This timing is perfect. Finally some good news, while I'm sick lol although this isn't my favourite in the series, this movie made me feel such strong emotions. My heart breaks for Peeta, I'm so angry for Finnick and the forced prostitution, makes me want to smash so many faces into walls and Gale just makes me mad and upset with is jealousy and statements ugh. And I just want Katniss to get some peace and quiet and sleep. She deserves all the breaks

I havent finished the video yet so i dont know if you realized it but tye wwhite rose in her house was definitely not a symbol of hope. The white rose is kinda president snow’s symbol, so when he bombed district 12 he left the the victor’s village intact, i think, as a show to katniss of her not being able to escape the luxary of the capitol, in my opinion. So the white rose was places intentionally AFTER the district was bombed to intimidate katniss. Also snow’s daughter wasnt wearing a symbol of tye mockingjay, she was unbraiding her hair cuz she was wearing it like katniss, live every girl in the capitol, thats what she said the last movie.

I actually disagree with you and basically everyone else who likes the second movie more than this one, and I think it’s just because of “The Hanging Tree” song and the montage of the bombing of the dam. I had just watched and finished this series recently, but learned about the hanging tree when I was in high school and when the franchise was all the rage. Without seeing the movie, I absolutely fell in love with the song. First the melody is one of the best things I’ve ever heard. When I heard the song in my high school guitar class, it was immediately the song I chose for my final project. The lyrics are so haunting, and complex. When I heard Jennifer Lawrence’s performance on the studio version I absolutely fell in love with it. After I watched this movie more recently with the song accompanying it, I started relearning the song on guitar. Such a magical song.

I actually think having so much focus on Katniss is what makes it such a strong movie. Trauma and grief are so personal and solitary. Even though she has her mom and Prim and friends like Gale, Finnick, Effie, and Haymitch physically there, they’re all working their way through their own trauma and can only have so much put on their shoulders. That’s added onto the fact that Katniss is being used by people around her who should be trying to protect her. The way the Mockingjay movies (and the book) deals with the aftermath of trauma is really powerful. Loved the reaction, can’t wait for the finale!

Not you siding with Gale!!! I think it’s very pigheaded and naive of Gale to think that the only thing the capitol have up their sleeve to make you talk is torture, and that he would withstand it all. They have a lot of technology going on they can use against you. I’m sure none of that could affect Gale though, he’s too mentally powerful lol. You don’t really know what you’d do if you were in that situation until you are in it. It just reminds me of so many guys who think they could win a fight against a bear if they tried 😂 like I think you are overestimating your power here. Sorry had to comment at that bit but will come back to comment on the whole reaction at the end because I am otherwise loving it 🤓

I never saw this movie or the last one when it came out because I raged over the book when I read it lol I feel like they adapted the source material pretty well, and Jen Lawrence totally plays Katniss amazingly, but I really feel like one of the things they lost in the movies, and this one specifically compared to the first film, is that Katniss is only 16 or 17. I feel like for the casting choices that they made Jen is amazing, but I sort of wish they had tried to cast Katniss, Peeta, and Gale younger than they did. A huuuuge theme and focus in the books was that both sides were relying so heavily on young people as tools for their causes, and I feel like that specific messaging got lost. That being said, I do really enjoy how Jen, Josh, and Liam play their parts, so it's not a complaint about specific casting as much as it is about artistic direction, I guess. I'm really scared for the next movie! Like, very afraid! But I'm excited to watch it with you :)

that’s so interesting! before the movies had come out, there would be lots of fanmade melodies for the lyrics and i’d gotten attached to a few of them. (for “the hanging tree” specifically, i was into adrisaurus’ version on youtube) so when i heard the movies’ versions for the first time, i was honestly underwhelmed. they’ve since grown on me over time of course, and i do love it now, but it’s cool that you had the opposite experience. like you said, the lyrics are so hauntingly beautiful

Loved this!!! Really agreed with your thoughts!! I’ve really come to appreciate it more than I did my first watch through, as you say, I just wish we got more from other characters. A lot of part 1 movies do suffer from feeling like they don’t have enough momentum, depth or follow through and I actually think this is one of the more successful part 1 movies. But at the end of the day, it’s only the first half of a book so it’s not gonna have the same resolution as the other complete book straight to movie adaptations in the series. I remember how shocked I was at the Peeta reveal the first time I read it and it’s still shocking in the movie every time I watch. I’m pretty sure they’d been torturing Peeta from the start but the first two interviews were pre-recorded so Peeta looked okay and then the last actually showed how much Peeta had changed as it was live. These are some of the small details lost when converting to a movie.

Yes! I think the first movie worked for me because Prim, Rue, and a couple of the other tributes were actually children at the time of filming. Even Jen and Josh had a bit more of a baby-faced look to them, even though they obviously weren't as young as in the source material. But as the film franchise progressed, Jen especially was looking noticeably more like an adult (no fault of hers, since she was one lol) and it sort of... Sanitizes some of the messaging, in my opinion, when we take a story that is supposed to revolve around the fact that even children, and sometimes especially children, are affected by the realities of war and sort of remove the children from it.

its been a long time since i've seen these movies i forgot how well they tell the story of war and how both sides are just politicians with agendas and even if you are on the right side your'e still part of the same COIN!!!! and Snow being named Snow and wearing white and the white flowers because he always seems himself as the good guy I also really really don't like Gale but i will save that comment for the last movie. I also forgot how good JLaw is in these movies i cried when she thought they were both dead. One last thing and i will shut up, i don't love them taking a real life negro spiritual (Strange Fruit) and reworking it in this movie as a black person myself but i guess it could be there to give a bit more real world context to the move but still......

Funny you mention the reworking of the spiritual because I actually really liked it. Just because of what the story is about and how the waves came crashing down on the bodies of those that sacrificed themselves. Reminded me of the enslaved people's that rather jump into the ocean than live life in bondage. However, I can see how the rework could be upsetting

I was waiting to watch this one!! I've been re-reading the books since I watch your reactions to the first 2 movies, and I'm starting the 3rd book but couldn't wait to watch this!! I love this one as well, and as someone mentions, it does relay a lot on Jennifer Lawrence, but she does an amazing job. I'm off to see the other reaction 'cause I can't wait! Really enjoyed rewatching these with you, it's been so long!
