Greeting Patrons,

I'm back from my quick trip to the North Carolina mountains. I spent most of the time sitting on the porch watching birds and identifying them with my new favorite app, Merlin. I also dragged the family with me for a tour of the Moog synthesizer factory in Asheville, which even the teenagers enjoyed.

But honestly, I couldn't wait to get back to the studio. I always worry about stepping away, even for a week, but it really is worth it.

This week's ambience is a sci-fi/deep space track. As the title suggests, it's a ship without engine power (but, see below), drifting through the expanse. The story could be many things: engine failure, obviously - sabotage? But perhaps running silent and dark as a means to evade pursuit.

Musically there's a bit of a build, but it isn't too much. Just enough to keep the flow. It's a hybrid score with a classic ensemble of synths and orchestral strings and brass. Nothing about the music is too oversly scifi so I think it would work in certain magical/fantasy settings as well. Might make a good traveling piece or something expository.

The ambience is some classic space drones and engine sounds  - yes, engine sounds in an adrift starship - I can't very well have an ambience track full of silence! Maybe those noises aren't powering the drives...or something.

As this track is in Patron-only sneak-peek mode I've included the mixed-track (live on the site next week), as well as ambience-only and music-only versions. I went back and forth with the (very Trek) 'sonar' sound and found that I missed it when it wasn't there, but some of you may disagree, so I've included a mixed-version and an ambience-only version of the track without it. I hope you find these useful.

Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.

Best,

Tim

Oh man, this was just a fantastic set!

I use Foundry and this is going to make for a great sound item on the tabletop. The players are flying blind through a nebulous debris field and these pings will be the clues they need to find their targets.
