Chapter 7 – The New Normal Life 1

“I am glad to hear that you are enjoying your fascinating experience right away. In this parallel world, the numbers of men and women are extremely skewed from your original world, and the values of beauty and ugliness are reversed, so just being a man here makes you somewhat popular. Still, the fact that you made friends with Carla so quickly is definitely a reflection of your good character. I knew I wasn’t wrong this time!”

“…?”

Wait a minute.

What did she just say?

“A parallel world?”

“Yes, that’s right!”

“Which one?”

“This world, obviously?”

By reflex, Oriondiehl and I looked at each other.

And then – without either of us saying anything – I shouted.

“What? This is a parallel world!?”

“Wait, you haven’t figured that out yet?”

“So, to sum up, to repay your debt to me, you transferred me to a parallel world where I can become irresistible to the opposite sex?”

“Yes, that’s right!”

Oriondiehl nodded with a broad smile on her face.

“The last time I did this, my previous savior didn’t seem to like my charm skill enchantment, so I decided to change the environment this time! How is it? Do you like it?”

“Y-yeah, I think it’s better this way.”

“I see! I’m glad you like it, my dear savior!”

No, at the moment, I feel more disempowered than pleased.

But I’m glad that I won’t end up destroying the country, yeah. Seriously.

“So let me get this straight. This is a world where the values of beauty and ugliness are reversed, and the number of men is extremely low. And in this world, I am considered a good-looking guy?”

“Oh, no, not exactly. Mr. Savior still has a plain face, so even with the ethics reversed, you are still classified as one of the ‘lesser types’, those who are less conspicuous and less presentable than normal.”

“Then it’s no different from the original world. In fact, it’s a bit worse!”

“Well, let’s just say that an average score is still an average score, even if you reverse it.”

“Okay, that’s enough. You don’t need to say anything else!”

Ah, but perhaps that was a good thing.

In a world where men are few and far between, a man with a good face is going to have a lot of trouble.

Hmm? Oh, wait a minute.

“So that means the Rosenkreuzer girls are…”

“Yes. By the standards of this world, they’re in the category of incredibly ugly people.”

“Seriously?”

So that’s why when the girls entered the Adventurers’ Guild, the reaction around them was like that.

If that’s the case, then the reason why Carla invited me yesterday is…

No wonder she was so aggressive.

Well, in my worldview, if I were in the opposite situation, it would be like an unattractive male adventurer asking a female adventuring guild member out in a bar, and she happily accepts his offer.

If I were in the same position, I would jump at it. No doubt about it.

……

“Oriondiehl, can you undo the magic you cast on me?”

When I asked, Oriondiehl looked surprised.

Then she looked at my face and smiled softly as if she had reached a point of understanding.

“I knew you were kind, my savior… You sympathize with the fact that everyone in this Rosenkreuzer is now considered ugly because of your wish, don’t you?”

“Ah, y-yes.”

“But you misunderstand me a little. It is not that the common sense and values of this world have been reversed. Only your soul has been exchanged with the ‘you’ of this parallel world.”

“T-Then…”

“Yes, I can return you to your original world. But that doesn’t change the way the ‘you’ of this parallel world will treat them, or anyone else for that matter. After all, that is the ‘common sense’ of this world.”

“Is that so?”

I see.

In other words, whether or not the magic that was cast on me is restored, it won’t change the way the girls are treated in this world.

Hmm? Wait. Did she just say that “my soul” has been swapped with the “me” of this world?

“Hey, what do you mean by switched places? Does it mean that the ‘me’ in this world has gone to my original world?”

“Yes, and he seems to be enjoying it!”

“Huh?”

“The ‘you’ in this parallel world – he also went to a bar last night and had a good time with a woman, it seems. In this town, he was so good-looking that he could hardly walk down the street during the day, but not in your world. It was as if he had finally tasted freedom, that fellow. In fact, yesterday, he happened to meet someone in the street, and after complimenting her on her looks, they went straight to her house for some hot action!”

I see.

As one would expect of me in a parallel world.

Of course, he would do all the same things I do.

“By the way, even if I return you to your original world, it does not mean that Carla’s memory will be erased. This means that if the ‘you’ of this world were to return to his original world, he would definitely show disgust at Clara’s appearance, and she would be very sad. After all, she thought she had finally found someone who would accept her as she was. But you’re not going to do that, are you, Mr. Savior? After all, I believe you are not that kind of person!”

Oriondiehl, perhaps seeing that I have an “I still can’t accept it” kind of face, tells me in a particularly cheerful voice.

“Please don’t make that face, my savior! I just want you to be happy! Cheer up!”

She said this with a wide, innocent grin as if she still hadn’t realized what she had done.

…Ah. I read a book once that said there’s nothing scarier than pure good intentions, and this has got to be it.

Well, at least I got the better end of the deal, as I got a much better “reward” than the former “savior” Oriondiehl told me about earlier.

Indeed, as long as I make some effort, no matter how little, it is possible for me to live a better life in this world.

But in the end, this situation ―― is it really okay for me to accept it?

“Hm?”

While I was hesitating, I suddenly noticed that Oriondiehl’s body was about to disappear.

“Oriondiehl! Your body is disappearing! Are you all right?”

“Am I all right? The magic seems to be losing its effect. It takes a lot of power to cross between parallel worlds, after all.”

“So you’re going back to the other world?”

“Yes, unfortunately. I am a little worried about my savior this time, so I came to this world. I can’t use this magic very much. So I’m afraid I won’t be able to see my savior for a while.”

“I-Is that so?”

“..why do you look a bit happy?”

“No, it’s probably just your imagination. If you’ve lost so much power, you’d better get back to the world as soon as possible. Come on, no dilly-dallying.”

Please go. I don’t want another ticking time bomb accompanying me on this journey.

“Mumumu… I’m a little worried, but I understand. Well then, my savior, please enjoy this world to your heart’s content!”

Oriondiehl seemed a little displeased, but still gave me a beaming smile at the end and waved goodbye.

…Still, I never thought I’d hear such an important story in the men’s toilet of the Adventurers’ Guild.
