Greetings Patrons,
I started working on this track last week after seeing a clip of an old Scooby-Doo cartoon from the 1960s. That show, as comically formulaic as it was, did a pretty great job of distilling a sense of pulp adventure into a few short minutes. And the music, if you could hear it through all the classic slide-whistle and bongos sound effects, was also quite good.
I also really enjoyed Spielberg's uncanny-valley fest, TinTin for the same reason. Of course, that was John Williams doing the score, so I had to borrow an idea or two!
For the music I wanted something of the period, something to go along with a classic tip-toe in the darkness kind of vibe. Bass clarinets, tremolo strings, celeste - all the classics make an appearance here.
I picture this as scene from a period pulp novel but I think it can be repurposed into a lot of different genres and settings. The point is that it's sneaky, but never really gets truly ominous.
The track on the website contains the classic sound effects of footsteps, doors, drafts, and the occasional cat. I've included a music-only version and ambience only version (very quiet) here for patrons.
