Steven Universe was one of the biggest animated shows of the 2010s, but when it comes to the movie, can someone who has never seen the show like it as much as fans do? In this review, I’m about to find out, since I do consider myself a Steven Universe newcomer and will be using the movie as a gateway to the universe of crystal gems.

I'll be honest, like you Mat, I haven’t watched that much of Steven Universe, while I definitely won’t deny the impact it made on our culture and became one of the biggest animated series of the 2010 decade. As for the movie even as someone who hasn’t seen much of the show, I still very much like it and even though I feel like fans will absolutely love it more newcomers can enjoy it as well. I do think the story is solid, even though there are some elements you won’t understand if you haven’t seen the show, the animation is very well done and stays true to the series, the characters are really well done and have solid development, and the songs are fantastic and definitely the standout moment of the movie. So overall I think this is a great that not only works well as a Steven Universe movie and fans will absolutely love it but newcomers will enjoy it as well, also on a side note, I really like that jab you did at Lily Orchard considering her infamous hatred for the series. I’m honestly not sure what the next classic review is going to be but it should be interesting.

Does anyone know Animat’s Next Classic Review?

I too have never seen Steven Universe before either. I understand that it one of the biggest animated series to ever come out on Cartoon Network and how much impact it had play over the years to many fans. I don’t know if I’m interested in watching this movie since you said that newcomers can get into it without much bigger context no problem but this is something I’ll have to think about. I’ll be curious to see what the sequel is for next month though.

Can you do a review on the Teacher’s Pet 2004 movie?

Joshua Copelan

I am trying to guess from the music and hearing from what Mat said. I did hear chanting from the music and it is reminding me of a very popular anime film Ghost in the Shell. So I am going to guess that it is the sequel Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence

I saw a couple of episodes of Steven Universe, and I thought it was good. I am glad that it did get a movie and how the fandom is still going strong. As for the next classic review (which I gave a reply under Daniel Vasquez), I am going to guess it is Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence. I know it is a bold claim but the music from the background reminds me of Ghost in the Shell's opening and I know that it is a franchise that goes very philosophical where it can go over my head as well. But not enough where I don't get it and it makes sense.

Loved this review, and loved the jab at Lily! Shame about Pink/Rose being a terrible gem, though. How did her son turn out so well?
