We slide on back to Utah for our third episode on the alleged ritual abuse case — and for our second episode on a fake Native American. Close your eyes and drink the ayahuasca, we’re going to pretend church.

James Mooney's Ghost Dance recordings (1894)

NOTE: Since this episode was recorded it has emerged that David Leavitt attempted to broker a deal between former Ukrainian president Victor Yuschenko and the Northern Cheyenne to export buffalo to Western Ukraine in exchange for custody of his step grand foster niece. He also lost his June 28th re-election bid.

man i stopped having to interact with "weed and pyschedelics really like, open your eyes, man" people when i was like 22 and i forgot how fucking annoying they are (actually i had forgotten that people even do that about weed) none of those activities are more meaningful or inherently positive than getting drunk with your friends and blasting some cigs

Mfs will have no problem with statements like religion is the opiate of the masses but then throw a fit in the comments when you lightly point out that maybe weed and actual opiates being sold by capitalist markets are also not great ideas.

I enjoy weed a lot, I have no idea what people are freaking out about. Jesus Christ get a grip, people. Maybe its just that its legal here in Canada so people don't feel the need to be that defensive about it anymore but it amazes how people still freak out about the idea that doing too many drugs could be bad for you. And so what if your podcaster doesn't like your life choice? They make fun of electroclash all the time and you don't hear me whining about it despite being the electroclash king of northern Manitoba

God knows no one has ever been sexually abused under the influence of alcohol. Also cannabis cured my anorexia nervosa, all alcohol ever did for anyone's psyche was make them depressed. And cigarettes do the same but they also make you stink and fuck up your grill.

Grow your own? I mean black market weed full of heavy metals from fertilizer and covered in pesticide isn't great either. Neither is criminalization and resulting mass incarceration.

Found an unmarked cd on the side of the road last year. Turns out was a cherry poppin daddies album, and now the only cd i own. Love blasting zoot suit riot with the windows rolled down as my tires screech around every turn. Taking every intersection just before the light turns green. This cd has completely changed my personality and outlook on life.

I just don't understand why people think it's a great idea to waste money on stuff that might be really damaging to your health just to experience an altered state of mind. You don't need alcohol to lose all your inhibitions and do stupid shit, for instance. You could just do that on your own. And as far as I've ever been able to determine, there's no difference between "the effects of pot" and "being really tired." So much of drug culture is just psychosomatic, honestly. It reminds me of the RWN episode where they talked about the history of combat drugs, and the guest told a story about the time he hung out with an indigenous jungle tribe whose hunters did a collective ritual with one of those weird drugs you can only process by consuming a plant and then pissing it out and then making tea out of the piss or something. The shaman would guide them all through like communing with their ancestors and stuff, and then the next day when they went hunting they had like super-awareness of their surroundings. Makes you wonder to what extent the drug is necessary. Like if you gave them a placebo for the ritual, would it make a difference? Who knows. Obviously drugs don't do nothing, but their effects are heavily mediated by your own expectations and sociological context... You might as well save your money and figure out how to enter altered states of consciousness in other ways, assuming all you want is a good time.

People spend more time listening to podcasts than they do talking to anyone. So the opinions of podcasters feel like they matter a great deal, even though, rationally, you know they don't.

cently participated in an ayahuasca ceremony in Mexico. It was an amazing experience. But it was super controlled and there was a lot of prep work going into it (strict diet before hand, interacting with the guy leading the ceremony beforehand to prepare us for the ceremony, didn’t interact it with other substances etc). There is definitely a relationship to the high/trip and death. I felt like I was having a conversation with myself but a higher version of myself where like I could not lie to myself. But during like “the conversation with myself”, I had the realization that there was aspects Of my life I was reviewing and I was having the conversation I would have when I die but I was able to do it now to make the changes I need in my life. I know this is not making a lot of sense but I don’t know how to explain it. It was life changing in a positive way BUT I don’t recommend this something for everyone. You have to be very very very in touch with yourself and I mean that in the you understand your ego, it’s purpose, and in a way need to be very humble going into it. The people in my group that came off very confident in themselves and kind of narcissistic had a terrible time. Those of us who went in thinking “tell me what I need to do to improve myself” and all that had a better experience. There is a dark point in the trip. But it’s more to show you the things you need to work on.

Abortion is a class issue. It disproportionately affects working class women and their families.

Say what you want about psychedelics but it snapped me out of Mormonism 😂

It is surreal seeing an article today in the Guardian about something that I listened to over three episodes and I’m still not sure I fully understand.
