I def agree that this arc /season is 80% focused on world building and rules and learning NEN , which loses its emotional hook with its characters . Its basically half training arc too, and I think its sped up like that since most older shows really drags those kind of episodes . While I agree that the season is not as consistent , its building towards something that will have a payoff be it finale of the season or in later seasons . But I totally get your gripes. I think the most interesting part of it was how Killua approach the whole situation wiith those 3 guys . I think its interesting that he offered to lose those matches for these guys and he was okay with that. But the moment the talk turned to Gon , he immediately changed his tune . And he could have just killed every single one I think, but he chose not to , to go against his nature due to people like Wing ,Zushi and especially Gon that surrounds him. I think its interesting that hes trying to do better . But as we can see at the end of this ep, you dont fuck around with him when it comes to protecting Gon, he immediately flipped his switch . That little threat scene with him , still show how much upper hand he can hold and can have no regard for enemies lives. The crotch /chair talk was something else tho, lol

Ah, yes, the nen recorded on video (somehow?) I feel like this is the season where Togashi inundates us with every insane way you could possibly use basic nen before (in later seasons) focusing on abilities that are personalized, clearly limited and impossible to mimic. It sets the stage for some cool shit, but admittedly there are only a couple eps this season that are super memorable. You’ll know them when you see them. Gido (et al) didn’t sacrifice their bodies or what have you; they were maimed in the initiation when they got to floor 200. Gon’s goal is still to punch Hisoka, and Killua’s plan is to hang out with Gon and (as he promised his dad) look out for him. From the outset, Killua hasn’t considered himself worthy or capable of making friends, because that’s what he was taught all his life by Illumi and his family. He hides it well under a cocky attitude and so on, but he’s actually pretty neurotic about protecting Gon. Like it’s his excuse for being allowed to have a friend. Haha, depressing! Anyway, yeah, what this season lacks in emotional punch, it makes up for in... literal punches. Some killer fight scenes on the way. And after later arcs, this is a good one to rewatch for a nice lighthearted vibe.

LOL sorry about that 😅just a weeeee bit close for comfort haha. But I'm glad we're not crazy re: the focus on nen this season. Enjoying getting to know the mythology for sure, but yeah, the consistency shift is a bit jarring haha. But that's a great call re: Killua! I feel like I ought'a hone in more on that as it can be kinda subtle, but I like that he is sort of taking it upon himself to both look after and take after Gon. Seems like Gon's a good influence on him for the time being & Killua is cunning and street smart enough to kinda lead. And yeah man, when that switch flips, hoo boy 😅 Got the next one going up tomorrow. Excited!!

I wonder if the Netflix subtitles are not as helpful as Crunchyroll. Maybe they don't add the extra explanation. Ten is "shroud". It's defensive. Zetsu is is nullification. Ren is the first attack stage - quickly enhancing your aura, and Hatsu is then releasing that - acting.
