The Theater of Delightful Agony: An Underground Arena (Patreon)

Surrounded by slaves and plagued by boredom, he finds his entertainment in the grand spectacles
Nestled within the heart of Polis, one of the largest islands in the Paramic archipelago, lies an underground spectacle that draws crowds from every corner of the free islands and far beyond - The Theater of Delightful Agony: An Underground Arena. The Polis, along with its sister islands Rhina and Irr, forms part of the loosely governed merchantocracy known as the Param. This powerful collective, reminiscent of historical entities such as the Hanseatic League or the East India Company, wields its influence through a potent blend of commerce, magic, and military might.
The Param have grown to such an extent that their armed escort fleet alone could rival the largest naval force in the world. Their economic clout is such that nations are compelled to exempt them from tariffs and special taxes, or risk losing their valuable trade. When money and bribery fail, they have the resources to raise entire armies of mercenaries to quell particularly stubborn pirate nests and monsters along their trade routes.
At the helm of this formidable entity is the Panarch of Polis, a man of immense wealth and notorious ennui. Surrounded by slaves and plagued by boredom, he finds his entertainment in the grand spectacles of his numerous hippodromes and the bloody battles fought by his expensive gladiator squads in his arenas. The Panarch is renowned for his generous patronage of the most daring and innovative architects, commissioning them to create ever more horrific and spectacular venues for slaughter. The Underground Arena is the crown jewel of these creations, a testament to the Panarch's insatiable thirst for spectacle and the relentless ambition of the Param.
