"Wild, Wild Pussycats"

Happy My-Hero Monday, Patron-O-Jects!!!

...at least until next week when it'll most-likely be back on Sunday lol.

Once again, we've skipped the recap in favor of hopping straight to the meat of the new season - and this time we join the students of UA on their way to Summer Training Camp!!  ...should be fun, right?

Just sayin... I prefer Japanese.

Episode 4 will blow your minds!!!!!!!!!!

Ryan H

Yup its definitely a episode to check out in Japanese before you make your decision.

I prefer dub but wouldn't mind if you continued with the subbed

I mean the sub is okay, I don't mind it all but there isn't that much difference in lines between the sub and the dub. But with dub you can focus solely on the what's going on in the anime, whereas with the sub you have to focus reading and watching at the same time.

Following along was a bit strange. I've been keeping up with this on my funimation account but the times aren't synced up anymore. Took me a while to realize I need to put my timer 10 seconds ahead of yours lol The language change is fine too. My Hero Academia is watchable in both languages, though I do prefer the English dub. The dub doesn't change any of the context of the show, it just rearranges words so that they sync with the lip flaps. Makes it so they're not always saying everything line for line but the meaning behind each line is retained. If you wanna switch back to English I can just pass you my Funimation account xD The episode itself is a really nice introduction to the season. Everything is high energy and it's a nice setup for what's coming next. The whole first half of this season is intense. Someone else was smart for mentioning episode 4. I can't wait for that reaction.

This "temporary" change to sub made me really happy, since the Dub changes too many lines and mischaracterizes some of the main cast sometimes.

Of course the Sub VA are better (except All Might) but if the Dub is alright. Either way it would be better to switch over to Funimation later on rather than sticking with Crunchyroll.

I feel like MHA has a pretty good dub (not that I'm an expert lol), but it was definitely a treat to hop over to the original Japanese :)

Oooh haha, good to know! ...will be sure to have our wits about us when episode 4 comes up 😅

Ryan H

Ya like in episode 2 they changed what deku told bakugo his reason was for rushing in to save him was.

thereelrejects

Good to know! At least as of now, seems like we'll be on the subbed version for a little while, but I gotta imagine both would ultimately sync to the reaction.. might be slightly harder with the dub since you won't have the sound to work with as much for syncing, but as long as we got our time code reasonably accurate... 😅

Ryan H

While All Mights my favorite va in the dub I still like the subs All might is better.

This is true. I was initially concerned about losing more info in the back & forth between the reading and watching, but after a few minutes, I think I got a bit more used to the natural flow of that. It does make for a different viewing experience, though. Will be an interesting change of pace for this next handful of episodes at the very least.

The dub makes some wierd changes to the dialogue. Some changes are superficial and get the same point across but others make small changes to the actual story. Also certain parts of the story only make sense in Japanese, like why Midoria chooses Deku as his hero name.

Ryan H

I prefer Crunchyroll to funimation but I mainly subbed. I think crunchy has a bigger library of anime and recently got into the dub game. I have recently watched a few dubs thanks to reactors😆

Oh snap, sorry mate!! It didn't have all the Funimation bumpers on the Crunchyroll stream, so that's probably why 😅 Haha not sure exactly what we'll wind up doing as of now - think we're at least gonna try a few episodes of the sub just for the fun of it, but depending on where we're at at the end of the month, perhaps we'll switch to Funimation so we can have both options moving forward.. definitely have appreciated the dub tracks so far, though, think they've got a lot of great voice actors and a decent translation from what I've caught in the subtitles when we've had them on (they're always a little different from the dub haha). Appreciate you offering up your account, tho! Perhaps we'll take you up on it to poke around & get acquainted sometime 😉 And I agree! Was cool to change up the scenery & some of the energy hopping into this next phase. Definitely anticipating that episode 4 now haha.

Aw haha, glad you're diggin' it! And good to know about the dub. I appreciate the voice cast a lot, but the times we keep the subtitles on, it's apparent the translation's been tweaked some for our dialect. I always find things like that kinda fascinating, but it is a bummer if the character context has been altered in that process.

I feel like the original format is always ideal (though I have enjoyed the dub VA pretty well so far). Still not sure exactly what we're gonna do moving forward, but I think we'll at least check out Funimation's service. It'd be cool to have the option to switch between both for subs/dubs. And I do gotta give props to the actor who does the All Might dub (and Armstrong on FMAB). Curious to hear Sub-All Might's voice, but I always enjoy his performances haha.

Ahh, good to know! Considering all options at the moment, but I appreciate the info. I think we've had a good experience so far with Crunchyroll, just gotta poke around and see what Funimation's setup is like. How're the Crunchyroll dubs so far?

Ryan H

Dub: I couldn't just stand there and watch you die. Sub:You looked like you were asking for help. That why later on in that episode bakugo was yelling at him saying he didn't need deku's help. Also in season 1 in the Dub the reason why Midoria start to like the name Deku is because ochako says it sounds like a hero name. In the sub Deku means useless person and she tells him it sounds like the words for "you can do it"

Karen Kettle

whatever the argument. please don't do this again. as much as i love them both its confusing going from one to the other.

W T

Why not? I don't see the problem, especially since it doesn't impact the viewers at all.
