“You don’t want to switch back either?” Chris said while he sipped from his glass. His heart was racing. After agreeing to temporarily swap bodies with his girlfriend Zaya at the body swap clinic, he was loving the extra attention he was getting from all the boys at school. The purpose of the swap was to help Zaya pass her public speaking class, but the time as each other made them realize that staying this way was better for the both of them. Zaya naturally suffered from social anxiety and always felt like she was the wrong sex. Chris didn’t have gender dysphoria, but he definitely suffered from a lack of confidence in his male body.

And once Chris had a chance to be a pretty girl like Zaya, he realized that he didn’t want to go back. But she was afraid of what Zaya would think if he wanted to keep things the way they were. But Zaya seemed to be adjusting to her life as Chris too. Sure, his body was overweight, but she was clearly making progress at the gym to lose weight. She was making adjustments to her new body, and she was enjoying the lack of cat calling and general harassment she got as a girl.

But Chris knew exactly how to deal with those types of people, and he easily scared people away whenever he needed to. People were easy to control if he could convince bystanders that he was being harassed. “Do you really feel the same way?” Zaya asked. “Don’t get me wrong. I like being you. I feel … I feel a lot more confident. But I only want to keep things like this if you want to.”

“I do,” Chris said. “I thought this was a bad idea, but now I really like the idea of keeping things the way they are. Besides, we’ve been dating for five years. We know everything about each other, right?”

Zaya smiled warmly at that. “Only if you promise not to tell anybody.” He lightly kissed his old body’s lips as he promised his new boyfriend that he wouldn’t tell anybody. “Good. I love you, ‘Zaya.’”

“I love you too, ‘Chris.’”
