3 Astronaut Models engaged in every possible Astronaut activity (chilling, steering, and dead).

The chilling one has a half-minute of idling animation, the steering one has a basic rig I'm fairly pleased with (two bones- one to steer, and one to look around), and the dead one isn't rigged (but perhaps has rigor mortis?) For the steering one, just parent a joystick to the joystick bone (maybe use the hyperbole assets, or the cockpit??)

You could put him in places where an astronaut shouldn't be! It could represent times when people feel like they don't fit in! Incredible.

Huge thanks to Scott Kirvan for being an amazing astronaut model, and the Prospect art team for the absolutely fantastic suit (if you haven't seen Prospect yet, I highly recommend it! I think it's currently on Every Streaming Service?)

This was a primarily a test of my new lighting setup for scanning- I'm pretty pleased! It was also testing Polycam's new browser-upload option (it means I'm able to upload pictures that weren't taken with all of the iPhone's crazy processing/auto-exposure, which helps a ton- I'm making a video about scanning and all that now), which worked really well.

Also- I'm tickled by how well the helmet refraction works in eevee!!

So cool! Any chance seeing behind the scenes for the scanning rig? Also maybe seeing all the Prospect gear?? It was such an original movie and all the props were so immersive!

I was just yesterday trying to figure out how to model astronauts this is surreal

That's great !!! I like your art style !!!!

So cool, keen to try out Polycam thanks Ian. Also if you use an app like Filmic Pro on the iPhone you could have some greater control over the camera settings an bypass the auto exposure :) Super keen to see Prospect as well!

Feel like there should be a screaming astronaut in there between the steering astronaut and the dead astronaut. "A story in four poses" kinda thing. Missed opportunity. Otherwise 5/5. Love your shit

IanHubert

DAMN! You're right. The oft' forgotten 4th Astronaut Activity: Screaming.

Hey you got the FBX working! Sweet

IanHubert

it has animation! But the FBX materials are (as always) lacking all the tweaks/node-work of the blender version (and I have no idea how well the glass'll work). The difficulty I had last time with the spray paint guy is I made the project in blender 3.0, and trying to make it work in 2.9 was wildly difficult! Which is exactly how I did it again, but with custom rest-poses and stuff it wasn't that hard to fix it up this time, fortunately.

What a wonderful surprise. You never know what each day will bring - and this day has just gotten off to a most excellent start. Quickly rendered a few frames in a scene I'm working on and it looks marvelous. And oddly enough I watched Swordfish last night on one of the movie channels.

I'm ready to see them all over instagram and r/blender artworks ;D

Is that a scan of Adam Savage??!!

I like that it covers the full range of astronaut activities! ;D

So cool, thanks Ian! I’m working on a donut shoppe in space right now. Perhaps he’ll be one of the patrons. ☺️ I’ll post it on my Instagram when it’s done if you want to see. I’m littlewizardstudios on Instagram.

Thanks for all your love, Ian. I refer to you to my friends and colleagues as “my mentor”.At this point, they are on a first name basis with you! Haha. Hey, just a thought while I have it, any chance you could do a Patreon Q&A live stream. You are a wealth of knowledge and some questions are kind of hard to google. I’d love to see you revisit camera tracking too, I feel like there is some small step I am missing. I am sure you have plenty planned with 3.0 about to roll out, but thought I’d give some input! Seriously love you with all my heart, bud!!!

Oh man I'm definitely going to use these. Thanks Ian!
