Looking back at it, I think this is the most definitive "thicc Mona" drawing I've ever done lol panel 3 is probably the most accurate body type I intended for Mona to have - a bit of chubby tummy, but still extra curvy hips with thick thighs. Knowing me, though, I'm gonna end up going off-model in the very next comic anyway 💀
That shading thing I was stressing about in the last comic was because I accidentally double-filled the shading layer, which makes all the shadows thicker and more pixelated:
On that second shadow, you can see the extra blocky-ness, as well as how the thicker lines are making it "bleed" into the circle itself. I tried hitting Undo a bunch, but I guess I must've accidentally tapped the Fill tool twice and just didn't notice until it was too late! BLEH! Anyway, I tried slapping a "Blur" effect onto the shading layer to try and soften up the edges a bit - it doesn't look too noticeable, so I'm probably fussing over nothing lol
I actually soften up the shadows all the time when I make bonus panels, because I feel like it gives things a smoother "HD" kind of effect. Bonus panels are the primary time for me to experiment with new things in my art, to see if I can find any neat techniques that I can carry over to my comics. They aren't always super visible (things like making two shading layers, textures over the skin, blurring objects in the foreground, etc) but I feel like I learn a little bit more with every new thing I try :) For any aspiring artists out there, don't be afraid to try out new things! You might stumble upon a new way of doing things that works out even better! 💚
