Part 4 of project Marseille has landed and the E31 is finally running & driving!
A huge achievement to have it in this condition now after it was totally inoperable and neglected for 10 years.

The next episode on this project won't be out for a while and at the end of the video, I talk about what the plan is with this beauty. We are going big with this project and going with OEM+ theme and M70B54 build!
In short, we are going to hot rod the engine and up the power from 300 hp to around 375 hp, using M73 block, M70 heads, Schrick cams, custom exhaust and Wokke chips.

I'll go into more details in due time, but I've been thinking about this for a long time and it just makes sense to do it with this car. However, there is no way I can do such a big, long-term project in my current tiny garage, there's no space for anything and I'm going crazy as it is. I've been looking for a bigger space for a very long time to no avail, but I'm hopefully something will pop up eventually.

I've never done anything like this before where we are going to go deep into the engine build and I'm very excited about it. It should provide fun, informative and a bit different content. Let me know what you think too!

First Drive in 10 Years - Garden Find V12 BMW E31 850i Revival - Project Marseille: Part 4

In the previous episode, we got this legendary E31 running and in this one after long 10 years, it's back in drivable condition again! We sort out the sinking clutch pedal, brakes, cooling system and throttle bodies. Towards the end of the video, we also talk about the future plans for this project. Oooh la la,that sounds awesome Sreten.

Awesome!! Really hope you can find some bigger garage, it would be delightful to see all these beasts lined up, and it make your life so much easier. Since we're talking about this... if you had the chance and found a new place, would you try to go for a 2-post elevator, or would you still maintain the current 4-post one?

1. I'm excited for a new episode. Getting this lovely grand dame to move is a feat! 2. Regarding your moving plans: I'll keep my fingers crossed. Let's hope you get a place somewhere close so that you don't have to consider moving through the whole country!

Do you know how cruel it is to drop these during the workday in the US?! Now I have to wait 5 hours to watch it!!!

I envy you getting to work on these cars. Im currently working on my dads 2005 project cayenne turbo and its automotive hell. Especially because the previous "mechanic" used wrong sparkplugs, wrong coils that are all cracked, bent the camshaft-position finger, used a gallon of gasket maker on with the old valvecover gasket and broke off/damaged every vacuum line and clip in the engine bay. Not sure how the car even ran.

Wow! That sounds amazing! Good luck. 😍

Loved the video! So nice to see a beautiful car like this 850i running again. Not so sure about your plans with it, though. You say it's the best running E31 you've done so far, so why tinker with the engine? And that calypso red is just ace and very distinct. It would be great if it got its original shine back. You sure you don't wanna sell it? :-)

Calypso red is staying, I'm set on that now. :) The engine needs the timing chain because of the noise so it will be a great opportunity to fully refresh/upgrade it and make something special and a lot more powerful than regular E31 while keeping its stock look.

Thanks! I'd love two more 2-post lifts plus the current 4-post. That way I can work on other projects while waiting on parts. 2-post is better for mechanical work that I do.

Because of you channel I can't just pass by some old BMW parked in the city. Each time I stop, look precisely at it and try to see how many rust it has and what it's condition like... I hate(love) you channel!!! :)

Another great episode. I have a new 850i in purple silk, but the E31 is so much cooler. I also looked for a space to work on Oldtimers but Munich is also impossible 😳

Do you like the BMW greens like Oxfordgrün or Farngrün?

Thank you for the update Sreten! Anything you do will be spectacular! Can’t wait to see the results of your hard work.

I am not sure if it helps, but what i did was to put an Ad in the Local Paper, no not the one which is free (you can do that one too), but the one which is paid... and i got 4 Offers for a around 200-400sqm space. I do Camper Vans and Motorbikes... try it! 30 Euros well invested. Also look for space which is called "Lagerraum" on ebay-Kleinanzeigen. Or industrial space. There are lots of things which is hidden in the names. If you need help to formulate that correctly, just write me, no strings attached.

I cannot believe the steering wheel adjustment motors still work! Bonus!!

OK, if you want our opinions, I love the idea of the rebuild you discussed. I also think you should do the repaint job because that would be a very interesting process to observe. How a high-end paint job gets done on a vintage BMW. I'm really excited about this. I know it's expensive. I'd be willing to bump up to V12 M539 tier if that helps :). Hey, how does one bump up a tier anyway? Do I have to cancel or can I upgrade? Thanks Sreten.

Couldn't wait until tomorrow. Need to hear "Coming up" today

Where is Hans and Knock? Out and about, looking for a new place? ;)

I really hope you find a garage that’s suits your needs. I’m working on my E92 M3 that’s going through a bare metal restoration underneath on the rear and doing it in a garage that just fits the car and no more so I know how you feel. I’ve started this restoration because I started watching you on YouTube. I think anything you do will be great viewing and very informative as always. You do amazing work, keeping it OEM and saving these old classics. I for one will certainly be watching you as long as you upload videos.

Magnus von Brömsen

Great work as usual (my wish for a BMW V12 goes up every time watching your videos).

It's coming along nicely! I wish you good luck with the garage hunt, I know personally how hard it can be. Just keep looking and I'm sure something will turn up eventually (especially when you're starting to become "famous!). As for the color, I'd personally keep it in it's current red every day of the week. It really suits the car, and it goes perfectly with the light interior.

MichiJim

If you’re going to go fast might as well hang some Dinan bling on the power plant.

I just subscribed to your patreon because the content is mind blowing and so scrolling the feed i saw a m5 e39 in sweden post, what happened to it?

Anonymous

That is so sick along with the e21 project

No way ! This car looks beatiful for its age that would be my dream BMW at that time.Really excited for this one. :)

Did you see one of your gearbox support arms snapped in this video? Looks like it had been poorly repaired by the previous owner

m539restorations

So many people keep telling me that, I guess you don't remember it from part 1 as I covered it there.
