Hi, everyone! Since I've seen people asking about this in the comment section, I think it's better to answer what's our plan for future releases here.

After discussing with the team, we have come to a decision that we will release chapter 3, 4 and 5 at the same time. Therefore, it might take a while before the next build come out. We are currently working with a goal of releasing them around September or October this year.

The reason for this decision is mainly because of the amount of support work that comes with releasing a chapter. Based on chapter 2, we spent quite a lot of time on support after the chapter is released. This include reading and listening to people's feedbacks, bug fixes and adjusting the games.

These tasks, while important, slow us down from working on contents of future chapters. We are afraid that by releasing chapter 3, we might spend too much time on support, pushing the release of chapter 4 and 5 even further. Once again, Dudedle Studio is very small. The main three members right now are Yoshinoya, Kurono and I. Since I'm the only programmer and also the director of the project, spending time on building and uploading patches for the current release means I cannot spend much time on putting the contents of future chapters together.

Still, we also understand that some people might not be able to wait. And thus I'd like to hear your opinion on this. Even though we will officially release the game after all chapters are finished, it's possible for us to upload a playable build after we finish working on each chapter. However, we will not be able to provide as much support as we used to. Bugs and issues can still be reported, but we will not address them and follow up by a patch as quickly as last time.

These release will be for patrons only. The next public release will be after the whole Volga's arc is finished.

Please let us know what you think!

EDITED: Added a teasing image of Aquilo's punishment. You'll get to see it in the next report! :D

I think releasing progress versions of the game much is better, since it gives us more to look forward to and makes the “wait” for the official game feel less lengthy, other smaller studios follow this approach and they’re able to get much more user feedback this way. It also makes the waiting time between chapters feel shorter :)

tofutiles

I'm 100% in support of you releasing the builds with not much support.

Anonymous

Definitely release as you go. I'd love to see everything as it is finished.

Jake6665

I would say release as you go. That way you can work on the other chapters and as time passes we will fine any bugs or errors that are in the build so that you can fix them when your ready to provide support again.

i think it would mean a lot not to just me but to your other financial backers of the project to see each chapter as they soon as they become playable not only to possible help you guys and girls on the development team with feedback on your progress but to see the game come together piece by piece to form the masterpiece that you on development team envisioned plus it would also help kill time till full release

Rickalator98

I think it would be better to finish the game completely and then make changes if necessary afterwards. A full release date of September/October is not that far away

For me all small bug are ok...unless it can't play to the end at all.You needn't to fix them at first time, they can be left until you get ready to solve them.

Anonymous

i think an early release even if you guys cant provide a lot of support is better, so we can have an idea of whats to come, and it may also attract more patrons, knowing theres new stuff to play , i bet some people may had stopped to pledge cause they are tired of waiting, or is waiting the next build to pledge for the first time.

Kaotikus

Waiting to post anything until after chapter 5 is complete is a terrible idea. You will lose many backers if you do that. It would be much, much better to post chapters as they are completed.

Siryoshi

Could not agree more with the people who say post as you finish chapters.

I may be the only one but I'd say focus on finishing everything, I'd rather enjoy the full arc than stop and wait everytime haha. Do what's best for the game development, I can wait ~

Solitary Hyena

At this point, release as you go since 1) the game CG's are not available before thr chapter released and 2) The last release was such a long time ago, im up for anything. Ive dealt with bugs many times but got through them.

I will support you in everything you decide. But I am a thristy mofo. I want more sexy content. Please throw me a bone, anything, even CG!!!

Nickthulhu

I'm not going to stop backing if you wait. However, I would really like to see some more releases. Even if like you said there's no support.

Reaver

What about the full Mohtir punishment? XD

Reaver

Sooo want to see Mohtir's Punishment sex scene!! ^.=.^

I'll continue to support you regardless, but I feel that releasing chapters as they are finished is the better option. That way we have content to keep us occupied as you work on the next part of the game, whether it is bug-fixing, or making a new chapter. Obviously major bugs that prevent gameplay, progress, or enjoyability will need to be dealt with first, but as long as there are no bugs like that, I think people would be fine waiting for a larger, more focused bug-fixing phase, as long as they have chapters to play.

There are benefits to both approaches here. On the one hand, the smaller releases as they become available give the supporters something concrete for their support and gives a chance for itemized feedback, as well as reporting bugs as they find them even if you can't address them right away. I suspect that it's easier on you guys too, as it lessens the amount of code you'd have to search through to correct the issue. On the other, with the large release of three chapters you have the benefit of time to polish everything and test it extensively to make sure it's everything you want it to be, plus it's a lot more content for us to go through, even if it means a longer wait. It also has the advantage of any bugs that occur can be addressed right away, and it adds the benefit of say a bug in chapter 3 that is being caused by something incorporated into the game for chapter 5 to be spotted more easily. Chances are a bug like that wouldn't manifest itself until the later release anyway and might be harder to find the cause if you released them separately. Personally I am willing to wait till September/October for the full release, and I'd be willing to play the individual chapters if they were to be released separately, so whichever you decide I'll support that decision. I've been a supporter of this project for years and intend to see this through to the end no matter what, and I know that in the end it will be worth the wait. Good luck with everything guys, and keep up the fantastic work.

More to look forward to :3

My feeling is that making less complete but more frequent releases is the better approach here; maintaining the momentum of your patrons' and fans' support is important. Seeing how the game changes and evolves with each release is also fascinating, and I count myself amongst those who enjoy a good bug-hunt.

Totally agrre with you. Patreons are like beta testers^^ it could be good a test of small updates during the developing period

ZR

While I'd understand a delayed release, I worry others may not be so patient. If you do share builds and stress that it's pre-release without significant support that seems like a middle ground, but I understand whatever you decide. I'm not sure how complicated a bug tracker is either? I suppose with multiple languages that may get a bit messy and it's a lot to keep track of, especially if builds get a lot of attention.

Patrick Neil

I can see the logic to both approaches, depending on how you've structured the remaining work. If you'll be finishing the chapters in order anyway (i.e., completely finishing Ch. 3, then moving on to Ch. 4, ...), then maybe releasing "As Is" builds for us makes sense, with the understanding that we may file bug reports but that significant updates/bug fixes won't happen until after Ch. 5 is complete. This way, we can be play testing while you're working on Ch. 4 (and, to be fair, I'd rather have Ch. 3 to play sooner). Personally, I'll continue my support through the fall, but if you release incremental builds you reduce the risk of losing supporters tired of waiting for a new build. However, if you're working on all the chapters in parallel (e.g., doing dungeon design for all three chapters at once), then maybe it makes more sense to complete everything and release it all at once if that is the most efficient way to complete the rest of Volga's story. Ultimately, you have to decide which tactic is most efficient for you and your small team. Best of luck, and keep up the good work. :)

Daftnewt

I would much prefer more frequent releases. Looking forward to the next release is what keeps up my interest... Even if the whole game takes longer, that's what makes me happy - it's fun and exciting to get a new chapter, and then wonder what the next one will bring! But whatever you decide, thank you very much for your hard work and this fun game!

I like the idea of continuing releases for each chapter, but reducing focus on support. Just make it clear to people that it is a rough, unfinished product which will be polished later on.

Anonymous

I will have to agree on the more frequent releases with less support! Not only does it give patrons something to look forward to more frequently but also a lot more eyes to spot bugs and such. Even if they aren't corrected until the next chapter release, it's fine! Keeping a log of everyone's findings is great for testing and squashing bugs that may affect future chapters! The only problem that may arise from this is that save files are more valuable now with the longer progression of the game. Meaning, if save files somehow become incompatible between releases, it would be a little tiring to go through the game over and over again. But, that's only if that happens! In short, yes to more frequent releases with less support!

Gystes

So the decision is basically; wait for the release 7 months from now and hope there isn't a delay or release builds that won't be supported for a decent amount of time all the while having people complain that the game isn't fixed yet.... How about splitting the difference? You release alpha-chapter 3 to "wet the beak" and release 4 & 5 together.

Leo Once3333

I think the key question is if Chapter 3, 4 and 5 will be completed in order. If you find that it's quicker or easier to work on chapters in parallel, you shouldn't avoid that solely to release chapters. But if they are being finished in order, I wouldn't mind if the chapters are released even with no support at all. I don't really see any disadvantage to doing it that way, and as long as you are clear that these are alpha releases without bug support, everyone should be okay with it.

For me the question here is a little different. If you have already planned ahead for all future mechanics and think each stage is unlikely to change, then there's little harm in releasing actual content in stages; either way you will have the same bug squishing job and as Nekura and AviatorFox commented patrons make good beta testers. If, on the other hand, there are any significant design decisions that are not firm, planning for later stages that is incomplete, such that later stages might have you needing to scrap earlier mechanics, then working chapter by chapter might entail significant rewriting. As long as you have planned the entire game and are confident of that, incremental updates seem like they would help you more than they hurt as they give you a chance to polish focused sections rather than have to engage in open-world bug-hunts.

I would prefer to see each chapter released with not as much support. I prefer to see updates on what people I'm supporting are working on over long periods of nothing. Even if that means its longer before the final release date.
