Hello! (❀´ ˘ `❀)

In my previous post I shared some quick Raven paintings I did. I really enjoyed letting loose, trying new oil paint brushes, and drawing my all time fav girl Raven. Sorry I didn’t record the sketch process, the sketches are kinda old and I wasn’t in the habit of recording my process at the time. Regardless, I hope the video is useful! ^^

Specs:

✩ Program: Clip Studio Paint

✩ Tools: Wacom Intuous Medium

Some notes on what I was doing:

  • my general process involves painting directly over sketches. I like to sculpt out forms with rough shapes and gradually refine with detail.
  • 1:09 - what I meant in my previous post about choosing where to direct focus. the parts of her hair that are farther from the viewer have less detail and saturation so the eye gets drawn to the hair toward the front that frames the face. I want the focus to be around the face and eyes so I want to concentrate detail there.
  • 2:10 - same principle from above applies to the hood. the details are minimal so focus is drawn to the eyes and face, which are more tightly rendered. color variation and texture is done using oil paint brushes so that the appearance of detail is achieved without having to actually render everything. a lot of effective painting and drawing is about the implication of detail rather than the actual presence of detail, a principle that takes a long time to develop an eye for! I have a long way to go. xD
