Hi, everyone. We have a very important announcement to make today. And I’d like to ask you to read carefully.

I’m very sorry to report that NullGhost will be taking a break from the Kemo Coliseum project indefinitely. Effective next month, April 2018, he will no longer be working on the project until further notice.

During the past two years, we have been supporting and working along NullGhost while he also has been dealing with his personal issues. The decision of bringing in more artists to help had been brought up in February 2017, but due to NullGhost’s reaction to the decision, the plan was postponed. Believing that supporters and fans want majority of arts in the game to be done by NullGhost, we decided to put our trust in him.

However, as more problems arose, it became apparent that this might not have been what’s best for the project and to a greater extent, for NullGhost himself. As he had missed multiple deadlines, we have come to a decision whereby we aren’t able to work with him anymore and that we should focus on what we should do moving forward.

With regards to NullGhost’s well-being and the forward direction of the project, we believe that a break is in the best interest of both parties. The past years have been really stressful, both for us and for him, and we hope that releasing him from the stress of Kemo Coliseum will help him gain the vitality he requires to handle his private matters.

For those who would like to support NullGhost, you can help him by making a donation through his Kofi account from the following link:

What does this mean for Kemo Coliseum?

Currently, the main contents in the game that have not been completely finished by NullGhost are as follows:

  • Lambert’s Visual Novel Sprites
  • Aquilo’s Visual Novel Sprites
  • Cronus’ Visual Novel Sprites
  • Volga’s Punishment Scene 1
  • Volga’s Punishment Scene 2

For the visual novel sprites, NullGhost has finished the sketches, as well as their color guides. These are enough for us to pass the tasks on to other artists to completely finish the sprite sets. Thus, what we would still acquire from NullGhost right now are the sketches of both punishment scenes of Volga. The deadline for both sketches was February 14th.

With this, the majority of the main contents in the game will still be in NullGhost’s style. We will continue working on the game, and any optional content, such as a CG during a romantic relationship route, will be done by other artists. As for Maximus and Cronus, while they are no longer participating in the tournament, we have planned to make scenes of sexual encounters between Volga and each of them. Although these erotic scenes are considered to be main contents, given the circumstances, we will have to pass these tasks on to other artists.

We hope that you understand our decision. It is not an easy decision to make, and we understand that this may impact our Patreon. However, we believe that it is better for all parties involved to go in this direction.

I'm sorry for NG to be let go indefinitely. I guess it is for the best if he's having personal troubles. I wish him luck and quick recovery.

Hoping for the best for NG and you guys! I have confidence that you'll make the right decisions for what's best for the game and, more importantly, each other personally.

Anonymous

NG will be missed, for sure. But I know you guys will do the best you could do. I hope NG gets through all the bad times soon.

Solitary Hyena

This is very unfortunate, but I suppose I saw this coming.

Anonymous

I'm just falling apart, and I'm afraid that happen to the game too

Furlock O'Donnell

It's terribly unfortunate, but sometimes life brings unexpected things. I hope NG will be alright, and I hope the project will continue to grow and expand. Thank you for letting us know about this.

SonicWolfe

I hope NG will come out of art block/whatever he is been through. That said I would really wanted NG finish all segments containing Volga, otherwise the game will look wired without consistency. Also, consider yourself lucky, because I heard another furry game (breeding furries and harvest their juice) was canceled because the main artist pulled the plug and prohibits his art continued to be used, the developer decided to cancel the game instead of redo all the sprits....

I know he was recently diagnosed with asperger's. I know that it's taken a huge emotional toll on him and that's why he's had to leave.

WakkaSeta

...Well darn. It seems I always try to support a project right before it starts dying.

Anonymous

I'm confident that you guys will find another artist with a similar style, ever should be fine :')

Enzo

It's really saddening. Novels and games are losing their trademark artist. It is unfortunate and I personally really liked his art, however sometimes things don't work out. Deadlines put limits and stress on people, especially when they have personal needs to tend to as well as communities and environment. I am sorry for his departing as well as the hit to some progression. I wish for both parties to rest and recovery well and I will be here to support for good.

CrescentXMoon

Very sad to see this happening to so many brilliant artists. caught in art block/depression.

一応確認なんですが、ここでは「brake」となってますが、彼自身はどうやら「end」と表明しているようです。これは…どちらがより正しい情報となるのでしょう?

kemocoliseum

こちらから伝えたのは、休んでください、ということです。nullghostが回復したあとにケモコロシアムに復帰するかどうかは、nullghost次第です。

I don't even mind the change in asset creators. I'm just worried this will derail the game into a permanent "hiatus". If it were possible, finding a way to insure us that this project won't fall apart due to this event would be greatly appreciated and may actually help keep support up.

kemocoliseum

In case of any misunderstanding, we would like to make it clear that we are not replacing all of NullGhost's arts in the game. As most of the sketches of the main art assets are finished, and we have coloring artists who can fully render them, we believe we can continue working on the project. - Punipen

...I just wish best to both NG and KemoColo Team. Hope progress won't slow down too much...

tofutiles

I wish Null the best.

Brett Smith

While sad to see a prominent artist go, there are plenty of other artists out there who can pick up the slack, and if that means altering the art style in various ways to ensure the project's completion, I doubt you will find much opposition to that. After all, there is more to Kemo Colloseum than the art. There's the story and gameplay as well. If art was the sole factor in this, there would be no game, but there is. You should definitely revisit those artists you wished to bring on earlier. Now that Null Ghost is no longer in the picture, there shouldn't be any reservations to you bringing on other talent. While that sounds kind of cold (it's not meant to be) there are practical issues to consider. I wish you well going forward and am still excited to see where this project goes! I also wish Null Ghost the best going forward in all aspects of his life. It is obvious there were situations beyond his control.

Brett Smith

It's not dying. There's just a change in artists. All that means is the art style might differ going forward.

Thy Carker

While everything can be quiet I am sure that the game project and NullGhost will be ok, I love all the game content <3

badaimrac00n

From the look of things, it looks like this split is as friendly as it can get. I appreciate you guys shouting out his ko-fi and wishing him the best as you are. Null, it sucks that you won't be a part of this anymore, but I follow you on Twitter anyway, so I know you'll continue to do great things.

There was a furry-novel-game which had cancelled just few years ago. You know what. Recently, I constantly worry about that Kemocolo will be the next one. I hope everything will work out, and play the complete version of the game soon. There were some problems occured in past few months, but for now, I believe the project team. Looking forward to hear a good news.

Wishing NullGhost and you guys the best. I'm grateful for the work he's put in so far and hope he can find some relief from all the stress he's facing. Though it's a shame we won't see much more of his art in the project, I'm still excited to see all the other artists shine in this game.

Andrew Whelan

It's a shame to see NullGhost departing. Making a video game is a lot of work! I hope you guys can recover with a good artist. I would love to see this game finished.

It is a shame that Null is going to leave the boat since he is one of the heads who brought me to his project. I will consider if I will take down my pledge because his artworks and his Volga was for me the main reason to step in into this project. I understand that the deadlines were overdue but on the other hand, I might see it a bit sceptical if the quality of artworks might vary in the future.

kemocoliseum

I understand how you feel. Personally, I think we are doing ok, funding wise. If making a donation to both us and Null-Ghost isn't possible, please help Null-Ghost first, as he needs that more than we do right now. - Punipen

kemocoliseum

Thank you so much. I love this game and that's why I've been sticking with it for this long as well. I wish he would be with us until the end, but I also don't want to see this destroys him. It really was a tough decision to make. - Punipen

kemocoliseum

Yes, we've seen other projects cancelled or dropped along the way, and thus we understand why many people are skeptical about this project or afraid that this project might fail. I can only hope that the result will speak for itself. Thank you for believing in us! - Punipen

kemocoliseum

Thank you so much for your kind words! Regarding bringing in artists, perhaps I didn't make it clear enough in the post. We never wanted to bring anyone in to replace him. By bringing in more artists, we want them to work as his assistants, helping him in other process such as cleaning up the outline and coloring. This would reduce his workload and make the game progress faster. The progress you've seen recently is the result of this plan finally being executed around December last year. It took time to get in touch with the artists and negotiating price and schedule, but we finally got them done around the end of January. Thus, we have to look for a new artist this time, as they will be the one who draw the sketch instead of Null-Ghost. We understand that this is not an easy task, but we'll do our best to find one who can continue his work. - Punipen

Rikika

With both Cronus and Maximus out of the tournament does that mean there also will be no romance route for them either? I really looked forward to the buff lion :/

kemocoliseum

Maximus is still available for you to romance with despite having no punishment scenes. - Punipen

Rikika

Wonderful, that was kinda ambiguous in the update. How bout the bunny, is he also available or am I walking into spoiler territory?

kemocoliseum

Yeah, that's a bit spoilery so I think shouldn't say anything on that part. Sorry! - Punipen

I have to say I'm frustrated by this news... I really love all the CG done by NullGhost and appreciate his work. I'm sorry to hear things were not going well during your cooperation. I hope that you guys are still on good terms and that NG can successfully handle his personal issues and come back some day! T T
