its not really possible. EIther vehicle could be done in various styles - very high tech, ww2 rivets, near future.. and also in various configurations.. I am going to do a survey to narrow down the style/layout etc. Ultimately making something which suits everyone is impossible, but Ill try!

how does war mammoth lose??

6-8 long prints for a centre piece sounds too much - especially when I’ve found printing vehicles with lots of flat panel components end up not fitting together because of swelling, shrinking or bending of parts. Only time I’ve seen successful resin vehicle prints was when the core was one big hollow piece. As for the mech - will it be more of a “mech” like a sentinel, with legs and weapons or a “mecha” with articulated arms?

Surprised Over the Top got so much love when there's like 3 DKoK standins and many free options. Excited for all the Mecha love tho.

I hope in something more modern or very near future in heroic scale... not those things of which is the internet full... postapocalyptic was good but with only very limited optionsl and gear/weapons...

Stalk tanks are us!

Dropship please! I need one for my highly specialized Deathkorps/Inquisition Assault Force

Light Mech. please. Would be great to see special weapons and shoulder mounted heavy weapons for drop troops in a future add-on.

Gary Krieger

Love the light mech. Was definitely hoping for a heavy mech

Sikander

You could always add extra weapons for the drop ship in later months, or separately through your site.

deffiently lookiing for a decent light mech to use with my anvil industries, modern/halo reach inspired infantry

Northern Light

Hm reads like, Drop Ship better later, but than it will be AWESOME!!! but not now, please vote Mech ;)

anvildigitalforge

Haha I was trying to give a balanced view on the pros and cons of both.. I am happy to design either model! It will be our largest ever kit I think.

True there's a ton of kaiser-type armies, but I'm building around English trench theme so I'm stoked for more options! :D

Disappointed there seems to be a lot of love for light mech when there are so many out there. But a decent drop ship outside of something GW driven hasn’t been seen since the Prodos - Cheyenne for AvP. If the Light Mech wins out I’d really like to see the Dropship as the ‘next’ large mini and not put back in the hat.

Anonymous

Nice! I missed the vote! I would have voted dropship but light mech seems awesome too! Maybe add drop ship back in later!

Anonymous

I also, missed the vote (would have voted dropship)

I’m honestly open to either, the less GW-ey the better though.
